Post-Match Reaction: Chelsea 1-3 SAINTS
Killers Knee replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Mane should get booked early every game, a better player when not going down easy. VVD is way better than i expected, Soares and Bertrand were flawless, Pelle and Wanyama back to their best and JWP and Davies staking their claims successfully. A full team display with nobody putting in a poor performance. -

Is anyone still defending James Ward-Prowse?

That is the root cause of our malaise as I see it, nothing to do with transfer policy or individual performances -
and the fact Smalling is starting to look good all of a sudden
-
I think the root cause of the problem isn't on the pitch and will not be resolved by our transfer window dealings. Slowly, as the Poch-trained players are lost one by one, the tactical nous of our team has also eroded. What made us good was our team game, not our individuals, we showed how football could be played with well coached players who were super-fit. When was the last time a commentator/pundit has been impressed with our high press game plan? Remarked on our intricate passing at speed? It was before December 2014 I suspect. It appears the addition of Koemans tactics on top of "The Southampton Way" gave us something extra at the beginning of last season, made us less defensive, but since December 2014 we have gone way too far in that direction and need to desperately get back to what made Southampton football attractive and effective, extreme fitness and well drilled players with great tactical understanding of the system we play. I don't think anyone is impressed with the "system" on display so far this season. We are Southampton, we play on the ground!

its one thing to watch that performance in sunny southern Mediterranean, but to have to watch it in those conditions you should be given medals. Well done.

Koemans post match interview, I think the stress is affecting his mental faculties. -
need to start fining players who play a diagonal floated pass, 100% of their wages. Hoofball crap reminiscent of the Rupert Lowe era.

We may cure Sleep Apnea before we score a goal. Please stop hitting diagonal crosses into Pele! A freakin school team could defend that tactic!!!
-
Thing that annoys me is our crossing. We have resorted to hitting diagonal crosses into Pelle who has his back to goal. We then require many things to go in our favour to get a shot away. We need to turn the defence, get them facing their own goal and cross from behind the defensive line. If Pelle wins the header, chances are he will work the keeper.
