Been reading villa forums about archer and gotta say I quite like the sound of him personally.. his main strength seems to be his finishing and we haven’t really had a top notch finisher since Danny ings, also looks to have a really good first touch judging by the videos .. a BBD Archer Armstrong front three would give us a unique front three with no actual traditional wingers but all can score

In my opinion regarding players losing their value a lot of it also seems to come down to manager stability also ..abk and Alcaraz both looked red hot prospects under differant managers .. the likes of Carrillo and tall pall both signed just before changing managers and then both ended up outcast .. A lot of times Our bigger money signings tend to lose their place in the team to cheaper signings or loans .. which obviously decreases their value only the players getting regular minutes really hold their value for us .. sometimes it’s not about ability and someone like Martin prefers a jack Stephens to abk or smallbone over a Alcaraz it can be horses for courses

I was referring to increasing our spending ie take the van dijk money and go make 25-40 m signings like Brighton are .. we just believed we could keep shopping at Aldi and turning them into stars

Even when we had our really golden period of good recruitment and expensive player sales including Vvd, we never really kicked on like Brighton are trying to do here and spent said money on more expensive players .. we always tend to try go for the cheap rough diamonds but when it doesn’t work you just get left with a load of cheap squad filler that nobody wants .. really hope if we do make any more signings we go all out to secure players who are gonna instantly improve the first team not another wave of Squad filler shite We need some quality

Agree 100 percent .. people try to use our netspend as we are competing and spending money .. in my book buying a bunch of cheap squad filler players or players we can loan to goztepe is not competing at all .. anything over 20m or 100 k wages we get a nosebleed whilst for the rest of the league it’s normal

Yeah but we have been an established premiership club for a long time with premiership revenue same as Leicester we had one season down on parachute payments and now we are back . not really sure how you can compare that with tiny little Luton who have been out of the top flight for over 30 years and mainly a league one or two club ?

Netspend is a different thing .. but we are still trying to buy players in the same price range as we where ten years ago .. Brighton and Brentford have both stepped up and bid 27 and 28 m for cavalho and o Riley ,. That’s what I mean by not competing we are clearly shopping in a more bargain basement way Ad it stands we have last years championship side for the premiership . (Swap bbd for che ) are you happy with that ?

These kinda fees are starting to be the going rate in the prem now . I’m not expecting us to compete finically with the big boys,, but when you got teams like West Ham who you used to be on a par with spending double and can’t even compete with the likes of Brighton Brentford Fulham etc is there even much point in us being in the premiership ?

Your missing my point though .. what I’m saying is when your manager is openly saying you need to sell, Blackmore is saying players have bad attitudes and. Then players are getting left out of pre season .: this is putting ourselves over a barrel with anyone who might be interested in the player as they know we are desperate and in ABK.s case we now tarnished his character do you see Celtic leaving Oriley out of pre season even though he’s a 25-30m player that can leave or Liverpool with carvalho ?? We make ourselves look desparate it’s not a very good poker face when trying to get a good deal

Sorry but worst ever signing ? you where absolutely wanking over him like he was the next vvd and saying enjoy him while he’s here under hasenhuttll ? He’s had injuries wasnt here last year and now Blackmore says he’s got an attitude suddenly turns him into one of our worst ever signings and don’t forget we are probably not gonna lose money on him, he was cheap in the first place

This is another issue for me .. why do we freeze out the players we want to sell ? Surely that’s weakening our hand when bargaining for example tranzonspor must know Damn well we need to sell and will probably buckle to their lowball offers now at some point ., Same goes for ABK who is gonna pay top dollar when they know we need to sell? we are freezing the player out of pre season and in this case even tarnishing his character through blackmores Comments .. it’s not too shrewd really Is it ?

Well when we very first linked with him back in June it was said valued at 30m plus their last two record sales where 25m each so I don’t really know how long it takes to discover that our bids are at least 8 mil or more short . Our bids are way short of his valuation and we are messing them around thinking they are gonna back down when there is clearly other clubs interested .. to answer your question I dont exactly know our budget .. but would have definitely had cf and gk priorities even over oriley. I think our bids for wingers isn’t really a position we are desperate for so if we are bidding 15-18 for likes of carvalho that could instead be used on oriley or the other positions goalkeeper wise it’s a shame we didn’t go for johansson he looked good and joined stoke so we could have probably pulled that off for a decent fee would love broja as the cf but again it’s looking 25 m or so , so probably rules us out but yeah the main tweak I’d make is either sign Fraser on the cheap and let him compete with the likes of Sam amo bbd( if used wide ) dibling edozie sulemana .. and use that 15-18 we where gonna spend in a position we are not to bad in to fund towards oriley and a striker

Yeah I think it’s pretty obvious he would come we just need to agree fee with Celtic and this could have been done .. unfortunately we are doing exactly what trabzonspor are doing to us with tall pall , the differance is other clubs are interested in oriley so keep messing around and you find out

Yep. And he was even getting in the chelsea side occasionally under poch .. bags of potential there. You always pay a premium when signing off players from the big clubs (like carvalho ) I’d love us to sign broja thought he was mustard last time .

