  1. Am I wearing my rose tinted nostalgic glasses???? cos I thought he was a really decent player. Agree he liked to beat the player he had already beaten!!!! but can only remember I with a smile PS We will win today as have relocated my lucky boxers, nuff said
  2. Would have to say a McMenemy style for me (but of course that only works if you're successful), closely followed by Strachan. But at the end of the day managers are judged by their results and so I'm more than happy to be supporting a more restrained and less flamboyant Adkins as he certainly is doing the business. I'm still not convinced we've got the "best players" in this division, so have to give Adkins all the credit for moulding the best team and keeping them going (even through a couple of rough patches).
  3. Feel free just to pop down on any of the nights the nets are running (Thurs 5th, 12th & 19th April) and people will make you more than welcome. Starts at 7:30 for an hour, all equipment provided and it won't cost you a penny. Will send you a PM with a couple of contact details if you like.
  4. We're actually seeing a bit of a resurgence (we were struggling a couple of years ago) and only started up the second team on Tuesday nights last year. Like many smaller village clubs we suffered from the village starting to lose it's sense of community and there being a dearth of youngsters in the locality. We managed to tie up with Gemmel's lads team who were playing in a colts league a couple of years back and as I also knew many of them I suggested they bring them all up to the Font. Many on here will know the lads as they are home and away every Saints match. Great bunch who have helped keep the Club on the map. I think one of the problems is the sheer number of cricket teams in Hampshire. Apparently the Saturday Hampshire League is the biggest in the world with 350 teams playing!!!!! Throw in many youngsters not particularly being that committed to a long day of cricket (everything is a 20/20 bash nowadays) and some Clubs are struggling.
  5. Our away win awesome, but throw in Reading losing and West Ham drawing means I'm drinking on a school night!!!!!!
  6. Mottisfont CC are are always on the lookout for players for their two Tuesday teams and one Saturday team (plus some Sunday friendlies). Both Tuesday teams play in Holt & Haskell Border League (Romsey & surrounding area). One team made up of young lads (16-20 yo) inc Gemmel's lad and his mates, and the other one a bit older (Minty turned out for a few games last year!!!!). Tuesday nights definitely laid back and just enjoying a relaxing game of cricket (18 overs bash). Saturday is 42 overs in the Hampshire League RDNW2. A bit more serious, but still pretty chilled. I'm sure Minty and Gemmel can vouch for how friendly everyone is up the Font and there's a pretty decent set up as well. We have free nets every Thursday @ 7:30 from 5th April onwards at Oasis Lord's Hill (formerly Oakslands School). Feel free to come along or drop us a PM for more info.
  7. 44 First game was 1974 v Glasgow Rangers in the Texaco Cup First away match was Brighton on New Years Day in the promotion year (think "that" Bristol Rovers game was a few weeks later). Born Northam, raised in Lordshill/Millbrook, now back living City Centre way. Have to say that the age profile on this thread is quite surprising, we're mostly all old feckers, which does make you wonder how we ***** so much like teenagers LOL
  8. Was 11ish and my overiding memory was also having to get off on the hard shoulder of a motorway (an elevated section???) and getting in after kick off and bascially seeing feck all for the first half. Managed to squeeze down the front at half time. Being honest although we got on the pitch first (the royal we, as I didn't!) I have to say that Rovers well and truly chased us back at the end when they all came on from a half covered end opposite. Took us ages to find our coach and was not the most pleasant of experiences afterwards LOL. That was the promotion season wasn't it??
  9. I remember when there were nuclear free city signs on the approach roads to the city. Waste of time, effort and money.
  10. Well we've received our Potassium Iodide tablets for the stay of the sub. Did you have them given to you for personal use or only handed out if there was a problem??
  11. If I were West Ham and their demise looked as though it would cause a problem(ie lose some points), then I'd take a few of their players on loan and pay hem £££££££s as a loan fee!!!!
  12. Don't get me wrong, I think they have really taken the ****5 for too long, I think the situation is dire and I wouldn't shed a tear if they folded, it's just that they have always manage to blag their way out of it (not worrying about who they have fooked over n the way).
