For me, this season is like the first one we had in League 1. Ok, we don't have a 10-point deduction but it feels like we're starting out with one hand tied behind our back. I reckon we'll be top 6 this season but will actually have a much better chance of promotion next.

Oddly, I absolutely hate VAR when it’s Saints playing (I want a spontaneous experience) but don’t mind it when I’m a neutral, as it does add an element of drama. Similar to the above, it should just be used once per call (in real-time) to check for gross errors and then crack on. 10 seconds per check tops.

I remember when Championship at the time Reading signed the Bulgarian 1994 World Cup 'Golden Glove' winner (Bobby Mikhailov). People couldn't believe it, but then it quickly became apparent that he wasn't very good at all and had simply had a freak tournament playing behind the stellar team they had at that time. He was then 'injured' almost every week to avoid playing. To top things off, he wore a wig!
