Wrong, though the UN didn't authorise military action the war in Iraq was justified as enforcing a UN resolution - that's how Blair got the war deemed 'legal' by his lawyers before we went in. Obama didn't need support of congress but going against their vote would have been political suicide. I see the French have already drawn up a tough UN resolution meaning that if Syria don't comply fully then we have military action fully backed by the UN - that will probably mean the UK getting involved as well. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24031203

There is no reason why the US can't use the current situation to their advantage though (and I think Obama is doing this perfectly). In agreeing to hand over their chemical weapons Syria have basically admitted they carried out the attack. There was NEVER any chance of it getting through congress, they were miles short of getting support from the US public. Now they have Russia's backing to draw up a UN resolution making the Syrians hand over all their chemical weapons or else. They can play exactly the same way as Iraq - send in the weapons inspectors, say they are not being allowed full access, then hey presto - we have military strikes backed by a UN resolution.
-
The only way to avoid a completely disastrous outcome would be for the US and Russia to come to some sort of an agreement and for Russia to put pressure on Assad. There is precious little we could do. The problem is that both the US and Russia have an agenda, neither really care about the people of Syria.

So his one win out of six games this season has actually improved his win ratio.

That video posted in the comments looks rather nasty ( I had to stop watching it). A Christian priest being executed by the "free syrian rebels" who according to one of the posters had Russian accents and were Wahhabis from the Caucasus. There is a huge risk that intervention could make things much worse, that fact alone hints at the US having a hidden agenda here.

Has anyone got decent 76 cup final memorabilia?

I have a programme, ticket and copy of the Sun from the monday afterwards. Those pics are fantastic. -
At least now we know what "debt free" looks like! I like the way the mongs are saying that the wages debts are covered by the parachutes, if that were the case they would pay them back in full by next January or whenever their final payment is. The fact that they are spreading payments over 40 months suggests they need the parachutes for the every day running of the club and the wages debts have just been kicked into the grass. Worry about those debts later, something will turn up.

If only that was true

Can we accommodate SRL & Osvaldo in the same team?
aintforever replied to doggface's topic in The Saints
I can't see that formation working, Rickie is a natural front man you might as well just play 4-4-2. -
I think any annoyance about teachers striking goes out the window when you see some c*nt sticking up for the bankers.
-
I have sympathy for them but plenty of people have spent years cultivating their careers and don't have the option of striking. Most people I have spoke to seem to be working twice as hard for effectively the same money. The country is skint, people accept that there has to be cut backs but as soon as certain people feel a little hard done by their toys come out the pram. If teachers are unhappy with their deal I'm pretty sure there are plenty of graduates willing to do the job.

As long as Osvaldo is happy to play in the wide role it shouldn't be a problem. -
You have to wonder how many thousands of people Assad has to gas before Russia and China give a sh!t. I can't see any nice ending to this. Even if a UN force goes in you will just end up with the usual muslim extremists fighting the 'occupiers'.
-
Totally agree, I think we are heading for another financial crash, bigger than the last one, and history will look back on the people creaming off millions as criminals. I still don't get the striking thing though, people should just change their job if they are not happy with it. No one is forcing anyone to do anything. Teachers are not poorly paid.
-
If they don't like the pay and conditions they can get a new job - that's how it works in today's world for everyone else.

Where have all the supporters gone? that is pathetic.

Your favourite Saints players that weren't popular?
aintforever replied to Bad Wolf's topic in The Saints
Barry Horne was always one of my favourites when I was younger. -
You're probably right about being too competitive too young. The team I played for as a kid won the league by launching it down the line then getting it in the mixer. It was very effective and we didn't care because we were winning. I suppose it could be argued that we play the way we do because we have little talent not the other way round though. In general English people have always been sh!t at football. The only time we ever won anything was with home advantage, light years ago. We keep looking for reasons but there might not be any, we may just need to face the fact that we are not very good.
-
They just need to restrict the amount of foreigners a team can field. Unless they do that, the money in the game over here will always mean people will come from far and wide to play here. Obviously kids should be coached the right way but I would be surprised if the standard of coaching in the Prem is worse than throughout Europe.

I would go for --------------------------Boruc------------------------ Clyne---------Yoshida----------------Lovren----------Shaw -----------Schneiderlin----------Wanyama------------ Rodriguez-------------Ramirez------------------Lallana ------------------------Lambert-------------------------
-
Was the lack of Clyne and Shaw the problem, or the lack of pace up front. IMO the 4-2-3-1 system works best if you have some natural wide players or runners in the 3 behind the striker. I think if there is no pace in the front four we will have problems regardless of how fast our full backs are.

Mayuka Going To Sochaux on Loan (Confirmed)
aintforever replied to Glasgow_Saint's topic in The Saints
Mayuka must have been worse value for money than Delgado.