  13. Have to say I'm in your camp Hypo as despite it being a total clusterfck I just think the footballing authorities will let them slip away.
  14. Half of that figure went in legal costs as it took so much litigation and pressure for NI to finally admit their culpability. As for the rest, well if a newspaper was hacking my 16 year old daughters phone (still whilst Church was a child star and not yet an adult) and eavesdropping on personal messages, some of which were very sensitive, then I would be incandescent with rage. Then throw in publicising my mothers attempted suicides and other personal issues, then I'm afraid I would want the book thrown at them. How much for your 16 year old daughter's privacy and the privacy of your mother???? £300k doesn't even come close!!!
  15. Without sounding too snobbish, I'm not sure popularity is always the best measure of something!!!!! Given what has emerged from Leveson today, then I have big issues over the malign influence of sections of the press (and the "this is in the past" response is about as convincing and sincere as the "lone rogue reporter" response). And there's nothing party politicial in there as the last Labour Government were just as much in cahoots and giving as much deference as the current Conservative one to undemocratic and vested interests.
  16. I agree that the NHS is a political minefield given its sacred cow status, but I also think it is something that we should rightly be proud of and something we need to be very careful with. The recent Commonwealth fund seems to have been overlooked by those critical of the current performance of the NHS. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/8877412/NHS-among-best-health-care-systems-in-the-world.html The problem with Lansley's clusterfck is that no one is really sure what he is trying to achieve, no one seems to have any idea what exactly the NHS will look like after his reforms and no one really seems to be in real favour of it (apart from Lansley and those who have backed themselves in to a corner with their misplaced loyalty). The Conservatives don't have a mandate for such a reorganisation and they appear to be going against their pre election promise of "no top down NHS reorganisation", so it's not surprising there is opposition to these ill thought out plans. I think the NHS has to move with the times and it cannot be immune to the economic pressures affecting every other institution, but this reorganisation does not seem to have been well thought out and should be shelved and replaced. Also not sure about using the BMAs stance 60+ years ago as a reason for not listening to them now, as it would be just as ridiculous to highlight how the Conservatives (and the likes of Mr and Mrs Docker) were so opposed to the creation of the NHS
  17. Not sure I would say won, more that they would have been deemed to have made the right decision (saying they've won makes it sound as though it is some sort of a battle, although I concede that the odd person seems to view it as a battle!!!!). However, I'm not sure it can or even should be measured in such narrow economic parameters. Some would argue that a fuller stadium, even if at slightly reduced ££££s is an advantage when playing at home, whilst others would point to the long term view of catching and retaining people as being a sensible approach. I think the Club have got things right, such as free tickets for U11s in the Chapel (great idea for catching them young), but also think they got other things wrong (initial season ticket selling was poorly handled). It's obviously not an easy job and everyone will have an opinion.
  18. I had the same problem with Stu, it's "ph" not "v"!!!!!!!!! Rooooooooaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrr
  19. Deary me fella, you really are struggling tonight. You're not going to have another breakdown are you???? You need to work out whether you're here for the **** take or whether you're serious. It's so confusing having to cope with your split personality
  20. You're not taking this web thing too serious are you????
  21. Borrow one, or just don't use the kid ticket
  22. If you're that desperate then they were still selling an adult and child pair in the family stand when I was at the ticket office today.
  23. Big sideburns and looked a tad overweight????
  24. I'm not defending Taylor (he deserved to walk), nor defending Noble who dived, but Sharp did go a bit headless for a bit and squaring up to Noble was somewhat provocative.
  25. A resounding 2-0 win against a team who had a bit of form, with a decent performance to boot, and off the top of my head, Keepers good save from Lambert's first time shot Lambert's flick on being cleared off the line Good save from Sharp Reaction save from Lallana Connolly effort under pressure going wide Disallowed goal As a bit of a critic of our recent form, I have to say Saturdays performance was pretty decent and close to our early season form which saw plenty of goals. New signings and players returning from injury mean we're hopefully back to our best.
