  1. It's Friday, surely something will happen today!
  2. I for one would be in full support of Keegan's appointment. After years of apathy and disillusionment from many supporters, he would certainly generate a buzz around the place and get people fully behind the club again. I agree he may not be the strongest tactician in the world, but we could do a lot worse. He would certainly be someone the fans could rally around. If we don't go for an up and coming younger manager like Tisdale, then I would much prefer Keegan over someone like Dowie, whose name has been mentioned elsewhere. Keegan would definitely be beneficial to us in terms of attracting players to the club, League 1 is hardly a big draw.
  3. Alex Ferguson?
  4. £10 on the nose at 11's. Thank you very much!
  5. Good post. Nice to see a bit of realism over who we may keep and lose. I really hope we can keep DMG, but clubs may come calling. I'd worry that Forecast may not be up to becoming the number 1, but I can't see us spending any money on bringing in an established keeper. I feel Paterson could do well next year, he's shown flashes of quality in his few limited appearances this season. That's a very, very lightweight forward line though, I would hope we could bring someone in with a bit of muscle up front. Possibly a big centre back as well. To be honest, I hope that we could get a decent loan in from somewhere as well. There must be some prem clubs willing to loan out some youngsters. For example, I think Leicester has Liverpool's reserve team captain for the season, centre back?
  6. I'm not an overly heavy better, I dabble on the horses and the footy sometimes, but I stick the old adage and 'only bet what I can afford to lose' Best - Won £200 from a £5 placepot at Newbury a few months ago, was pretty happy with that. Worst - got stung badly on the Euro's this year. Just seemed to back the wrong team in every match I bet on. Bet quite heavily on Croatia to do a severely weakened Turkey outright in the knockout stages, that last kick of the game equaliser really hurt.
  7. It's never busy in the public sector! Pub for Wolves game Friday?
  8. That sounds good to me. With Smith, Holmes, Paterson, Forecast and Liptak on the bench
  9. Ramon Vega? He tried to buy Pompey a few months ago, but got laughed out of town as his bid was completely unrealistic
  10. Similarly, why did we sign Euell, Davies, Saga and John at the beginning of last season if we couldn't really afford their wages?
  11. I'd be surprised if we owed anywhere near that. Nearly half a million on a 17 yr old kid from Notts County? I don't know if he had even made a single appearance for their first team. Maybe £200k, but I find it unlikely Rupes would have agreed on any more than that.
  12. Good move by the club. Barring an injury to KD, he won't play again this season. If you can get his wages off the books by loaning him out, it's a good move. Chuck in the recall clause and I cannot see a problem with this at all. To be fair to Forecast, I think he was signed with the intention that we were going to sell KD. He then would have been in a straight fight with Bart for the no. 1 spot. Obviously KD stayed and it now looks a bit of a strange one. Mind you, with KD out of contract at the end of the season and unlikely to be short of suitors, he could well be our no. 1 next year. I've never seen him play, so can't pass judgement on his ability.
  13. NAP is 'Noted At Price' I think? Had Tricky Trickster and Ninetieth Minute come in for yesterday (at 20's and 16's) so I have a bit to play with today! Also had Carruthers, wasn't happy when he went straight through that fence at the end. I've gone for: 1.30 Northern Alliance 2.05 Don't push it 4.00 Perce Rock 4.40 shouldhavehadthat All to win. Going to the course tmw for Gold cup day, can't wait now.
  14. AP get's me my first winner of the day! Got Ashkazar e/w in the big one at 22's, fingers crossed.
  15. It's not that simple though. I think Rasiak is still under contract for next season, so there may be the potential to get a fee for him if we sell him. Also Euell doesn't have long left in him, he'll be 33 next season and as players get older they tend to pick up more niggly injuries. I certainly wouldn't keep Euell on his existing contract, not on the basis of three good games. If he was happy to accept reduced terms with bonuses for playing and goals, then by all means If we stay up, we should use all our available funds to try and sign Saeijs permanently and fund the wages of saga and KD.
  16. I think Poortvliet's insistence on playing the dutch formation, regardless of form or fitness of our players, was a massive mistake. The refusal to play 2 up front, despite our lack of goals at home, just looks stubborn now. Also the decision to promote youth players was over done. You cannot have the entire team made up of youth players, you need a bit of nous on the pitch. However I do think we have some talented youngsters at the club, over the last 2 games our starting midfield has been made up entirely of home-grown players. Our big mistake was in thinking that you can get away with no experience at all and trying to blood all of the youngster at the same time. As good as they may become in the future, the likes of Lancashire and Paterson are simply not ready to be playing regularly in the CCC yet, neither is Gobern. I just fear that this realisation may have come too late to save us.
  17. top stuff for a friday afternoon!
  18. It's frustrating that most threads seem to degenerate into rants against the board and 'we should have kept Pearson' etc.. I accept that this is largely due to the situation the club is currently in, but it's a shame. The personal attacks have also become a bit more prevalent. I find myself wondering whether to post something, knowing that if you express a moderately different view from the masses, you get labelled a 'Lowe Luvvie' or a 'PR plant' for either side of the debate. I'm all for opposing views (part of what makes supporting a team interesting) but it has gotten a bit out of hand so far, the loss of posters like Navyred is a shame, it was great to have his take on the youth players. I think that's an example of the in-fighting actually hurting the forum as a whole. I'll definitely still visit the forum (largely because it makes for a good distraction from work for a bit!) but it would be nice if we could get back to talking about the football!
  19. I think a lot of these players will still make the game, it's a bit of smoke and mirrors from Jones. If Johnson is out, that would be a massive boost for us, he is one of the best centre-backs in the league.

    Cardiff

I live in Cardiff and people up here are talking about Cardiff getting automatic promotion this season! They are very solid and now have Chopra doing well for them and Quincy on loan. I wouldn't be surprised if we lost this game despite playing well and I hope people don't take it as a sign that things aren't working if we do lose. I'd be very happy if we could take a draw from this one.
  21. I have a feeling it was only available for one week and then it was taken down.
  22. Obviously Wotte never will, but could you start McClaggon up front? Is he ready for a start (not starting regularly, a single start) up top, or is he still only suited to cameos on the wing? I have defended DMG in the past and still think he could be a decent player if he plays in a team playing 4-4-2, alongside a target man, but if nothing else, he's badly out of form and isn't one of those players who can compensate for it with hard work. With Schneiderlin out, I would go for: Davis James, Saeijs, Perry, Mills Euell, Wotton, Surman, Skacel BWP, Saga Subs: Forecast, Liptak, Gillett, Lallana, McClaggon Alternately, put Surman at left back, tuck Euell inside and bring in Lallana or McClaggon wide. We have options, but this is a crunch game. If we lose this and the Cardiff match we could be (even more of) a laughing stock at the bottom of the table
  23. Yeah you can delete them anytime. It's a pretty good system actually, try before you buy with no obligation.
  24. I thought Souness actually bought Monk from Torquay? I don't know if he qualifies as having come through our academy?
  25. on the playstation network. When the PS3 boots up, you get the media bar thing. Go to the icon that looks like a globe. From here, select playstation store as an option. You can then find stuff here. Latest gives you stuff that is new (obviously) but you can search for stuff if you are after something in particular. You can download themes and wallpaper for games as well. Be warned demos, tend to come in at 1-2gbs and can really make a dent in your hard drive space.
