Nonsense, Pearson would have been on higher wages than the dutch guys but anyone who knows anything about football knows that the manager's wages are peanuts in comparison to players. And more importantly, a good manager is ALWAYS cost effective. The manager is ALWAYS the most important person at any football club. Hire a donkey manager and all the other decisions become irrelevant. Pearson would have got more out of the same players and kept us up and the banks wouldn't have pulled the plug if it looked like we were staying up.

Who's going to be supporting United tonight?

Change the way the kids are taught and it will help. Reduce the amount of games and foreigners in the Prem and it will help. I still think that there is only so much we can do though, I think it's genetics, English people just don't have good football skills. We've got some good players but none with the touch and flair of the best South Americans or Continentals. -

I came to that conclusion long ago. -

Not really, we are sh!t, and barring one lucky win with home advantage half a century ago, always have been. -

I did want Man U to win because they do have a few English players but it was fantastic watching them get ripped apart. They didn't even get close and it's good that they get to know their place in the food chain. The manner of the defeat did rather confirm the depressing fact that English people are not very good at football though. -
It's easy to look good when playing alongside players like Xavi and Iniesta - taking that into account you have to say Lallana is better. Plus Lallana is younger.

I want Peterborough to win, purely because Huddersfield made my end of season more stressful than it should have been.

Barcelona tonight - an insight into our future?

I do hope this thread is a p!ss take. -
I'm starting to get really cheesed off with all this "we can't sign players until we have new owners" bullsh!t. They are supposed to be running a sustainable business model. That means their wage bill should depend on their income, the name of the owners shouldn't have anything to do with it.

Who has ever said we aim to be consitantly top 6? CL football is a realistic aim even if it's only for one season.

I was speaking with someone from the coaching staff a while back, I think most Saints fans will be surprised by how serious Cortese is about the club's ambitions. It's not like when Lowe used to spout his b*ll*cks - he actually means what he says. Comparing Cortese to Lowe is laughable. Invest in youth and use sports science - woopie ****ing do, that's the blueprint for 99% of chairman up and down the country (even the clubs that buy short term success). It's not a new idea and it's not Lowe's or Cortese's. Brazil were using psychologists in the 1970's, teams were using ballet experts in the 80's, Bournemouth drafted in a body language expert the other season to help a striker. Even that backward outfit down the road utilised sports science under mr Backward Redknapp. Teams have been developing young players since the dawn of time.

I wonder how much Bishops would help out if SFC ever go into admin again?

10 years ago tomorrow was the last game at the Dell - definitely been one of the more eventful decades!
-
There are 4 less home games in the Prem so when you also take into account travel and booze there is probably not that much difference in cost.
-
All this "wait a season and build a squad" stuff is just complete b@ll@x, we could spend 10 years in the Championship and still get sent straight back down when we go up - it makes no difference. The sooner we go up the better, it's as simple as that.
-
Probably just the tip of the iceberg with regards to future income already spent. Also I doubt the Premier League will advance cash out of goodwill, it will come at a cost.
-
So much for Cortese hating pompey, dump a loyal Southampton company and use a portsmouth printing company that used to sponsor the dirty skate bastards. http://www.bournelocal.co.uk/news/business/saints_get_signed_1_2700092

Relegation from the Championship hurt more, I really thought we would bounce straight back from the Prem but Lowe's second relegation had me thinking we were screwed.
-
Great news they got promoted, would be fantastic if they end up above MKc*nts in a couple of seasons time.

I had religion rammed down my throat at school, I have every right to question their beliefs or call them idiots.
-
Because otherwise you might get ridiculed. For example if I went round saying I believed the moon is made of cheese and the Queen is an alien I would be subject to ridicule. Unless of course I could provide proof I was right.
-
You can't exactly blame them, if you believe strongly in something you should be able to provide some evidence that it actually exists.
-
The fact that religious people get offended when you question god's existence just proves that deep down they know it's all b@ll@cks. Someone could argue all day that Matt Le Tissier is a cr@p footballer, I wouldn't get offended because I don't just believe he's great, I KNOW he's great.

I think the "mindblowing" event was just humankind developing a conscience. We've evolved from monkeys, 1000's of years ago all that went through our heads was "must eat, must sh@g, must sh!t, must sleep". We reached a point where we developed enough to wonder why we are here and think about what is right and wrong - religion was born. The more we develop the more religion will be seen as laughable, it's no coincidence that the most religious parts of the world are the most backward.
