He seems to be the tactically prudent manager we needed when we hired juric .. what we needed all season was a manager that adopts a defense first outlook and we wouldn’t be in this mess .people can think he doesn’t have the credentials but he’s already showing he’s a lot more capable then experienced managers like juric and Martin and this is a higher level then rohl has managed

It’s not just Media training you can clearly see he’s not just talking waffle like russ did .. he’s the first manager we have for a long time that seems to be able to improve us defensively .. gone is the naive stupidity of russ and juric and im not surprised at all we get a result today

Yeah it’s to early to even contemplate atm .. if he suddenly started pulling results out though it would be quite impressive he seems way more in reality and smart then russ who managed promotion

Totally agree with you on this. Just because this squad was crap in the premier league doesn’t mean it’s gonna be in the championship .. most of them are proven .. add to that it’s gonna be more difficult to upgrade the team whilst we are in the championship ..

Think he probably needs to play in a 2 to be max effective . We haven’t really played to his strengths at all .he’s got pace and is a decent finisher but needs the ball played in behind ..

Yeah I agree on formation Id also prefer a back four with two holding dms but downes was out also so maybe that played a part .. I do think rusk is talking a lot of common sense though after having martins playing suicide shit passing out from back and juric leaving the midfield wide open it makes a lot of sense to try and keep games tight and defend first .. think our best approach would be try to limit the space for the opposition as much as possible and then try to counter so there’s much more space on the break when we counter. pretty much opposite of what Martin was doing . at least rusk is recognising our limitations .. defense first is a good approach when you have a limited squad

I think it’s exactly the right approach .. our team are shit so you play to keep it tight and hope to nick a goal.. Greece won a euros like it with a crap Squad so it evens the playing field .. unfortunately we can’t even defend so it might not work either but at least he managed to not concede for a decent portion of the game

For what it’s worth I think rusks approach is the closest to right approach we have had this season .. he’s basically saying we have to defend first and try and make games tight .. when you are at a obvious disadvantage quality wise this seems to make a lot of sense .. result didn’t go to plan today but at least he gets it

Martin is a smarmy bullshitter and this is all self promotion as always . He reminds me of the type that tries to be popular with everyone . As a manager he seems bang average and can’t organise a defence . The only reason he was any more successful then Jones or juric is the success was in a lower league

Seems weird to me they didn’t do the same with Sam amo if this is really the case .. I mean it doesn’t take a lot for a young kid to get a ton of hype . SAA could have potentially been worth a lot more if we had given him the game time

Lampard like Koeman and hoddle would also command a great respect from the players .lampard is a intelligent guy who whilst not blessed with super physical attributes as a player still managed to be one of the best midfielders in the premiership.. that’s the kind of guy you want coaching your players Also whilst it seems all the rage to go for the upcoming manager like rohl who has no blemishes yet on his record it also makes him a hell of a lot more likely to get poached by a big club if he does do well then say the likes of lampard or cooper . I know some will point to that means he’s done a good job if that happens but surely it’s better to not have the disruption ?

Think lampard could be decent . Plays 4231 has premiership experience .. been great at championship levels in two different occasions and always strikes me as someone who succeeded in his playing career by being smart and dedicated ..

You could argue at least half this current side was built with Wilcox recruitment .. surely it’s a combination of him and Martin that put this terrible side together . We got promoted last year but I would hardly hail Wilcox work as a huge success

Thought we was the better side second half competed well sulemana dangerous and nice assist. Actually feel like juric is starting to get a little more out of them now. Unfortunately we still are so so weak defensively

I don’t really care what they cost as it’s not my money .. same as I won’t get the windfall when we mug some team off for Tyler dibling . I don’t think it’s even a debate that Paul and sully have been better then dibling since juric came in . You tried to pad diblings stats by giving all competitions so he got his two goals but sulemana was head and shoulders motm that day also lastly I have more time for both as they might actually still be Southampton players next season and play a big part whilst your boy swans off to warm the bench with utd or Newcastle or whoever

Pointless comparison sully and Paul didn’t get a look in under Martin . Dibling has had almost as many starts as sully and Paul combined yet still hasn’t much better stats in the pl . also all goals have been close range tap ins .. really he hasn’t done much bar a few mazy dribbles he just gets away with it more as he’s a academy kid let me put it another way if we had shelled out 50-100 million on him people would be criticising the shit out of him with the output compared to value

Shame he can’t play like milt whilst Matt was pure end product and could score from anywhere literally all I’ve seen from dibling is some nice dribbling and it’s not like he’s boufal good with that . He’s done pretty much nothing since Martin left imo all three of sully fernandes and pauk deserve their places more ..

Well it certainly would have been better for his value then not playing .. you can’t know that for sure ., I remember at the start of the season russ said something about Tyler being more developed physically which I guess was the reason Sam didn’t get the games

Not really sure what you mean .. when a kid breaks into the first team and shows potential the hype machine starts just as we have seen with dibling ….dibling hasn’t really contributed assists and only couple of goals .. Sam amo was basically In the same bracket as dibling a young kid who can beat players with pace and dribbling hes looked great when he did get on the pitch.. you just seem to be taking the fact he didn’t get the chances dibling did as proof that’s he’s not good enough . He certainly looks better then tella and Nathan dyer did at similar age

If we had played him regularly this season his value could have been big like diblings .. I mean dibling has a 100 m tag on him now just for beating players and nice dribbling, Sam just as capable of doing the same always looked great on the chances he did get .. wonder who made this decision to let him go ?
