  1. It's almost like buying Gaston Ramirez was, say, the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, whereas buying a centre back and a left back was, say, getting into the League 1 play offs. Sometimes people just don't agree on priorities.
  2. Sounds about right to me.
  3. I think he is pumping himself up a little. I doubt he gets final say on all first team transfers. You can be "head of recruitment" in a business without being the person who employs everyone. On first team players there is clearly a committee thing going on but Adkins has a say no doubt.

Clearly not a rant was it. File it under whimsical quip. Toyed with putting something about finally signing Skacel but decided it was far too funny.

By then we'd be celebrating 98 years in our 50,000 seat stadium. Having sold it out four times in that time.
  6. Does winning the Champions League not count as "real footy"?
  7. When was this?
  8. Hillsborough is the same as VE day now? Jees.
  9. No he isn't. Cortese talked about expecting to be champions last year, and not in April or May but way back about this time last year. And the schedule thing doesn't really make sense anyway. If we were still in the Championship, and we go promoted in 2013 instead, do you really think that team would be any better prepared for the Premier League than the team we have now? Simply, no. I remember making this point this time last year too, when people on here used to go on about "we don't want to get promoted too soon". Any team that gets promoted after a long time out (ie not the likes of WHU) are quite simply not going to have a team "ready" for the Premier League. You've got to learn and build on the job, and that's what Nigel and the players need to do. You don't prepare for the Premier League by being in the championship.
  10. Just thinking we contrast with Blackpool in that they didn't really pay Prem wages in the Prem and spent their Prem money on infrastructure. And they are smaller and carry less expectation than us. I agree with your point but I can't see it. Adkins won't survive relegation IMO.
  11. Keep trying. One day you might come up with something that is remotely amusing.
  12. Personally would let Adkins take us down and be given the opportunity to take us back up. But given the resources he's been given and what I think Cortese is expecting, he's going to have to start winning, at very least four points from next three games. Minimum or I think he's gone.
  13. Dear me. We're having this thread are we? No short memories. No one has forgotten three years ago. It was three years ago. Seriously, if you don't want discussion of our current situation, this forum probably not for you. Give it a rest.
  14. This. No surprise the old "moaning on a messageboard stops the team winning you know" routine is being wheeled out. Just another season on this forum.
  15. They'll be back. But Southampton will no longer be the megaclub of the south of britain on the march to a fifty thousand seater stadium and european domination. Oh no. Instead we'll be plucky tiny underdogs who nearly went bust and we were bottom of league one not long ago and I can't believe people are so impatient and unrealistic etc.
  16. What about David Moyes? He's been manager for, like, ages.
  17. Thanks. Wheeling out the tired old Fergie-nearly-sacked-you-know chestnut really added to the debate, so well done. Anyone want to mention how Lawrie's first season went? I've forgotten.
  18. We should have never sacked Stuart Gray. Should have had at least three seasons.
  19. This entire post is unspeakable garbage. Just nonsense from start to finish.
  20. I think this is not completely impossible. Would be a good PR move by NC.
  21. Benitez is not Pep. He could come to us, yes. Like Sven going to Leicester. Still at the unlikely end of the scale though
  22. Simply, no he isn't. Unless you happen to be two years old.
  23. Q Mental. Proper mental. Signing a player that no other club seriously wanted for £12m is a million miles from Saints appointing world football's hottest manager. You're in fairyland, as usual.
  24. Naah. Doesn't and won't work like that. If Cortese sacks Adkins, replaces badly and we go down, maybe NC would deserve to be fired. Maybe. But at this point in the season, Cortese sacking NA (if he does) is just Nicola doing his job.
  25. I said nothing of the sort. I did say he knows more about him than you do, and he does. And those quotes are very similar to the stuff Vickery was saying anyway. If you can't handle even the slightest suggestion from one journalist that Gaston Ramires may not be the world's most perfect footballer then that's your problem. Stick to the official site mate. Everything is perfect there. You don't get the real world ruining it.
