  1. Used to live in Warsash. Steve Moran and Alan Ball used to live in the village.
  2. So will Ricky wear the number 9 shirt? Personally hope he does. Know he wears 7 for us but 9 was always the traditional shirt for a centre forward.
  3. I come to Bangkok every couple of weeks for work. Seen some good suggestions so far. The boat around the river's and canals is good way to spend an afternoon. Also around Saphin Taksin where you get the boat from there are loads of Silver craft shops if you are interested in buying silver goods.. They will often custom make stuff for you but can take a week or so. Would definitely recommend Jim Thompson's House The Barbican that Um suggested used to be a good bar but has closed. Haven't seen anyone mention Chatachak market yet. Huge weekend market where you can get just about anything. Only open Saturdays and Sundays. Loads of shopping around Siam Paragon and WTC but you won't find to many bargains. All the big designer stores. Fake stuff Patpong Market or Chatachak The Bridge over the River Kwai (Kanchanaburi) is doable in a day and really interesting but it is a long drive. We did an over night as there is a lot more to see there than just the Bridge itself. A slightly closer day excursion is Ayutthaya. The old Siam Capital. Bit like Ankor Wat but on a slightly smaller scale. We went by car and come back on a boat along the river. Note all the Budha statues have had their heads cut off by the Khmer raiders who sacked the city a few hundred years ago I think Lemongrass on Sukhumvit Soi 24 is a nicer restaurant than Cabbages that some have mentioned. Baan Khanita on Sathorn Road Good bars include No Idea on Soi 20'. Soi 8 bar, Hide and Seek in Soi Ruam Rudee and Molley Mallones at Soi Convent. Some good bars on Soi 33'as well. The penalty spot on Sukhumvit between Soi 29 and Soi 31 is a good place to watch the football. As others have mentioned both the Sky Bar and Vertigo offer excellent views of the city.
  4. Too young at the time to remember if he was popular or not but at the time we had a number of big names, Keegan, Channon Ball etc but One of my favorite players at the time was Malcolm Waldron. Also quite like Dave Puckett as well.
  5. This. I think we should take the competition reasonably seriously. If we are serious about Europe the winner does get entry into the Europa league. Early rounds are a good opportunity to keep up the match fitness of a few fringe players, test the fitness of one or two coming back, and see how some of the youngsters are ready. So assuming Saturday we played our first choice team. I do see players like Cork, Mayuka, Hooiveld, Puncheon, Isgrove, Clyne or Chambers, Do Prado playing maybe Osvaldo if we think he needs competitive games. I can also see Stephens, Turnbull, Rowe, Sinclair and some of the other youngsters involved. One player who I would like to see a bit more of is Lee. He was starting to do quite well in the Championship then was injured all last year, but still think he might have something to offer.
  6. Have no basis to disagree with you, and agree that it seems a bit of a coincidence that we haven't used numbers previously assigned to Sharp, Hammond, Lee and Forren, however, if we have to use continuous numbering how come Boruc is 31 and Puncheon 42? Even if we plan to include Sharp, Hammond, Lee and possibly some of the youngster in the other empty numbers I don't see us getting to 42
  7. Agree. Read somewhere else that he wore 17 at Espanyol. He may see it as a lucky number particularly with reconnecting with Pochettino
  8. 45 Lived in Asia the last 17 Years (Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and now back in Singapore) First game was in 1977, Oldham at the Dell in the second division. Finished 1-1 and we were promoted a few weeks later. Got my first season ticket the season after in the Family centre. First away game was Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup in 1984. We won 2-1 with Steve Moran scoring in the last minute if I remember correctly. Now we are back in the Premier League get to see every game on TV, but we were also on a few times in the Championship. Last game I was at was 2-0 away to Orient the season we got promoted from League 1 Occupation - Management Consulting

  10. Thought under 21's don't count in the 25 so Shaw, Stephens, Chambers, Isgrove and JWP wouldn't be counted
  11. Hoy is there as he is the most successful British Olympian ever
  12. I have done this a number of times for business trips. I found Star Alliance to offer the best deals. This includes Airlines such as Lufthansa, Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand, United, ANA and Continental. They do a ticket where basically you can make upto 16 stops and less than 35000 miles. I would definitely recommend Asian Airlines over BA and Qantas as there is non of this pc nonsense forcing them to hire ugly middle aged stewardesses. I did Singapore - Bangkok- London- Berlin-Munich- NY-Baltimore-Miami-Sao Paulo-San Francisco- Sydney -Tokyo- Singapore last year for about US$ 5000. Prices vary a little on stops you make primarily because of airport taxes and surcharges which are obviously different. The good thing about this ticket is you can go back on yourself where some insist you have to keep going East or keep going West. You can also book through Star Alliance's website. Hope that helps.
  13. Sweet found a bar showing the game in Bangkok
  14. Singapore but off to Bangkok in an hour or so
  15. Yoshida for me
  16. This
  17. Davey, you planning to watch the Arsenal game somewhere on Saturday.
  18. Posted this on another thread. Great picture of Yoshida playing for Japan http://football.thestar.com.my/2012/09/11/japan-beat-iraq-10-after-kagawa-scare/
  19. Found this report on Japan's win over Iraq in the Malaysian Star today. Great Picture of Yoshida http://football.thestar.com.my/2012/09/11/japan-beat-iraq-10-after-kagawa-scare/
  20. Means I have to find somewhere in Penang showing the game at 3.00am now. :-)
  21. I have to say like others. I do not understand why anybody with "honest intentions" would buy them for $20m, considering the additional investment they would have to make in infrastructure, mthe team, etc. Didn't Green buy Rangers for something like $9m. For that he gets Ibrox, a state of the art training facility, a decent squad for the league they play in, and 50,000 supporters that turn up to watch home games in scottish League 3 against the likes of The likes of the mighty East Stirling
  22. Posted this on another thread but this suggests that Yoshida is playing left back for Japan on Thursday http://www1.skysports.com/football/live/match/273495/facts
  23. http://www1.skysports.com/football/live/match/273495/facts Suggesting here that Yoshida is playing left back for Japan against UAE on Thursday
  24. Mate, not going to be able to make it the pub tonight. Definitely up for for the Arsenal game in a couple of weeks though.
  25. Sadly, my company moved me to Singapore in July :-( Still expect to spend some time in Tokyo though, so if there are games on TV whilst I am up would be great to watch with fellow Saints
