Alcaraz probably the next most likely after stuey for me ..Adams isn’t really first choice 11 anymore. Like others suggest whilst we are winning maybe ross will just be introduced off the bench initially. but I just think maybe the club will see higher ceiling in Alcaraz over stuey especially with the Argentina call up .. stuey is playing better this season though

The trouble is now we have a settled starting like up, to accommodate Stewart someone will have to get dropped, I can’t see it being Arma or smallbone as russ loves both .. most likely to be stuey make way I think and that’s pretty harsh as he’s playing very well at the moment

Tbh I’m alright with this result .. was a pretty weakened side from us .. no sula and Alcatraz .. long away trip to a tricky side like Preston.. 4 wins and two draws in last 6.. is decent form and plenty of improvement still possible.. only slight gripe i guess is that we maybe should of been going full strength in such a tricky fixture ..

No he’s just not that good..I think people have seriously overhyped him on here . Mainly for the reason he’s been in the side so much people have gotten to see his other attributes and tried to talk that aspect of his game up., the modern day ormerod or long with slightly differant attributes unfortunately having a striker that couldn’t finish his dinner is about as much good as having a keeper that don’t make saves 😱

Kinda made this point before, but I just think the way we seem to be persisting with this young goalkeeper route is a waste of time.. the goalkeeper market is not that expensive . We could have picked up a decent ready to go keeper instead .. also the chances of us getting huge money/profits on the keeper isn’t that great even if he did turn out good .. don’t mean to be harsh but he was a liability last season and doesn’t seem to be a lot better this,, the team suffers giving him time to learn the ropes and if he does end up reaching the potential most of us are not even seeing he will probably fuck off anyway is it worth it ?

Don’t really agree on this he’s like a hologram and rarely makes saves .. and also has a crappy habit that when does make stops he parries the ball out to opposing player

what’s the point in us letting him make all his mistakes with us would be better off loaning him out if he’s not ready . all this talk of potential with him im not seeing it . Wouldn’t it be great to have a keeper like Niemi again who actually makes crazy stops you wouldn’t expect him to make ?

I think a lot of our opinions on russ are on a knife edge atm me included . But if we look the last 3 fixtures most thought Leeds would hammer us, stoke away also not a given so 7 points from these 3 is acceptable I think.. Too much being made of not beating Rotherham . Let’s guve him another 3 or 4 games and see how he goes

Agree with much of this. We played well vs Rotherham just one of those days. think over the last three games Martin has turned it round a bit can’t really call for the mans head after getting 7 points from the last 9, but it seems. Fragile situation with fans ready to turn after every bad result.

Still two of the three are proven 20+ goal strikers in this league. Stewart to come in, Mara let’s see .. also we can play with alcaraz false 9 and I’m sure sulamana will chip in some goals. For championship level I think we look quite stocked

Disagree really. I’m not at all a fan of Adams but him and Armstrong have both proven themselves in this league scoring 20 + a season each . Then we have Mara I know a lot of fans think he sucks atm but think it’s a bit unfair to judge him since he’s mainly been a bit part player, he’s getting a load of stick for not impacting a game in the fifteen minutes he gets off the bench but this isn’t easy for any player. Give him a run in the side who knows ? He’s scored goals in the Prem so could step up .

From reading Sunderland’s fans comments on him I get the feeling he could be our new Rickie lambert.. described him as a natural finisher that can score all types of goals decent with both feet and in the air. And also good touch and work rate .. some also thought he was kevin Phillips good . Sounds great

If you tried to look at this debate without the hindsight glasses on though I think you would easily go for our current squad .. The promotion team was basically a mix of players who had stepped up from league one .. even lambert unproven in the championship whilst current squad many have played at prem level some still looking good there like kwp Alcaraz sula .strikers having proven 20 goal seasons like AA and Adams’.. i think it would be hard to argue the promotion team look better on paper if you didn’t already they got promoted and went on to better

I don’t think sub appearances really count for much really no .. it paints a skewed picture especially when used in the way he played 53 times for us.onuachu had 11 to his name how many proper starts did he get ? 3 ? If Adams got the same amount of chances he wouldn’t have done fuck all either . martin I’s the first manager we have had that is preferring Armstrong (at least since the first few weeks of his saints career) and now he’s getting his confidence up because of the faith in him .. time will tell if he ends up better for us then Adams ever was

I think those 53 games you quote probably count sub appearances .. it has onuachu down as 11 games too .. i don’t thing AA really got a decent run in the side going .. his debut season he started ok then broja kinda took over(deservedly ) after that he kinda in and out and playing out of position sometimes . But no real prolonged run where he could get his confidence up .. compare that to Adams when he joined he had months and months on end of playing and not scoring but still kept his place .. he was alright when he had ings doing the goal scoring .. but last season we just kinda relentlessly started him even though he couldn’t hit a barn door for much of it.. we know exactly what we are getting with Adams but I think with AA it’s still open and it’s possible with confidence he could really catch fire 🔥

I’d argue we didn’t give him much of a run in the prem whilst with Adams we did and totally know what he’s good and bad at .. you can tell Armstrong is a confidence player .. with the manager fully believing in him I think he’s gonna really light up

This is it with him I think . He started great with us .. then was in and out the team under Ralph. His confidence then looked shot.. martin is the first manager who’s really put faith in him since he’s been with us and now we are starting to see what he can he do .. our results this season are a lot better with him in the team and not with che starting .

Close to the best side we could put out today . Fair play to Martin. Loving the confidence AA is finding now it’s time he plays instead of che two great finishes. Always thought Sulamana would be a class above in this division.. once we get our attack settled and clicking it’s gonna be really juicy ! also kwp really looking good again super ball for AA’s first

Not really But I think it shows we had no real effort or plan to keep anyone. And also the way we sell ourselves as a team to join to get a better move - now the chips are down nobody wants to be here and that probably reflects in performances and also that those who congratulated the club on a great transfer window,it’s probably more by luck that we managed to keep the likes of Adams Sulemana kwp etc

A handful of Southampton players did not know they were staying at the club until deadline day, & found it hard to get their heads around not leaving #saintsfc @TheAthleticFC this just shows we bascally had no real intent to keep anyone. This is it, with the squad at his disposal I think the par has to be challenging for automatic promotion and at the moment he’s falling well short, player wise we have easily some of the best in the league and the only real weak points are goalkeeper and strikers still but even the strikers you can argue AA and adams have hit 20 plus goals each in the league before. I think the trouble with this possession style football is it gives the opponents a lot of time to organise themselves defensively and then when they break hit us outnumbered.. even Spain we have seen struggle against weak teams who just set up to defend and counter this. at the moment you gotta say we are suffering because of martins tactics and he looks totally all in on this philosophy so will be stubborn to change.:all his excuses sound a bit ridicolous and why do they only effect us ?
