  1. .. lose, wasn't it? You've been saying we look like a Championship team, so why the surprise? No, we didn't play well and some of your points would be reasonable if you weren't so constantly and lengthily negative. Watching Saints may not be a great joy at the moment but at least I can enjoy the win, before the inevitability of the comments on here which suck out any last remaining satisfaction.
  2. Some random thoughts, now I've been down to ageing parent in my village, checked on them, cheered them up and breathed a few beer fumes over them.. No doubt about MotM in Adams, some superb hold up play and took his goal really well. Some of our play in the first half in our defensive third was just inviting trouble: back, back, back and a little nick forward to JWP who always makes space but is sometimes under a load of pressure. Fortunately we improved as the game went on. Although we were all worried (hand up the liar who wasn't..) we weren't in too much danger from a frankly poor Bournemouth side, and I really don't understand why they are above us. There was plenty of effort put in but a lack of confidence is still evident. MN and Perraud when they came off looked completely *ucked, which is both a good and a bad sign. Towards the end we were in control, and although still worried here that was just the standard default for a Saints fan. Let's hope the 3 points gives us a bit of confidence.
  3. Because they play different bloomin' positions for a start and Ely is a lot more experienced even if his lack of pace frustrates me greatly. If he did play Edozie, Mara, Dibling etc. it would be like lambs to the slaughter and people would be moaning about that. Anyway, it's good to see Adams starting and I'd certainly like to see him on the pitch at the same time as one of our pacy youngsters, and a bit of luck off his bum, nose, shin, knee, toe poke would do me..
  4. I tend to ignore your predictions as you always go for the defeat, with some relish it seems. On Sunday I was thinking there looked a lack of urgency on the closing down, and bang, Rice scores. Looking back on the replay he did a nice one two, but was allowed an appalling amount of space. Tomorrow I'm not sure how to call it. You can see why there was a delay in playing AMN as he looked knacked after the first half and is obviously not premier league fit yet but who do you bring in as an alternative? Stu has the odd flash but is not back to his best, which may also be a fitness/post injury thing, so best off the bench. Che is due a goal and he can't go on working so hard without some reward, so I'm grabbing at that particular straw. It's about time we had a free kick in a dangerous area so maybe start Edozie or Djenepo. Caleta-Carr seems a decent enough replacement for ABK and was rather thrown in the deep end on Sunday so hope that baptism of fire helps his integration. Elyonoussi I find frustrating: there's a player in there but he lacks that yard of pace and doesn't quite make up for it with the anticipation and positional sense that you saw with a slowing down Jimmy Case or Alan Ball. The goal aside there was no lack of battling in the second half on Sunday, but goodness we need a spark or a bit of luck up front in the next game.
  5. Nah, don't be silly. Betamax..
  6. Steady on! 🙂 I wasn't keen on Corbyn and Owen Jones can be a bit right on and annoying, but I'd be tremendously annoyed if I were regarded as the inverse of any of the current crop of, let's be honest, cultish and viciously right wing Tories. The current lot have no regard for anyone but themselves and their paymasters, and all the empathy of a Great White in front of a juicy seal.
  7. How about a quick GoFundMe to the Copenhagen players to Go Kick Him? He's scary!
  8. Plus local women's leagues play Sunday afternoon..
  9. It's not that they're in the 18 but in the starting 11, although you could argue that it's good to have players to come on who make a difference, a positive one. If the crowd is anything like I'm feeling at the moment it could be a nervous one, but an early goal for us would help.
  10. Perhaps the forum should organise a lift board so that people can share costs.
  11. Feeling old? I remember when Stevie Mills looked young!
  12. I expect quite a few of them are looking at their majorities and updating their CVs. Tactical voting here we come...
  13. No. That just confused me..
  14. Better at weekends than impacting people who have to get to work. If strikes or engineering works impact our home games at least I save a fair bit of money on pre-match drinks and with an EV my fuel costs are minimal.
