  1. Never seen the opening ceromony of the Olympics as I'm more interested in the sport. But for this one I will.
  2. I though PFC were still hanging on in there but has one of the few had a premonition of PFC being dead, or they just can't wait? So when will Appy and his tourist party receive the bad news?
  3. As the saying goes it's what you do with it that counts! It's all well and good having (one of) the best training facilities but the most important aspects i would say is the staff and the process they have in developing the players. I doubt anyone on here knows much or any of that and can only be judged on the players coming through. I haven't seen the Les Reed saints player article but that may well give some oversight as to what they do from a sports science perspective.
  4. And the largest claimant... Probably why AA is involved to do a deal with his master.
  5. But are they...? It's an appealing story to report, where facts don't matter so much as much as the romance of the fans buying/rescuing their club from the big bad corporate wolves!
  6. Guardian blog on The demise by skate fan Luke Moore... http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/jul/25/portsmouth-oblivion-fans
  7. And a repeat of mine ;-)
  8. Thank goodness I missed that thread!
  9. I would have thought it was more "Hello Kanu, I've got an investment proposition for you, a banker it is, I just need some money up front for it to work so give me you're account details and I'll sort out the rest".
  10. Transfer fees are one thing - they are only looking at frees (atm!), but why pay the players above the odds, afterall, the trialists so far aren't special (quality-wise) and we've got to hear how most players are honoured to play for the bestest.
  11. Are they all from the UK? Also, will they operate as a team after the meeting, i.e. they are working on a project with a deliverable or is it just that they are in the same department and it's a getting to know you/ networking exercise?
  12. One thing that is puzzling, if BC does take ownership, will he be prepared to endorse the pay limits being banded about at the moment, the 5-6k per week plus add ons when the average league one salary is close to 1.5-2k per week mark?
  13. As a frequent flyer, less so now, much will depend on the airline you use and the class. If you don't fly business class, you'll have to make do with public seating where you can find it and entertain yourself while waiting to board the plane. You can pay to be a member of a lounge (priority pass is one) if you are going to fly many times - as a frequent flyer, a lounge has great benefits - food, drink, internet access, papers, TV, tell you when to board, priority boarding! Otherwise, get into a routine - check in online, get all your liquids in the plastic bag beforehand, laptop accessable etc. I don't like airports at the best of times and want to spend as little time there as possible on the return home. So I pack my bags so I don't have to check it into the hold and wait around at the carousel to pick it up, go through the IRIS scan (which is going after the olympics ;-( but not as bad as the end of portPASS going in the States as that was a HUGE bonus) and have the car waiting for me by phoning ahead (whether it's purple parking or a taxi/chauffeur). Also, you may have the chance to stay over the w/e so can invite your girlfriend over and explore a new place together.
  14. From a Brighton fan in Gib: "Speaking to a few Pompey fans when they were here last week to play Gib I got the impression that they'd done f**k all to try and save the club and were resigned to the fact that the best thing would be for the club to fold and re-form. Peter Storey seemed to be their bogey man but even this was pretty half-hearted and they seemed strangely lethargic and resigned to their fate. Bizarre really given that they pride themselves on their passionate support for their club."
  15. Well, they don't want to be out done by a bunch of part-timers!
  16. Birch racks up the pressure a bit more on the players... 10th Aug unless the remaining players settle, Chainrai not budging an inch especially in light of what the FL has imposed with their conditions. I wonder if he's also got a land purchase on his mind! So it's either League One on a shoe string budget or liquidation. What a mouth-watering choice.
  17. I heard that at Arsenal, the sports science dictates everything rather than being supportive in training objectives. A step to far when not everything is logical and the manager/coaching staff should have the control.
  18. Fee believed to be £800,000... http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jul/21/rangers-southampton-steven-davis
  19. I'm hopeful, but being a nutjob on the PTS thread, I'm fully expecting more twists to the saga before being let down by the skate club who never do what is expected!
  20. So on to the match against Brighton on tuesday... if the club make it that far!
  21. Trousers, you missed a bit... I don't think Appy informed Howard of the FLs views on budget constraints!
  22. Nicely put, I agree with all that. The youngsters will start to push hard for places which will be good for competition. It's interesting that there hasn't been as many rumours regarding any centre backs as we're had other positions.
  23. I had the three emails as well. I wish they could develop a flash free version, but still cheaper than sky and will not be as annoying as Hanson and Lawrenson on MotD with their derisory comments to Saints so that's a plus!
  24. Excellent - the old man is moaning already ;-)
