  1. I have seen nothing yet to make me change the opinion on him I posted on here when he took over - he's a pretty poor to average manager who had one very good season at WHU. A bit like the reliance that Strachen had on Beattie, if you take away Ricky Lambert you've got a pretty poor side that would finish lower mid table at best, even without the 10 points deduction.
  2. Bart I hope
  3. It was definitely 0-0 when he came on. Both goals were scored by Lee sharpe I think and were near the end, but last 10 minutes or so I'd say.
  4. I think 'revolutionary coaching set-up' is the phrase you are striving for! (I would have laughed at it if I hadn't been so angry!)
  5. Will the people who were referring to him as 'the new Paul Scholes' (without a hint of sarcasm)a few games into last season please remind us who they are?
  6. Does anyone know how close the station is to the ground at MK please? Quite important with a 7pm kick-off for those coming up from London. Thanks
  7. I can't remember his name, but I thought the Tranmere centre-back with the dreadlocks was a very good all-round player with a bit of pace.
  8. Not surprisingly, the players being nominated have, between them, barely played a game for Saints in the second half of the decade. Everyone should make a post May 2005 nomination in each category, too.
  9. You've got your timelines wrong. Bally played his last Saints game (I think) in autumn '82, a dramatic 3-2 win over Everton in which he missed a penalty. (I was there!) Williams didn't leave until Dec '84, long after Bally left. His form had been even better after Bally left and got him into the England side for several games. I think he got 'tapped up' on England duty and that eventually led to him going, after which he was never picked in another England squad.
  10. Despite all the offsides and the missed sitter, I thought he was by far our best player last night. Ironically he was substituted just after being wrongly given offside (I was right in line). I agree with some other posters that our midfield often don't see his runs quickly enough and delay releasing the ball.
  11. Last 4 league games: WON Hartlepool 3-1 Lallana (2) Lambert Drew Norwich 2-2 Lallana Connolly LOST Brighton 3-1 Lambert Drew Orient 2-2 Lambert (2) 5 points out of 12. Not such a great run after all.
  12. You obviously didn't see him up against Van basten in Euro 88 if you are writing something like that! Regarding the original post, as usual I think too many people are over-rating the squad. Jaidi (if he still has some legs) and Lallana are probably about the only 2 likely to challenge for a place in a good CCC team. The rest are probably about where they ought to be - in League 1, although one or two, notably Lambert, are obviously quite good at this level. (Not including Papa in this, as I haven't seen him yet.)
  13. I applaud your sentiments but disagree with your comments about Pardew. I was one of the very few who said I thought he was a poor appointment and so far, unfortunately, it looks like I may be right. Of course I hope he turns it around and I'm not calling for his head, but I reckon he'll be gone before Xmas and things will then pick up. When we have a 10 game winning run later in the autumn, you're welcome to throw this post back at me - I'll be delighted if that's the case!
  14. I wasn't trying to criticise him - it's just that not many teams improve dramatically having sold their star player! I'm just curious as to why this has happened
  15. If they are 3rd in the table, it looks like Bristol Rovers are doing better without Lambert than they were with him. Any reason for this? There has been a lot of comment about his lacking pace. Do they have more pace and mobility without him, which means there is more than ample compensation for losing their £1m 'goal machine'. Anyone ITK on this matter?
  16. Like Harry at Pompey, if he takes this role, he'll be manager within a few months.
  17. We were at school together in West London, in the same year. He was in the first team (naturally), I was in the 4th! Funny to see the photo of him above...it looks like he's as fat as me these days! He's definitely a character!
  18. This seems to have every footballing platitude in one short interview. The boy done well!
  19. What an excellent and fair summary.
  20. Agreed!
  21. 3 players it would be worth us getting in!
  22. LoL This is one of the funniest threads in a long time.
  23. What they also don't mention is that the side that he had to disassemble in order to get them winning again was put together by our current manager!