  15. Is it safe to come on here yet? I've given time for the usual depressives to enjoy themselves being negative. But I have to say they have more justification after Friday's game than for some time. Watching down the local pub I normally enjoy a few drinks watching the game but I barely managed the two. One team marginally less awful than the other and that was down to a bit of strength and experience. At one stage there were some substitutions and I nipped out to the loo. When I came back I saw Elyounoussi was still on the pitch: surely we must have a better alternative? I cannot see what he brings to the game and that's someone who in the past has understood what less than brilliant players can contribute. Now there's more of a coaching team I'd love to eavesdrop a conversation between them on the subject, it might be fascinating. JWP was not at his best, but my goodness, from a brief look at this thread some of you are quick enough to jump on somebody having an off day and not having much support alongside him.
  16. I've just seen the latest change. Flaming 'eck. I play football on a Sunday, and although I'm pretty crap am covering in goal at the moment as we've lost our keeper. What's the point of a season ticket? I appreciate some games may be changed for the convenience of TV but three in a row all on a Sunday?! There's sod all thought for the fans who fill the grounds and no chance of getting any money back like you will be able to if you have a one-off ticket for Brentford and can't make the new date.
  17. Just had an email from the FA that football will be back to normal next weekend, subject to security arrangements and Monday fixtures off obvs.
  18. Well, we're lucky there's no danger of you having any virtue to signal. I find it a rare event you making a post that isn't deeply unpleasant or offensive. Anyway, no grassroots or kids football tomorrow. I'll go and find a game of rugby or cricket for some sport and a minute's silence to show my respect.
  19. All football down to tier 7 and grassroots. I presume we'll be allowed to go for a run in the local park... Will it apply to next weekend too? The thing about low level football is you can't reschedule midweek as pitches and players just aren't available.
  20. So what is an appropriate response? Ignore it or as far as an ostenatious year of wearing black as in the Victorian era? Next weekend I'd agree with, and gives more time for arrangements to be made for many things, but this weekend go ahead with appropriate opportunities for the fans to pay their respects. The BBC last night was like some totalitarian state: Radio 4, 3, 2 and Solent all with the same broadcast: goodness knows what the TV was like. Having rolling coverage with commentators trying to fill the gaps is one thing, but on _all_ channels? Nicholas Witchell is oleaginously obsequious at the best of times, but luckily my mum turned her telly off before it got too much. Let people decide how and to what extent they pay their respects, but ultimately life goes on. I've been to far too many funerals in the last couple of years so I'm very familiar with those words from Ecclesiastes - "There is a time for everything". The funerals have ended up being celebrations of lives, whereas at the moment there seems to be a competition as to who can be the most sombre and respectful.
  21. Read this in one paper: The new owner apparently wanted Ronaldo as well!
  22. A few years ago I was staying with a friend in the Dales and she took me to the station at Darlo to get the train to see Saints at Newcastle. There were a surprising number with Saints colours on the platform, and I don't think Sunderland were at home!
  23. I know! Me agreeing with Charlie Wayman! 🙂 Why do some people need someone to blame all the time, and concentrate on a few specific incidents. It's sport by humans, not a mechanistic game of numbers by automatons. Bazunu was fooled by what looked like a mishit, but people would be complaining if he was static and not anticipating, which you just have to in goal. His distribution has really aided getting us up the pitch, and we all know what happens to McCarthy's clearances. Similarly with Adams: the amount of work he puts in really helps us as a team, but some have to concentrate on moments where he should have done better. It's where we are and I'd still prefer him to an uncrocked Kaladjzic. There's plenty of legitimate points to make: lack of goals from set pieces for example, but they will come, I feel. In his cameos Elodozie has shown excitingly quick feet as well as pace, and looks a definite upgrade on Redmond, with a greater potential for getting free kicks in dangerous places. All the new players look decent, but most are young and inexperienced at this level and playing alongside each other for the first time. As they gain more confidence in each other's abilities and limitations I hope to see better performances. After all, we could have been in Leicester's position..
  24. It's alright for you. I'm retired and need to go down the allotment to get some seedlings in, paint the back gate before tomorrow's rain, do my aged parent's daily morale visit, get some food in, cook it, check Saintsweb, go for a run as it's our first game on Sunday, check Saintsweb, peel and freeze some apples, check Saintsweb. Work? Pah! 😉
  25. I hope you've copyrighted that idea..
