  1. No, really, we don't. It's good, been very good last few years, it's made a welcome change travelling around the country knowing we've been in with a reasonable chance of getting a result unlike years past where results have been consistently poor. And this season has seen new grounds for some and attractive fixtures, will be interesting to see how it holds up in the coming seasons. But it's certainly been very good in numbers this season. But the football I've watched since MP arrived has, on the whole, been as good as anything I've seen from a Saints team in over 40 years of following this club. Looking forward to MP's side next season.
  2. Indeed, he obviously sold the club to those that have come in with his ambitious vision of the future, trouble is if the Liebherrs don't quite share the same ambition and are a little more hesitant/reluctant to provide the funds so quickly then he could be made to look a bit of a fool. It would be interesting to know what they thought or knew about that DVD sent out with STs last year?
  3. "Oh Crouch, Crouchy, used to be a skate but he's alright now" I always liked Leon personally.
  4. The Mackems seemed to think it's pretty good... http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=780429&page=5 And this is a chuckle... http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=780992
  5. TBF that one works both ways. The most bizarre thing for me is that so many people can go to a live football match and sit in almost silence for 90 minutes. Wake up and get involved FFS.
  6. Reading away midweek in the League Cup (mid 90s), the infamous one with the fake phone call to the club saying the game was off. We set off, heard on the radio that the match was postponed, turned around and then a little while later word grew it was a hoax and the club had again fallen for an Ali Dyer type set-up. Another quick turnaround only to hit massive traffic tailbacks between Basingstoke and Reading, finally arriving just after kickoff. The team only turned up just before! Terrible Saints performance, the hoax worked lost 2-1 I think, summed up a crap day!
  7. Don't doubt you're right. The cost of implementing safe standing (if the authorities ever woke up) would only get passed on to us mugs.
  8. Black and silver it is then. Not a stripe in sight.
  9. Uncanny. What a tragic last few years of his short life. RIP Mr Moore
  10. Fook in' 'ell! Another possibility (if adidas) could be the Basel shirt in red and white, Feyenord style, guess they could call it 2 big stripes!
  11. Call me a "cynical old ****"...because I am a cynical old ****...but I'd have to say just more p*rtsMYTH. Nice heartwarming "look at us we're special" story and shame other skates into investing. At the end of the day only a small percentage of their fans have actually pledged/paid up and they need significantly more financial input to make it viable or the "bestest" will have to start finding more excuses for staying away. I mean, It wouldn't be like them to make things up...
  12. No excuse not to 'pack the park' now then.
  13. That can't be true the "bestest" are surely now gonna 'pack the park' every week...they're already planning the ground expansion ffs...every one that was there last week (OK they couldn't fill the place but hey) will now back up their claims and be there with more passion, more noise that'll make yer ears bleed, home and away, nothing like it anywhere else in the world. They've got their club back. Well, when the TV cameras are there anyway. So they're still bending the rules for the cheating ****s then.
  14. Probably the biggest unsung hero this club has ever had. The man who brought through the likes of Le Tiss, Shearer, the Wallace brothers and countless other young players, he was doing a job he loved then suddenly thrust into the manager's seat following Bally's exit. Whether he truly wanted it has been questioned but he did what he thought was best for the club. .Within a year he was out of a job. It was a tough season, we had no money, it was yet another struggle. We stayed up on goal difference as Bally took City down, the famous story that word went round Maine Road that we were losing with minutes to go and they were safe. They stopped playing and went down. That day, Dave Merrington's wife was seriously ill, fighting for her life in hospital, Dave told no-one, spent hours by her side and then made a mad dash to the Dell for that vital game, a massive sacrifice for the club. Shortly after he was booted out. No apologies for bigging Dave up, I'm a DM fan.
  15. It is hard to believe the whacky 'MadStad' holds 7,000 less than SMS, looks very similar in size due to the steep rake of the stands but the downside of that is the cramped concourses squeezed underneath. The Ricoh has been designed better and despite the steeper design the concourse is more roomy. Another thing they got right, I remember when it was opened they said the acoustics was something they'd worked hard at to achieve as previous newbuilds had suffered (think the Barr ones were being referred to) I'm beginning to sound like MLG! That small bunch of Cov in the corner make a fair bit of noise tbf.
  16. Derby... Boro... Little difference between any of the ones you listed (Sunderland before expansion), all the others constructed by Barr.
  17. Me and the missus were walking down Shirley High Street and noticed events unfolding on the TV screens through the shop window of a television store. We stood, now with a growing audience, and watched the chaos on the pitch just assuming it was crowd trouble, it looked bad and visions of Heysel came back. We watched for a while and then went home, it was only then, now we could hear, that the shocking reality of the situation was becoming clear. Shocking day. Heysel, Bradford and Hillsborough, they were a mad few years.
  18. And here's the new flag that should have...
  19. Bristol Rovers used to have flower beds behind the goals at their old Eastville ground, that was a nice touch too I think it showcases Southampton perfectly, in the perfect birthplace of the club, exactly where a football stadium should be in the heart of the community. If it makes the opposition a little wary or intimidated on arriving then mores the better. But I agree, get it up to 40k at some point and that'll do nicely. But put a better roof on the place, the acoustics are sh*te.
  20. If yer average fan can see and analyse how well we're playing then any opposition with all their professional set-ups are one step ahead so these kind of reports are giving away any secrets, it just shows we're having an impact. The biggest struggle we could have is if Poch keeps this team performing and the recognition and plaudits continue to grow at this rate, then he'll become a hot sort-after property. And when you and your family have been used to living in the surroundings of a city like what Barcelona can offer is Southampton (or really any other city in this country outside of London) gonna be enough to keep him around for too long?
  21. Me neither...tho' I don't mind the original Southampton crest (although it never actually appeared on a Saints shirt) And........relax........I'd guess none of this is really gonna influence matters. Looks effective...like a glance down Southampton Water while portsea island gets nuked.
  22. The original could be done in silver... But don't forget these... We could get something more like... or
  23. Look, they may be just a bunch of thick, deluded, inbreeds from Fantasy Island but this time they may have a point. When you consider literally 100s of skates have put their money into it, not forgetting the dozens of local business' and their hefty contributions and then there's the local charities that have given up £thousands to get them to where they are today. But what makes them stand out against the rest is the colossal number of people who now rightfully hold a stake in p*rtsmyth football club, the biggest contributors, there must be getting on for 60 million taxpayers in this country. That surely should make them the biggest community-owned club in the country/world. #Like# that taxi twitter conversation too
