Is Cortese the best chairman in British football?
aintforever replied to Turkish's topic in The Saints
I mean seriously. How to get a club the size of Southampton, backed by billionaires out of League 1: Step 1: Find a good manager Step 2: Sign a few cheques Step 3.... oh wait it's done. -

It must be really hard to run a football club owned by multi-billionaires, well done Niccy. -

I can't believe they actually want to stop rich people investing in the game. I expect donations will just be counted as income along with everything else, they just don't want clubs racking up huge debts. There are millions of ways rich owners could get round any rules, stopping people pumping money in would be futile and counter-productive.

It was naive to think he wouldn't go. Even though I think he would probably develop better playing first team football for a couple more seasons as a pro you have to take these opportunities when they arise. £12mill cash would be good business, especially considering Leibherr only paid around 15 for the whole club.
-
Obviously if there are ways around it it won't matter, but we wouldn't be able to do what we did this/last season (rack up £7mill odd of debt) under the new rules.
-
Of course having a billionaire owner gives Saints an edge, my point is that it will be nowhere near the edge we could have if we can't spunk millions on new players. That is an undeniable fact.
-
1: We will probably be in this league more than 1 season 2: All clubs are aware of it 3: Building a bigger stadium probably wont help us in The Championship where we will rarely sell out 4: We are not a big Championship club so this is nonsense 5: Our only hope of gaining an decent advantage if these rules come into effect
-
That's typical, finally get owned by billionaires and they change the bloody rules. This could obviously have a negative effect on us.

Sort of begs the question, exactly how unsmooth does it have to get to not be able to arrange a press conference?

Toilets with rooves - happy days!

Just highlighting what a hypocrite you are having a go at someone moaning about price rises while your offspring sponges of us who have to fork out full whack.
-
As long as you are sat with the other boring c*nts and screaming brats in the Chapel I don't give a toss.
-
No wonder you're not moaning, if you get to take your sponging little kid in for free. Why should I subsidise you just because you decided to reproduce, it cost me £2 a game when I was a nipper.

Not a huge difference to saying the same about Walcott when he was playing and losing against teams like Luton Town.
-
Because they don't want a ground full of season tickets?
-
Not a tough call at all, he's a good player keep him.
-
Not really, he will choose to spend his money on something else, the club will lose out on his cash.
-
I would say it's knowing where to run and making the right choices when an the ball. When and where to pass or shoot. Theo is still learning and is still miles from peaking but judging purely on what they did at Saints I would say Chambo makes better decisions than Theo did at the same age.
-
Losing Walcott p!ssed me off the most, it seemed I only saw him play a handful of games before he left to the Tappy-Tappy School of Win F*ck-all in London. At least we got to watch Shearer play a bit.
-
I've not got a big issue with the prices except for the fact that anyone facing a massive hike will probably have their nose put out of joint and not come back. Over 60's were deemed worthy of a concession last year, I don't see what's changed. I have an issue with Matthew Le God though, if Cortese raped virgins and ate babies he would be on here defending him. He seems to think he's some sort of one man positive spin machine. I bet he has a "Saints Go Wilde" Tshirt in his wardrobe at home somewhere.

I think Chambo will be a better player, he has a better football brain - that's why Ferguson is sniffing around.
