That was Saints in the 80's
-
We have had an easy set of fixtures so we are probably in a bit of a false position so I wouldn't be surprised if we only win one or two more before Xmas. having said that, a bit of confidence goes a long way and we are playing well. If we can keep the team fit there is no reason why we cannot keep it up.

Admitted I got that wrong whilst supporting Saints!

I was wrong about Pochettino, thought it would be a disaster. -
It was great because you could shout at the players and they could hear you and sometimes shout back. I remember some great banter, players like Neil Ruddock and Ian Wright always had something to say.
-
Even weirder wanting Man Utd to win to give us a chance of going top!
-
It is fantastic to hear, to do what we are doing with a nucleus of English players bodes very well for the future. Imagine what our squad would be like if we had kept hold of Walcott, Bale and Chamberlin!

Beat Arsenal, lose to Chelsea.

It's not a traditional war though is it? If it was I would think it was out of order. Does the Geneva Convention even apply when the enemy are not in uniform, sneaking around pretending to be civilians, hiding behind women and kids, then blowing themselves up taking out civilians in the process? If we send our boys out to fight guerrilla warfare in these sh!thole countries we shouldn't expect them to behave like Tommy from WW1, it's a different set of rules.

Anyone else nervous about the wheels falling off?

We are an above average Premier League side who has had an easy start, that's all. -
I feel sorry for the bloke who got sent down as I probably would have done the same thing in his situation. They shouldn't be out there in the first place.
-
True, but unless you pay a sh!t load of cash that affinity doesn't count for much.
-
It's great to hear but lets not be naive, players love it here because they are being paid a sh!t load of cash.

A very thought provoking article by a war veteran

I don't doubt that but this old chap obviously feels many didn't have a choice, I don't think either of us are in a position to call him a liar. -

I think his point was that whilst many chose to go, alot of poor people didn't have a choice. -

I agree to an extent. I think the main motivation for the Afgan war was to rid the country of a regime who harboured Islamic terrorists, wether Bin Laden was handed over or not was irrelevant, the regime being in place was a threat in itself because it supported the Al Quaeda movement. It did fit the whole USA Westernisation strategy though so an element of what you said is probably right. Iraq is a different story though, it was pure aggression from the US and UK. The thing is bringing freedom and democracy to a country is the exact same thing as giving corporations the freedom to exploit it. There is no difference. The problem is that giving people freedom and democracy is a good thing (no matter what anyone says about different cultures etc, democracy is the only right and fair system) and will always be the cloak to hide behind. -
Cortese would never sell for that.

As soon as the docks were turned into a political football you just knew Portsmouth would lose.

Great stuff, thoroughly deserved

Exactly, and if Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool and Man United we're not in European competition they would take the League Cup even more seriously. The reason they put out their reserves is because they have untold European games as well, not because they can't be arsed to win it.
-
Great, our squad gets 'game time' in our quest for a 7th place finish, meanwhile our trophy cabinet remains a complete embarrassment. Sunderland were poor tonight, we could have rested a few key players and got a result. Instead we think were f*cking Man Utd and put out our reserves because the League Cup is so beneath us. It was a wasted opportunity tonight, I don't remember Saints putting out a reserve team away to a Premier League side, one game away from the quarter finals before.
-
I couldn't give a sh!te what Sunderland did, if we wanted to win the cup we would have put out a stronger team. I wish the club would just be honest and say they don't care, it's all about he money and the Premier League. We are a a club with a f*cking embarrassment for a trophy cabinet, it's time we tried to do something about it.
-
It's arrogant to think we could put our reserves out and still go through.
-
What a pathetic, lame way to go out of a cup competition. Might as well ask the Football League to not bother entering us next year if we don't give a sh!te about it.

F*cking useless
