Nothing really surprising there, we all know that Covid effects people with underlying conditions more and in many cases it is just finishing people off early. I thought it has always been made pretty clear when the death stats are "deaths who tested positive for Covid". Anyway, I think the most dangerous thing about this virus is what we don't know, not what we do so governments are wise to be cautious.

It would be interesting to know what science has suddenly changed on this, if it has at all. The government seem to pick and choose what science suits them sometimes. The way some Tories have pissed their pants over making them compulsory makes you wonder if they have been ignoring the science rather than be guided by it. You just have to look at the death rates in places like Japan and South Korea to know that they are a good idea.
