Being so well travelled you must surely be aware that some cultures are crueler to animals than others then? For example in Spain they torture and kill Bulls for a laff, in Japan they slaughter Dolphins. In the UK we do neither of those.

We need to eat, wether we need to eat meat is a different debate altogether. I think people who hunt for sport are t@ssers as well, it takes a special type of t@sser to butcher a dolphin or whale though IMO, unless they depend on them for their existence.

Not really, in the UK we kill cows for food. In Japan they kill cows for food and butcher thousands of dolphins. There is a difference there, there is nothing stopping us butchering dolphins, we just dont do it because we are not as cruel.

True but CO2 is a significant greenhouse gas, which we are pumping out billions of tons of and is linked to the temperature of the planet. Just because there are other greenhouse gasses how does that make CO2 not a greenhouse gas?

The climate has always changed, but it has changed for a reason (solar cycles, shifts in the earth's orbit, volcanoes etc). These are things scientists observe and measure and the vast majority think they cannot account for the recent warming. CO2 absorbs heat more than the other gasses in our atmosphere - FACT CO2 levels have been linked directly to temperature thoughout the Earth's history - FACT Humans are pumping out billions of tons of it - FACT Much is still to be learned about the effects of man's CO2 but many experts predict a catastrophic outcome, it would be very foolish just to ignore these facts and hope the scientists are wrong when common sense says they are not.

I think it's a mistake to mix the science of climate change with politics, the two are completely separate. Every government on the planet (apart from only Saudi Arabia I think) recognize that man is effecting the climate, that cannot be a right or left wing agenda, it's just science. Where they do mix is in how we combat it, as long as all the world's countries are competing against one another on a global market there will NEVER be any effective change - the only way for change is by working together for the benefit of everyone and government control, that is what the right wing are finding so hard to come to terms with.

True, if that happened we would be screwed. Fact is, though scientists are pretty much agreed that man made climate change is happening, they don't appear to have a clue when it comes to predicting the effects - which is all the more reason to stop pumping out CO2. On a positive note there is always the chance that the earth's natural cycles even out the effect man has had, much will be learnt in the next few years IMO.

Whilst this cold snap doesn't mean anything with regards to a warming climate, it does pose the question - Do we in the UK really care if the climate gets warmer? It is a selfish point of view but whilst millions could die in Africa, America and Asia, from what I've read there is a good chance we could be one of climate change's winners.