Not sure about purple patch. In the premiership he was definitely one of our best players since we signed him until the end of the season and this at the higher level. I guess sometimes. It’s horses for courses.. whilst Martin certainly turned things round for the likes of arma and arribo Alcaraz kinda went the other way . Personally I think he stilll did a decent job for us, for russ I think it came down to preference for stuey who was also playing wel. but still I think Alcaraz did enough in his prem half season to show potential and he’s still only a kid who’s still struggling with language etc .. seems a shame to give up on him

I’m all for signing Fraser tbh : I think this position is one we don’t really need to spend much money on get Fraser on the cheap instead of wasting tons of budget on the likes of carvalho or Clarke. good thing with Fraser is for a winger he has decent end product .. very good finisher..he also sounded like he really wants to be here which is nice.. imo the likes of carvalho or Clarke are no guarantee of doing a better job so might as welll take him and spend the money where it needs spending on a striker and gk

Lol what a load of bullshit regarding Alcaraz: fans like him cos he runs around a lot ? Adam makes him sound like elyounoussi or something I like him because a creative and goal scoring am with super high potential he’s already been called up for Argentina and had juventus in for him you don’t see juve after will smallbone . Maybe he doesn’t fit into martins groovy gang but he was absolutely one of our best players in the prem last time and people seem quick to forget that Same goes for ABK in a way too don’t think anyone on here would have preferred stephens or bednarek to him at the start of our last prem season .. he was so good he got instantly called up for Germany and was nearly on a par with lavia at the first half of that season

I can even remember senmens using the fact our more expensive buys didn’t work out as a reason to keep buying players in the cheaper range .. I think the reality is though the majority of the league are willing to spend more then us now on the calibre of players we used to sign .. look at the difference between vvd wanyama and o Riley Celtic are now wanting 25 mil not 12 . So unless we step up our record transfers we will have to continue to look at other ways to do things on the cheap .:

I think mainly one of the problems Is we have kind of stood still on the amounts we are spending on players .. think back to when we got promoted alongside West Ham we where probably on a equal standing with them when we came back up ., but we are still shopping in the same price ranges as we where back then under cortese ten years or more later.. Now they are spending 40 whilst we are getting nosebleeds at anything over twenty million :. soending big money isn’t everything but it’s for sure a big advantage and we are already at the stage we can worry about the likes of a villa or West Ham taking our players ..

It’s a bit depressing when everyone is acting like Brighton being interested is like they are gonna blow us out the water like they are Real Madrid or something .. I get they have had a good period but really we are bigger club then Brighton .. but we do need to get with the times and realise 15 million fees ain’t much these days and most prem clubs will pay more then us

Meh to carvalho hope we don’t pay silly money for him.. give dibling or Sam amo the game time instead they both look more exciting ,: Oriley is a much better fit for us as a central midfielder that can contribute to attack. surely it makes more sense to throw the money at a proper cf rather then spend unnecessary money on wingers that are debatable if they are better then what we already have

Yeah, Russ seemed like he wasn’t happy that Alcaraz didn’t speak good English and it made it hard for him to play in the ways he wanted . I feel it’s a shame though if we don’t utilise him .. on the back of the that last premiership season he looked a 30n player and obviously juve wanted him so there’s obviously a ton of potential with him

Yeah we seem to really stockpile these wide players . That’s bbd edozie sulemana Sam amo potentially Fraser and we are still looking at others too .. it’s not really helping in the devolopement of these young players either . Take tella for example was only getting the odd start here and there for us and made little impact (albeit at a higher level) then when he went to a club that plays him week in week out he realised his potential and went to another level .. it’s hard with how many wide players we have for anyone to get the games to do that People excited about jack Clarke at Sunderland .. but he was getting all the minutes at Sunderland .. if Sula Sam amo or edozie was week in week out for Sunderland they could probably be just as good Imo
