Saints v Swindon,1st half & half time chat...
IronCitySaint replied to saint lard's topic in The Saints
Very surprised that it seems to be a full strength team out there tonight. Thought that the cups were not a priority for Cortese. -
Wonder if we are destined for a revolutionary new coaching setup. Seems like Cortese might be angling for a more 'European' type structure but my main worry with this is that I cannot think of any examples in English football where this has really worked but can think of several similar experiments that have failed, us included. Let's see, but I doubt that some of the names mentioned (O'Neil for example) would be interested in managing a club where emphasis is put on a development committee where he would not be making the bulk of the key decisions. Good luck to Alan Pardew. He rebuilt the team from total dross to a decent side in a short space of time and for that I am grateful for him.

Only heard this an hour ago and was devastated. Can't thank the great man enough for what he has done over the short 13 months since saving us from oblivion. He seemed to genuinely be one of the good guys and we were so lucky he chose our club. This is such a great loss for everyone who knew the man, and thousands of us who did not know him personally but were lifted by his jolly face sat there in the stands sharing the same excitement as we all feel about this club. Such a sad day but we must all ensure his legacy lives on. -
As a Bath graduate myself I would highly recommend the place. The campus is nice and the city is great - yes, a little bit expensive but well worth it. The University is ranked 27th in the whole world for job prospects on graduating so you can't get a lot better than that. When I was there they were just starting to develop the sports facilities and they are some of the best anywhere in the country. As a place to live it is way better than Bristol, IMO, so long as you ignore the swathes of American tourists in the summer! Saw a lot of up and coming bands at Moles club as well.

So that's what it feels like to win a trophy Fantastic day. -
myp2p has just updated its channel list and it is displaying the regular Chinese channels are showing the game live. Seems a bit unlikely but according to that it will be a live stream. Often, though, at game time these channels will be showing something else so must wait and see.
-
There is nothing listed for Saturday yet on myp2p so it may or may not be on. Seems a bit unlikely that they would show our game, though. FWIW, I usually find the streams from this site to be pretty good quality if you find the right one. Sopcast is the best, in my experience, and Tvants almost never works. From time to time there is also a good link for streaming in Media Player.

Best I have felt about Saints for many a long year. Finally we have a team to be proud of again, and that winning feeling is so great. Keep it up and maybe we can achieve the impossible this season.

Was really impressed with what appeared to be open and honest responses from AP. He seems to be on the same wavelength as most of the fans as to what needs to be done and where we are at the moment. Tonight was encouraging that we are heading in the right direction with the correct guys at the top and in the dugout.
-
Was just thinking whether they could try and do something a bit tricky and make all of this a mute point. Lets say that Southampton FC file an appeal to the ten point penalty with the Football League first thing tomorrow morning so that sets the appeal in process in motion and it is done by the existing owners. Then the idiots at the FL can't get anyone to sign a contract saying they won't appeal when the takeover is complete as the appeal is already underway. Suppose they could ask for the new owners to withdraw the appeal but that is even more dodgy. Probably a dumb idea!
-
Yes. We live to fight another day. There is still hope.
-
Hope they don't serve up the same ******** as Friday. Up for a win today.

I would imagine that is reason it has stayed open to this point but doesn't being in administration give the option to deal with things like this? Now SLH is supposed to be protected from its creditors so it might be possible to break (or at least renegotiate) long term leases. The lease would certainly be irrelevant in the case of SLH going into liquidation.

There are loads of internet streaming sites for footy but most of them are unwatchable most of the time, either because of constant buffering or too many people trying to tune in at the same time. It is getting better, though, and with the new flat screen TV's it is pretty easy to just connect the old computer to the TV and watch a game on the big screen for free. I am always surprised at how easy it is to get almost any big game on myp2p.eu but would imagine the big media companies are thinking up ways to shut these sites down as we speak. Although we still get free broadcasts of the 3pm and 5.30pm Premier League games on Saturday and the 4pm game on Sunday on Fox Soccer Channel, I hope that these free streaming sites are allowed to prosper. Something needs to level out the playing field in salaries and transfers and the big clubs are not going to do it voluntarily. The best way is for the ridiculous TV deals to dry up and return the game to the average fan who pays at the gate.

Only a rumour, but it would be nice...........

Yeah, right -
3-0 to them. Think this game will actually prove to be a huge anti-climax with them playing a bunch of 2nd and 3rd stringers and us missing a number of key players either mysteriously injured (i.e. being transfered) or loanees that are not allowed to play. There will be a lot of passing around in midfield by both teams but with them having the more class to actually put the ball in the net. Actually, all a bit like the last time we played them in the cup.

Your transfer window predictions for Saints
IronCitySaint replied to The Fat Controller's topic in The Saints
There is no money due for Bridge as they paid all 7 million up front. Think it was widely reported at the time. Given that, we will sign 36 league 1 or 2 reserve players with the only requirement being that they are under 20 years of age (doesn't matter if they can kick a football). This will ensure we have competition for places with all the other loanees that currently sit on the bench. Of course, we don't have enough money to keep a good first team manager, but these 36 new players will be funded out of thin air. Transferred out will be any player that any other club wants. -
OK, so I have got Wigan, Torino and Stuttgart interested and maybe a nibble from Inter and AC Milan. I know, must sign for Southampton.
-
For once I actually agree with you - those valuations seem about right to me. Of those I think it is most likely KD will stay for the rest of the season and be released in the summer. Not much point selling your only half decent keeper for the want of half a million, especially as we would have to pay off his contract as he has not asked for a move.
-
Whereas I agree things do sometimes get a bit tedious on this subject to say it is killing the forum is ridiculous. If there were no posts on the Lowe/Wilde situation there would be about three posts a day. A very large number of the daily posts are on that subject. So, in fact it seems like the Lowe/Wilde subject is actually keeping this forum alive.
-
OK, where did that salary figure for Pearson come from? I don't follow things as closely as I used to, but is that a complete guess or do you have something to substantiate that figure with? As for the 'three for the price of one' philosophy, that is Lowe through and through. Why get one decent player/manager when you can have three average ones? That is one of the main policies that got us in this situation with carrying a bloated squad of very average players instead of investing in fewer players of better quality and paying them a decent wage. Seems like someone never learns.
-
It certainly is a bit strange to list players like Jones in that article. As someone else pointed out, he was not a product of our academy and he went on strike to get a move to Sunderland. That does rather suggest that he wanted to leave, which surely fits into the good old Lowe philosophy of 'we won't stand in anyones way if they want out.' Some might say that shows a little bit of double standards. We can be fairly certain that the majority of those players he listed did really want to leave. Maybe the exception was Blackstock, but is he really that great?
-
For once I am in total agreement with you. This AIM listing is costing way more than any value we get from it and, IMO, the plc has been a total failure and hindered any progress that should have been made since its inception. Glad to see that a club like Sheffield Utd., who have many similarities to ourselves, are leading the way on this and hopefully this lead will be followed by our illustrious board. Fat chance, though.
-
If those players don't want to leave and Lowe says that he won't sell them unless they want to leave, what should we make of it all if they do leave next month? Will those player suddenly have decided they do want to leave? Just wondered.
-
You had better hope they haven't all been flogged by then, or pick up a mysterious injury just before the game in anticipation of being flogged.
