Nah. Vanity project, role in community stuff, box ticking, PR - yep, fine. Commercial opportunity - nah. If it broke even you're winning, that'll be about it.

This. I am almost rabid in my ambivalence. Either way, I don't care.

We're not really going to sign "great strikers" ever, January or July. They might become great while they are with us (Like Lambert - although in fairness he was a great striker at the level we were at, he says arguing with his own point, but we were the big dogs then, we're not now). But J-Rod, Mane, Pelle, Mayuka, Osvaldo, Tanadari Lee - all gambles to an extent. As will the next one be. The strikers we sign will only prove themselves to be great once we have them. It's not looking likely Ronald is going for a striker this month but he's full of surprises. If anyone can surprise us, Ronald can.

Sums it up nicely for me. Good luck to him.

Wah wah wah stop bullying me.

I am guessing if the journalist had written "just like Manchester City and Chelsea, Southampton are just another club trying to infiltrate the Champions League through the financial power of a billionaire owner" Les would have been absolutely fine with it.

Zing!

They don't realise that if they did, they might more going their way. There is a reason why pensions etc get protected.

Couldn't get past two and a half minutes without feeling nauseous. Off. I'll assume it all ends happily ever after, right?
-
I didn't ask for an explanation.

When have we, or any club that would qualify as "the likes of Southampton", qualified for the Champions League in the last 20 years? The Mail were supporting us in that sentence anyway by setting up, correctly, the context we work in.
-
Well at least you've finally realised that Champions League finishes require a decent level of form. Well done, you've given Saints 2 points per game instead of the relegation form that you said was "the level required" from your previous "analysis". Arsenal dropping only 8 points for the rest of the season on 2.5 points per game is pretty bold and proves you shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a list of upcoming fixtures. And if this isn't a prediction, what is it? You've taken the time to list out points per game for nearly 100 individual football matches but not to the extent that you think any of them will happen? If you simply think Arsenal are going to pip us to fourth you could have said that in one line. Or are you going to say you don't think that is going to happen either?
-
By "notable" I'll assume you mean "as expected".
-
You seem to be unable to accept the player involved having more than a weeny bit of knowledge of both of them.
-
Fair enough. Don't go commenting on transfer fees ever again, then.
-
Well, you won't ever know the details of either.
-
If we accept (as you do, as you don't even accept the players involved know) that no one outside of the club finance officer is ever going to know those details ever, shall we just use headline figures as a reasonable guide?
-
But the discussion is about the same man (Jacks Dad) comparing two headline numbers he would have from exactly the same source (his son). All in all exactly the same set of conditions to make a comparison. So what's your point?
-
Didn't this discussion start from a tweet from his Dad with the headline numbers?
-
Far too many middle men/brokers etc for Jack not to know. Let's not be silly.
-
Be fair. For years before he joined he was known in the Swiss banking community as "The Italian Leroy Rosenior", so encyclopaedic was his knowledge of the English lower divisions. And so it proved. He was superb in the lower divisions for us.

On a par with asking a supervisor in the Disney Store to describe the first hour of the new Star Wars film.

They were good. Seemed like a lot of faff for that Guardian journo to schlep to Southampton for a five minute interview. I wonder if there is a longer form/written up version coming, but it looks like he does a lot of five minute interviews with 90s footballers.

I am against the reformation of the women's team and will protest about it by buying a ticket for one of their matches at the earliest possible opportunity.
-
I have absolutely no doubt you are utterly incapable of doing that.
