Yeah, but this season they were doing OK, unless Boro think they have a devine right to be top of the league, 1 point off second place is doing well. Having decided during the summer, after relegation, that Southgate was the man for the job, sacking him then made little sense IMO.
-
They were 4th, 1 point off automatic when Southgate was sacked.
-
Strachan's problem is that he came in when the team were doing well (which makes you wonder why Southgate was sacked).
-
The plans look good, certainly an improvement on Woodward's "state of the art, cutting edge blah blah blah....".

There is always £he possibili£y that Cor£esse showed him £he benefi£s of having Southamp£on as a venue.

It is an amazing reversal of fortune, if you rewind just a few months we were facing the very real possibility of going out of business and starting up in the Blue Square and they just landed an Arab billionaire and were talking about Champions League football. There's a real chance now of us being in the same league as them next year, us with a billionare, them facing financial ruin and the possibility of an AFC Portsmouth in the BS.

Probably because banking is tediously boring and football is fun.

The telegraph said this... "The funding was secured after club management and the Professional Footballers' Association had held crisis talks with the players." It sort of implies that the PFA was involved somehow. Surely they couldn't loan the cash though?!

The pressure is different but it's about technique, which is the same wether you are in front of 20,000 or 100,000. If Le Tiss could teach his penalty taking technique (and regardless of caps he was better than Shearer at penalties) to the England side then the team could possibly be better off for it.

I can't work out if it's an Arab stitching up a Jew, a Jew stitching up an Arab or an Arab-Jew alliance stitching up a football club. All we know for certain is that they are at the mercy of a gun runner desperate to get as much money as he can and two skint foreigners who do not appear interested in the long term future of the football club. The skates should be worried - too many things don't add up, and usually that boils down to something dodgy going on.

St George, unless you stop mixing science with politics, no one is going to take you seriously. I suppose in your ****ed up world the tax on cigarettes is a big scam as well - don't tell me - the scientific community just invented the smoking-cancer link so y'all have to stump up more tax?!
-
You can only blame Wigley for that, the ****wit actually picked Dexter Blackstock ahead of Crouch at some point. You can't blame Beattie for wanting to leave after the jokers Lowe put in charge.
-
That list just highlights two glaring weakness's in the England side. Lack of decent keeper Lack of decent partner for Rooney. If we could resolve those before the summer we might have a chance of winning it IMO.
-
The conviction does look dodgy but I fail to see what anti-Americanism has got to do with it considering two of the people convicted are not American.
-
Our odds would probably be the same as Norwich's or Huddersfield's. the play-offs are a lottery, one dodgy penalty and a freak own goal and you're out - as we proved before
-
If we reach the play-offs it's only a 1 in 4 chance so you have to say promotion is unlikely. Very possible though.
-
Only 9 off the play-offs now - **** me this is easy.
-
Portsmouth were awful, if Burnley had any end product at all they would have won that easy. The skates actually look worse now than they did under Hart IMO, at least then they looked quite tough to break down.

I'm sure they could have expressed an interest dependent on the outcome of administration. And there was always going to be a SFC, all this "cease to exist" stuff is nonsense, since when do clubs the size of Southampton just vanish. Cities like ours Leeds portsmouth etc will ALWAYS have a football club. Even a hasty last minute bid by Southampton would probably win over places like Plymouth and Bristol. Even though it's not a big deal (probably just 180 minutes of football) we've been let down again by the usual short sighted, negative council.

But the temperatures vary for a reason, wether it's volcanic activity, solar activity or changes in the Earths orbit. Scientists have observed all the factors and concluded that greenhouse gasses are most likely to blame. If there had been an increase in solar activity, or a **** off great big volcano, they might have made different conclusions - but there hasn't and temperatures have risen relatively quickly for some reason.

Dune, the later part of the 20th century when the warming has happened, has actually seen a decline in solar irradiance - the natural variations you bang on about actually add proof to the man made climate warming theory.

Portsmouth fail to pay their players again...
aintforever replied to Daren W's topic in General Sports
What a load of nonsense, Portsmouth will always have a football team regardless of any financial difficulties. If they did somehow mysteriously vanish, it wouldn't make much difference to us. -
In a way I agree with you, if what the scientists say is happening is right then global warming will happen regardless of what we do about it, the feedback processes are already in place. What is the point in me recycling a Marmite jar when the government - for all their spin on the environment - plough ahead with building extra runways at Heathrow? And what our government is doing is a **** in the ocean compared to what China and India are doing. All governments care about is appeasing the masses, if they appear to be doing something they will get voted in - that is their only motivation. All this capping/carbon trading/ targets is just a load of nonsense. The world's governments will only get serious once the warming does - and then it will be too late. Luckily for us we shouldn't be too badly effected, our climate is pretty mild - if it gets a bit warmer we will be OK, if weather gets more severe we will be OK too. It's the millions worldwide who rely on their specific climate for their survival that are/will get hit the worst. Forget trying to combat it, just concentrate on adapting.

I'm guessing they have to pay their loan players otherwise they will just go back to their parent clubs. They are a complete joke, the Premier League must be sick to death of their "World's Greatest League" brand being associated with such a shoddy corrupt outfit. I can't see the transfer ban being lifted even if they find some cash.
