Transfer deadline day thread (Summer 2013)
aintforever replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
Thought we would have replaced Puncheon but still a decent window. Hope our lack of pace doesn't come back and haunt us. -
Mayuka Going To Sochaux on Loan (Confirmed)
aintforever replied to Glasgow_Saint's topic in The Saints
Surely this means we are going to get someone with pace in as a replacement? -
Fisk has usually got a good grasp of things in the Middle East, that article does ring true. I expect the only 'game changer' is the involvement of Hezbollah and the fact that Assad is winning.

As it stands, do we have a better midfield than Utd?
aintforever replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
I think Moyes will be a failure for them, he has won f*ck all. It's going to be great watching their downfall. -
I think this is key, we're having to change formation to crow-bar in a second centre forward. Personally i would have spent £15mill on a replacement for Puncheon and brought a young centre forward who was happy to be understudy to Lambert for a couple of seasons.
-
There's no real evidence there that contradicts the official version. The blinding white light from a man on the back of a motorbike could clearly be one of the many photographers.
-
Must be a fitness thing. I hope we are not trying to crowbar our academy players in for the sake of it.

Cork bigger voice in dressing room than we thought?
aintforever replied to Roger's topic in The Saints
Cork will be a regular again soon, very under-rated. -

Oh come on alpine is spot on, it wasn't long ago the Yanks were renaming French Fries Freedom Fries because they hated them so much. What was it Stormin Norman said? "Going to war without France is like going duck hunting without an accordion." ...now they are best buddies because we wont help start world war three on the back of some youtube clips.

I never once said Britain was the only country to 'police' the world, more that we have done more than our fair share. You gloss over the Afgan war but fact is it was to stop a worldwide terrorist threat (the Taliban being the regime that harboured Al Qaeda), France (just one example of a country not wanting to get their hands dirty) agree with the cause and have 550 troops out there, we have 9,000.

David Cameron: “It is clear to me that the British Parliament, reflecting the views of the British people, does not want to see British military action. I get that and the government will act accordingly.” A triumph for democracy. Plain and simple. Time for he Arab League to sort their own rancid mess out.

I couldn't care less if Milliband was electioneering, I would rather our politicians pander to the will of the British public that pander to the Yanks or the defence/oil industry. That is what democracy is all about, people vote for parties who share their point of view. You are naive if you think Cameron gives a monkeys about lives in Syria. The Tories stance is based on 1 - Keeping the USA happy and 2 - Arms contracts. If anything further happens in Syria it's the UN's responsibility, if there is clear evidence and a UN mandate I expect the British people will back action. Going in without this is daft as Iraq showed.
-
Milliband will do well out of this, I think there is little public support for getting involved in another war. I have gained a little more faith in our democratic system after what has happened this week.
-
What difference does that make? The war in Afganistan was to stop a Worldwide terrorist threat, we are still doing the dirty work, it makes no difference if it was not a UN mission.
-
What a load of nonsense, 444 UK soldiers have died in Afganistan alone. Meaning in that war alone more UK servicemen have died than from India, Nigeria and Pakistan combined over the last 65 years. Like i said, more than our fair share by a mile.
-
Well these other countries will never get their military up to scratch if we are forever doing their dirty work. When we act as the US's puppy dog for these things we not only waste our money and service people's lives we make ourselves a target for terrorism in the process. The us don't need our military anyway, it is tiny compared to theirs, they want us in for political reasons. As long as Israel seem to have some sort of hold over the US we should think very carefully before jumping in on their side.
-
That's plenty. The US can handle this by themselves easily, even easier with 4 or 5 others helping. We can sit back and do sweet FA knowing that we have done way more than our fair share over the last decade. Maybe it's time for Germany, France or Spain to watch their sons come back in body bags.
-
Plenty of countries have the capability. Anyway, if we use that as a reason we will be forever be the people doing the dirty work while richer, bigger countries just sit there and let us mugs get on with it.
-
It won't impact us any more than any of the other 200 odd countries. Why are we so special that we feel the need to be the World's police?
-
A do-nothing from Britain means absolutely f*ck-all, the US can still do it. There seems to be some mental block with British people about this. There are 195 countries in the World, that means excluding Syria obviously there are 194 choosing to "do nothing" why does us doing nothing mean anything? Just let someone else do it, it's nothing to do with us.

Southampton Football Club - A Blueprint for Success
aintforever replied to mcbendy's topic in The Saints
A good read but fact is we are where we are because we are owned by billionaires. The Walcott the Bale money didn't stop us going bust and getting relegated twice so not exactly a blueprint for success there. -
I'm not one for leaving early for food or drink but i fail to see why people get annoyed by what other people choose to do. Very strange! Fact is for some people football is just a day out with their mates, god forbid they have fun and do what they want! I get the impression the people that get annoyed by their behaviour are the sad, lonely football geek types who go on their own and take the whole thing very seriously.

Capital One Cup 3rd Round Draw - Home to Bristol City
aintforever replied to lickierambert's topic in The Saints
Easy home game please, this is a comp we have a chance of winning. -
The thing is, though it appeared Assad's forces were in the ascendancy, unless you are on the ground it is impossible to say what was going on behind the scenes. Assad might have realised that there will be no end to the rebels funding and he is running out of allies. Or a rogue general made the call to use the gas, or there were some important people in that area he had to kill. We just do not know. I expect they will be able to tell by the type of munitions used and the position they were fired from who was responsible. I also expect agents on the ground already found out before the men with blue helmets turned up. Also, if it was the rebels it didn't make sense for Assad to delay the inspectors. He would have wanted them to go in straight away.
