Remember some of us have to watch the budget and so pick and choose. Dare I say it with one eye on the knockout rounds? Let's face it, all 3 places are decent to visit, so I chose one where I could kip at a friend's place.

Perhaps that was deliberate, to draw West Ham's teeth (such as they were), get the crowd on their backs and make them frustrated? We _were_ slow and I was grumbling about it in the pub, but I wasn't grumbling at the end..

Well, I've had my stress relieving pints.. The next Summer Lightning is celebratory! The fact that WH were crap is irrelevant.

Consensus in the (non SO) pub I'm in was how dire the match has been, and you could see how Accrington nearly got a result.. I've only had one pint, stressful matches see me having 2 pints..

It's Milan! I'm going to be cooly elegant. (Those who know me will all be snig gering.) Go to an Italian ski resort and you can spot the Milanese visitors by the fur and high heels. They're not much liked in many places. The Navigli district I understand to be pretty good for bars and restaurants. I've only ever been through Milan on the train, and never felt like the central station was a place to hang around in, although you can admire the rather horrible Fascist architecture. There's a few brewpubs and sports bars around so I'll do some research and post on here.

Yep, that's what I'm doing, although going early and staying with a friend. The regional train takes 1hr52 and costs €12.45 (under £11) or you can get the Frecciarossa which takes an hour and costs over 30 depending on time of day. €20 is a fair few apperitivi so I'm going to be a cheapskate.. Back in the 70's we beat someone like Stoke 5-0 under the floodlights. The Guardian report commented on overhearing fans grumbling as they left the Upper West Stand after the match.. One of the first ever fanzines was called Junk Mail (as it had its genesis at The Junction Inn) and contained a column written by "Milton Whine", which riffed on exactly this theme!

This topic came up in the pub after the game and the tentative conclusion was that he _is_ looking a bit trimmer, and maybe he's similar to the example of Lambert who said he never took care of his body until he came to Saints. Remember he came from a dinosaur Redknapp team (!) and that Lambert progressed over our seasons going from L1 to the PL. Let's hope he progresses on that track. He's certainly strong enough, we know he can finish, so a bit of extra fitness and sharpness and carrying a few pounds less around can only be a good thing.

I've got a car and could drive, but I suspect the old boy on the train I was chatting to didn't, so once again your glib assumptions are a fail.

Just got me Milan ticket with 2 aways. Inter wasn't showing on the site as I sat champing at the bit, then I noticed it said "from 9", and sure enough it came up when I refreshed the page at 9.

Just a quick post after getting home at 20 past midnight. This is for Griffo - the Southern Railway service is far worse than last year... The train - the last train of the night, which should have got me bak to my station just after 11, was cancelled. This was the last train of the night for my station and it it was effing cancelled. I managed to get to an intermediate station and then a taxi. There were other Saints fans on board who were going even further than me, and they were in deep sh*t. So don't tell us again we should "all be ashamed for not filling the ground" or I'll put you in a room with the MD of Southern Railways and leave you there until ... not sure, killed each other, possibly.

In that case I can see a PB tonight.:-) Currently in a 'spoons listening to rather flat Sparta singing.. The atmosphere is building...

Any update on that estimate from any evidence on how it's going for a 2er? I'd rather avoid discussing how I'm going to get a ticket over there as it tends to upset that delicate petal Turkish! ;-)

Let me guess, Turkish is being a c**t again? [Ah yes..] I suggest you he does what I do, and he puts me on ignore, that way he can avoid constantly proving he's a tiresome, repetitive c**t.

Well, I've got to wait for Friday (I think) to see if two aways will get me a ticket, and it looks like a close run thing so think the 5000 will go no problems. Flights, friend's flat and hotel booked so if this is an option I could well be interested. Plenty of people in the pub after the last home game interested but doubted getting tickets, and a couple already booked flights. More would book if there was availability. The Milan tourist board are probably pleading with the club!

Last post for this tea break, but you may have read it in the news that Southern have changed their schedules considerably this year due to their incompetence, appalling HR and lack of staff. Last season for one evening game the train was cancelled and I got away from Soton so late that I'd have already been home if I'd taken the car. It's got worse since.

You're allowed to drink in pubs before the game. I find I can achieve a mild state of stress reducing anaesthesia for a whole match in this way.
