That's right, although SimpleSi thinks it's a poison, it's all coming back to me now.

Hameed is a strange one as he showed great promise on his debut years ago. Is it possible for him to turn it around or is the damage from this latest excursion with the test team beyond repair?

It seems to be more of an ignorance issue all round. The Spectator is analysing data which answers different questions which were put to SAGE. They do raise a good question of why the government didn’t include likelihood assessment but that would probably be beyond any government minister when it comes to ‘science and data analytics’, hence why the phrase ‘trust the experts’ gets overused.

Let's see how much Sue Gray can find and not find about this alleged party event: 'Even when a document trail exists, Ms Gray is enthusiastic about keeping it a secret. We know that she advised special advisers on how to destroy email (by "double-deletion") to thwart FOIA requesters.' from a BBC article (2015) about her. -
My mistake… from Abstract: A decrease in infectivity to ~10 % of the starting value was observable for SARS-CoV-2 over 20 minutes, with a large proportion of the loss occurring within the first 5 minutes after aerosolisation. in low RH (relative humidity) section: In summary, two efflorescence events resulted in a >90% decrease in percentage infectivity in just 2 minutes, lower than in any measurement in which the RH was maintained at a constant value.

It’s only a lab simulation study but it shows importance of PPE as airborne virus loses 90% effectiveness to infect in first five minutes. also needs to be peer reviewed.

Probably the Tory chief whip, Mark Spencer. They know they will be better off hanging all the dirty baggage on Johnson before the next election. -
It seems the Saints academy hasn't really delivered over the last few years, a number of promising players haven't made the grade, although do they see it as something that can be fixed or an issue with the academy? Is the goal to produce first team players or to cover costs in the hope of unearthing a gem? A different strategy can have a profound effect on costs. As you say, the development time in loaning to associated clubs could be the missing key. How much will and can be data driven when dealing with young players? Do they consider personal traits (drive, ambition, mental fortitude, etc) more important than technical ability with young recruits? The competition from other clubs for Brentford was too great and it did make sense when they were a lower league side to pick up players that had been well coached elsewhere and see if they could make the next step without incurring the supporting costs. Of course, that could change if they stay in the PL for a number of seasons if they see some advantage with the changing circumstances.

Some important questions regarding government policy. Time to move away from one size fits all to personalised healthcare. Didn’t make sense at the start of the pandemic but need to assess now with regards to the benefits/risks especially with other treatments coming along.
-
It will be interesting to see how the academy fits into their vision. Brentford abandoned theirs, although it could be due to cost of making it cat.1 as well as a catchment area competing with many other clubs.

Only by those who didn't know how too! Always question, that is a fundamental aspect of science.

Nothing new, been reports last year of chance to have the two viruses (not another variant) at the same time.

A new rule was added this season with regard to players unavailability for matches due to Covid Omicron variant: When making an application, clubs must provide the Board with the following details, together with clear reasons why they believe the match should be postponed: - Players and staff who have returned a positive COVID-19 test, their vaccination status and, if known, the source of their infections - Players and staff who are self-isolating - Players who are unavailable to play through injury or illness - Players listed on the club’s squad list who are still available to play in the match, including appropriately experienced Under-21 players (which includes Under-21 players who have played for the club, another Premier League or EFL club, or an overseas club in the current season) - Supporting medical information to verify the status of each unavailable player, which will be reviewed by the League’s medical advisers more here on what the PL will consider: 1) The impact of COVID-19 infections on a club’s squad, as well as injuries, illness and those isolating, and the number of players available on the squad list and any Under-21 players with appropriate experience. Where a club cannot field 13 outfield players and a goalkeeper either from its squad list or its appropriately experienced Under-21 players, the match will be postponed.2) The status of any COVID-19 outbreak within a club, including the number of individuals affected, the sequence and source of infections and their proximity to the match in question.3) A club’s ability to safely prepare its players in the lead-up to a match.4) Medical advice as to whether there is any unacceptable risk to the health and safety of players and staff by playing the match.5) Any advice from UK Health Security Agency and other public bodies.6) Any other exceptional circumstances. farcical as clubs will use this to their own advantage

Looking to move away from vaccines and monoclonal antibodies with some good antivirals. Good results, only issue is supplies.

I normally get up early to listen to the Ashes series but not this year. England haven’t prepared well although it has been difficult with the Pandemic. I would not be surprised if it was a 5-0 white wash especially if the last test goes back to Brisbane where England have a poor record. Only weather can help us!

Some good news from the work of Professor Gupta and team: 1. Omicron Spike protein mediates deficient cell entry and is inefficiently cleaved compared to Delta spike. We tested viral entry mediated by Wild Type, Delta and Omicron spikes using a pseudotyped virus system, infecting primary 3D lung alveolar organoids. 2. Omicron Spike protein induces relatively poor cell-cell fusion compared to WT and Delta. We expressed spike in cells stably expressing split GFP, so that Green signal could be measured over time upon cell-cell fusion and syncitia formation. The difference is significant. 3. What does this all mean? Efficient infection of lung cells could correlate with severity of lung disease. Syncitia or fused cells are often seen in respiratory tissues taken following severe disease. Delta was very good at both, in contrast to Omicron. Further work is needed. 4. We also tested how well antibodies from vaccinated individuals neutralised Omicron v Delta. We found that Omicron was poorly neutralised after two doses of mRNA or Ad vectored vaccine compared to Delta, but that the third dose (mRNA vaccine) rescued this at an early time point. 5. In summary this work suggests that Omicron does appear to have become more immune evasive, but that properties associated with disease progression *may* be attenuated to some extent. The significant growth of Omicron nevertheless represents a major public health challenge.

Their best defender is likely to be off in January. Only six months left on his contract they want to cash in. Just a question of how good is his replacement.
