  1. I thought they'd chopped your tree down?
  2. Got there before me: 'giovanile' = youth team... I won't bother checking the Italian press now - too much to do after my drive back yesterday and it looks like it's done anyway. Roll on an updated OS: first person to find it on there please give a direct link!
  3. Cazzo! It's on Sky over here but Udinese-Juve starts an hour afterwards and most bars aren't going to let me watch the second half, so back home for a dodgy online version...
  4. It's such a dog's breakfast of a website that if it's there I can't find it... It really is an appalling design, bad enough for most of us but I'd love to know how the visually impaired cope?
  5. I used to walk along there before they built the boardwalk: it occasionaly got interesting when the tide was in, and on a really high spring completely impassable. It used to be a difficult, muddy climb up to Priory Road until some volunteers improved it: "The Alan Jones Memorial Steps".. Stumpy himself would probably have said "bah humbug"...
  6. The wine is good there n'all... My only experience of driving on the wrong side was soon after I arrived in Italy some years ago in my little Fiesta and, preoccupied with bureaucractic worries, pulled out of a car park onto a quiet street. Quick panic and swerve when a car came the other way but the lady in the other car was laughing and no harm done.
  7. Just back (to my mum's)! I've been upt'north staying with various friends and had a night out in Manchester on the Saturday - great fun. Apart from the goals highlights were JWP - not looking out of place in the Premiership, Clyne looking a better buy every time I see him and the general play. Lambert and Davies coming on when they did was obviously planned from the start, but what an impact! So, so pleased that Lambert had finally got to the top division and then scored in his first match. Guly looked much more comfortable in that position, did he play there in Italy? Shame about Fox's mistake but unintentional and don't hold it against him. Puncheon worked hard but his shooting and decision making is still suspect. Davis' distribution could be better and disappointed that he was beaten at the near post, but the OP is right: I can't remember coming away from a defeat so positive.
  8. It could be that the player has a release clause in his contract. In any case the fact that Bologna _want_ or are asking €20m doesn't mean we're going to pay it or that they really expect to get it. Sometimes it seems nobody here has ever been to a market or bargained for anything. If I weren't going up to Manchester early tomorrow I'd have a look through the Italian press: I'd certainly check on Bologna's financial situation as Italian football certainly isn't rolling in money and might need our offer..
  9. Sod me! Three more pages I'm trying to read on a smartphone screen! I'll wait until tomorrow, 6/7 pages but what the heck.. But it's seriously addictive! Hope to chat to a few nutjobs at the citeh game..
  10. Well, the club haven't actually said anything, but I don't get the impression that NC is a tyre-kicker when it comes to business. He wouldn't waste somebody else's time and he certainly would waste his own.
  11. I went to the game and thought it was a useful exercise. It won't tell NA anything he doesn't already know about his recruitment targets, but it was a good learning experience for the team. They were a better team, but Saints weren't outclassed. The lesson was in how they exploited their superiority. Clyne looked useful and Puncheon was trying, but his decision making lets him down. Rodrigues was anonymous in his position, JWP looks the part and has good movement, Schneiderlin looked good in the first half but got tetchy and lost concentration in the second, perhaps frustrated by the poor off-the-ball movement at times. Some of our passing was crisp but could have been snappier and more accurate and we were given a much needed lesson in long range shooting, the need to close down in those areas and how players coming from deeper are difficult to pick up. There was a lack of bite in the game with one week to go to the real thing, but that aspect didn't concern me. I'm sure NA will find the video of the game a very useful educational tool.
  12. I'm in the UK on holiday but sure as hell wouldn't have been going if I lived here, but this is a bit of a treat to myself and I'm visiting various people over a number of days on the way there and back. I don't admit to any non-footie fans how much I'm paying for the ticket, I find it a bit embarassing! Anyway, off to book somewhere to stay for a night out in Manchester!
  13. and how what they actually get will differ from what they get offered. First late payment and I'd be off like a shot and putting a claim in..
  14. It doesn't matter. The electricity has been cut off.
  15. Presumably melt-down on Friday?
  16. On Ramirez the Italian press is saying that the foreign interest is Liverpool, Tottenham and Southampton but none are willinng to pay the €20 requested by Bologna. It could be, however that the club may reduce their price to enable the transfer to go ahead.. "Sul fantasista uruguagio ci sono Liverpool, Tottenham e Southampton, ma nessuno sembrerebbe essere intenzionato ad arrivare ai 20 milioni richiesti dal Bologna. Sembra possibile, invece, che il club rossoblù abbassi le sue richieste rendendo accessibile il trasferimento"
  17. .. and now I can't get into Saints Player. Asked for a password reset and they said the email was not held.. It's the b****y email you send me account information on FFS.

  19. I was trying to think of a way to express my opinion but you've summed it up perfectly.
  20. Quite! Anybody familiar with the border ballads [e.g. "Clerk Saunders"] will appreciate that we've had it within our own culture in the past, although fortunately we've moved on a bit. It seems to be a very peasant and uneducated cultural phenomenon.
  21. But Mero, the whole point is that none of us see how on earth they can. There's enough people on here with business experience at different levels, and one thing I reckon they'd all say is that the trust is severely undercapitalised, even without all the baggage and the unquantified nature of so many of the issues. They've got a To Do list, and they can't tick off any of the items because each one has so many contingencies, unknowns and associated crocks of ****. Their budget is unrealistic and idealistic in the extreme even if everything went as planned. Whoever said you'd be better off with a clean phoenix club was right, in my opinion.
  22. Is it fame or infamy, this wall, it changes every week? [For our older readers "Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in for me" seems quite appropriate for Pompey fans..] My onw wording would probably be Tal Ben Haim Saints Legend
  23. I do so like British understatement, although down The Gordon Arms or similar they'd probably say "no ****ing chance"... As for the £4million wage bill: you're in financial trouble for goodness sake! Overpaying is how you got into it in the first place.
  24. Will there be a special gold medal stamp issued when this thread finally finishes? First day covers with a Porstmouth post office stamping. In the meantime note this: "It’s only a fortnight until we play at Plymouth. In that time I need to put together a squad of 20 players.” and snig ger.
  25. I saw my name in a quote. The number of times I've seen my name in a quote is certainly more times than I've mentioned the person who was quoted. I find that quite funny. I also find it quite funny the number of times my posts such as this are immediately followed by posts from the person I have on ignore. Think I've mentioned said name twice, but if large numbers of people are aware who I've got on ignore it's not my fault. :-)
