Jannik Vestergaard - Official: Signs for Leicester
woodsaint1 replied to ChiefScummer's topic in The Saints
For being nowhere near PL standard, Stephens has nearly 100 PL appearances at the age of 26. Yes hes not our best CB, but he has plenty of experience and at times has been a mainstay in our defence. In fact, he was excellent for us during parts of last season. Romeu returning to his best form helps provide Jack with that protection also. 10 months ago Stephens was getting praised on here and Vestergaard was worse than Hoedt. Vestergaard has improved significantly, but Stephens is still a good option for us -
Well that was meh. Inches off stealing a 1-0 win. I know Ralph doesnt make subs for the sake of it, but says alot about his trust in his bench when he waits until the 90th minute to do them
-
We have been desperate so far. Fulham equally as bad. Really need to waken up and theres not many options on the bench

Unlikely we'll see many incomings this January window - other than a possible loan or if an great opportunity arises. It looks like full back cover (versatile for both sides) remains a priority, hence the previous links to Williams and Maehle. Be happy if the only business we did was addressing this. Outgoings-wise, it would be good to get Valery, Obafemi and Vokins out on loan. Give us an opportunity to get them some game time and assess whether they have a future here. Obafemi the most likely to be subject to any permanent offers and up to Ralph whether we take that up (given rumoured issues). Wouldnt be against him leaving permanently. Has demonstrated he can get goals in the PL but has slipped to 5th maybe 6th choice striker (behind Ings, Adams, Walcott, N'Lundulu and Long).

Stephens did very well for us at points last season. Seems to be a misconception that the 9-0 was his last real start for us. Remember very well his performance away to Leicester (mocking Vardys celebration too) where he was a rock for us. Said it before, I dont think hes a starter for us, but certainly can do a great job when called upon (could be the case this weekend). However, what would be the point in signing Salisu then? Hes had the extra opportunity to get up to fitness/speed with Ralphs system. He comes with a good reputation and its not as if hes being thrown into the deep end (not a must win game, no fans etc). If Vestergaard is definitely out then I would like to see Salisu

Entirely my thoughts too.
-
Not convinced. If we really had a strong interest in him for an extended period, we would have made a move for him much sooner (particularly given the low price tag). KWP is doing a great job anyways
-
He got run ragged by Wijnaldum and Jones for large periods of the Liverpool game. Booked for literally trying a rugby tackle and was waiting on him being sent off after being turned a number of times. Has had a very good start to his Spurs career, but was one of his poorest performances yet (even though Spurs fans were still gushing over his 'heart' and workrate)
-
So Ings has been back for 2 and a half games where hes notched up a goal and an assist, but reading on here you'd think he was done 🤷🏽♂️. Worth mentioning Che with another great assist. His build up play and contribution to the team has been excellent this season

The anger is real 😂😂
-
Look where we were when denied a win away to Arse last season, and now look where we are. Disappointed not to take advantage of the extra man in the last half hour, but always difficult to break down teams that just sit in. Decent point and being the dominant team at their place shows how far we've come

Always thought Vestergaard could become a decent player for us (certainly in the minority on here), but his performances the last few months have even exceeded those expectations. You can see the confidence oozing out of him -
Sides at the bottom at risk of being cut adrift already. 34 points (or less) will likely see teams safe this season. Means we only need a few more wins and we're safe 😂. Time to start looking up for once
-
Remember when people called Vestergaard our worst CB signing in recent years, even rating Hoedt better than him. Has been excellent this season. What a header
-
Ugly win, but thats the sign of title winning teams
-
Not sure why we should be just about satisfied with a draw. We've beaten them at the Amex last two seasons (good value for both wins too) and would say we've improved more than they have since we last met them
-
Please can we have an away draw against a team in League 1 or below for once. Would like to see an analysis of our last 10 years of cup draws - its always PL or decent Championship teams we get 😴
-
If Maupay is out then that would be a big plus for us
-
You score some, you miss some. Thats a very good point for us

Finally getting to read this. Crocker comes across as very impressive and it is refreshing to see him using his previous experience here to try and return the club to its core values. He places so much emphasis on the new B team and how important it is to the progression of the club. Begs the question though why somebody like Dave Horseman is in charge of the team. Willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that the team are still adapting to new style of play, but the results this season havent been great so far
-
Spurs will fall away, they've no balls
-
Would certainly agree. We weren't bad against Palace, and had we got the first goal we probably would have won it
-
Seeing what we're doing now just makes you wonder what the Spurs performance was all about. We still have a high line because the system demands it, but against Spurs we got it all wrong - or did they just expose our system to the fullest
-
What a glorious sight to see us top of the table! Even more so considering where we were after the Spurs game and the meltdown on here. Great credit to the team and Ralph in particular. For god sake Gao, or whoever is coming in, back that man!!!

Got it wrong after going 4 up. Some ppl just cant be pleased
