Definitely cheaper than fixing the issues with the NHS to stop it being overwhelmed....
-
Just a thought.... Didn't Boris madly proudly exclaim when the vaccines were first developed that the UK had secured three times as many as it needed to vaccinate the population? Nothing like a bit of fear mongering to 'encourage' everyone to get their 'booster' / third jab to use up the stocks we've had to pay for before they go out of date
-
I know! I wasn't the one who brought up herd immunity, merely pointed out that it is broken (or certainly the perception of it!). There is no "super immunity" as you claimed - Charles Le Clerc has tested positive for the second time in 2021 as I'm sure many others have as well, in the same way that you can catch a cold twice in a year. As I have shown from the figures posted earlier, the vaccine IS working to reduce the number of hospitalisations and deaths. We don't know for sure as it isn't included in the figures, but are the hospitalisations from non vaccinated people? If so, the answer is very simple (should the NHS be overwhelmed).

Horseshit! This is a reasonable article that explains herd immunity through vaccination. What you're suggesting is that we won't achieve herd immunity unless / until the population (or 90% of it) has had covid and has achieved 'super immunity', which, frankly is laughable. Did we achieve herd immunity from measles because 90% of the population contracted it? What about mumps, rubella, TB?
-
Who is saying this? I cannot find anything definitive that states that anywhere - plenty of 'we're not sure, we need more data' (and rightly so), but no definitive statements.
-
And yet we can't get the 'super immunity' we need (made up bollocks, but that's another story!) if we keep locking everyone up and not exposing them to the virus....

Covid passports to enter hospitals would avoid a lockdown

Then we're all doomed I tells ya! Currently we have 89.4% of the population who have had one jab, 81.6% with two and 45.8% with three, so our 'herd immunity' must be broken. sauce 93k positive new cases yesterday (up 38.6% on the last 7 days). 111 daily deaths (down 4.5% on the last 7 days). 900 hospital admissions (up 8.1% over the last 7 days but also includes people who had covid in the last 28 days no matter what they have been admitted for, which changed from 14 days on the 15th of December). In general, the number of positive cases has been rising since early November (as you'd expect with all respiratory viruses during the winter), yet the daily death rate has been trending downwards over the same period of time (suggesting that the vaccines are stopping people from becoming seriously ill as predicted, but also that new treatments are more effective at preventing deaths). One stat that is STILL NOT REPORTED is the vaccination status of those being admitted to hospital and those dying from (and with!) covid. The single most important statistic right now and it is conveniently being ommited from the data sources and isn't freely available.

Seriously? Have you forgotten the Christmas party fiasco already? -

'Gone in a year'. Not much of a dressing down. Most of us had him being replaced by Rishi before next summer anyway - that's just based on the fact he's a complete bellend and has served his purpose and nothing to do with local by-elections. -
Nope. Nothing in there that states 'avoid Christmas parties'. He does say to 'deprioritise' social interactions, but that very much leaves it up to the individuals to decide for themselves what is and isn't important to them. Have you got a link to 'experts' stating we should 'avoid' Christmas parties?
-
Link?

I haven't profferred any advice....
-
And yet, when the 'experts' were advising that mask wearing should continue to be legally enforced during the summer or we would have 100k infections daily by the end of August, that 'advice' was proven to be incorrect.
-
Just do what the experts advise, it's really as simple as that. *you're

Nice to see the Civil Servants ignored the rules and it wasn't just the Government having parties last year. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-59701369 -
Is that the experts who said without a shadow of a doubt we would have 100k cases by the end of August if measures like wearing face masks weren't kept in place or different ones?

Wales have declared that all night clubs should close from Boxing Day, ergo they've clearly determined that night clubs are dangerous places that allow the virus to spread easily. Not sure I understand the logic in that decision! Given that the week before Christmas is usually the busiest (in terms of Xmas parties, nightclub visits for people who wouldn't normally go there), surely the logical thing to do would be to close them now to restrict the spread rather than wait another full week - maybe they've been taking tips from the Boris school of virus management! - or have they summarised that the spread won't really be that bad until after Xmas, despite the figures suggesting that cases are rising exponentially day on day....

Would you ban Matt Dawson's advert where he is trying to flog a "CE" marked medical device (a light!) that cures pain?

Aren't 50% of the voters too thick to be able to figure out what the app is telling them though -
Deaths (for any reason!) have always been 28 days, not sure about admissions though.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-59699135 Not much of a remonstration to be fair.... -
Why? I'm more than capable of not listening to his medical advice. Among many, many others, I also don't listen to the medical advice from my local Chinese takeaway owner - his advice on sweet and sour king prawn balls on the hand....
-
So you're saying he should be removed from his roles because he has a different opinion? Where do you draw the line, anyone who voted Labour / a.n.other party gets the boot? How is he putting people's lives at risk - no-one has to listen to what he has to say...
