Back down to earth, but let's not lose our heads
Verbal Kint replied to Colinjb's topic in The Saints
Long ball football. That's all there is from Pards. I wouldn't mind if it was a plan B, but he sets the team up to play long ball. The most frustrating part is when we do get the ball down and play we can tear teams apart, but he'd rather play 'safe' and just knock it long and feed off the scraps -
I was sat near an elderly couple, both of whom must have been in their seventies, whose day out was nearly ruined because two youthful looking lads decided to stand directly in front of them for the first half, meaning they couldn't see anything. Do you think it's fair that those two fans had their day out at Wembley ruined?

Personnel actions to ensure promotion next season
Verbal Kint replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
I'd like to see us play with a bit more natural width next season, which would see Puncheon playing on the left and lallana on the right. Lallana isn't a natural wide player though, so i think signing an attacking full back who will get forward on the overlap should be the priority signing this summer. Still not convinced by Hammond either. I's like to see a central midfielder with more energy who can cover ground. Danns would have been a cracking signing in that sense i think. Davis New RB Fonte Jaidi Harding Lallana Morgan New CM Puncheon Lambert Barnard Would complete signings of Semi, Antonio and Papa as well -
To be fair he's the only one in the middle of the park. I keep seeing Hammond's name on the team sheet, and i see him do the coin toss at the start of the match. Then he goes missing for the next couple of hours

Not for the first time. His dive at Tranmere was embarrassing.

Rickie Lambert is a great header of the ball. He will thrive off good quality deliveries from wide areas. We need to play to his strengths which mean a couple of wingers who are capable of getting to the byline and getting some good quality crosses into the box. We play with wide players on the wrong side of the pitch to ensure this happens as little as possible. And when that doesn't work we throw on Lloyd to put even worse deliveries in. A cunning plan

The sad morons who go to football purely to get ****ed and sing anti-portsmouth songs and don't actually seem bothered in the slightest about the game going on in front of them. Fans at away games who feel they have a right to stand regardless of those fans around them that may not be able to stand up for the game (elderly fans and young children). It's selfish and pathetic. Grow up

Morgan isn't the problem though. Once again Hammond was totally anonymous last night. Morgan has really impressed this season mainly because he HAS added a physical side to his game. He does put his foot in and win the ball and he's a great passer. I'm struggling to see what Hammond brings to the team. The last two games i've seen were Tranmere and last night. In both we did nothing but long ball from first minute to last. I hope i've just been unlucky in picking those two games Also, a special mention for Lloyd James. I actually found his cameo last night totally laughable. The saddest thing about it is that AP clearly sees him as an attacking option from full back because he must think he can cross a ball. His crossing all season has been woeful
-
Fonte is a cheat. I hate to say that about a Saints player but that was disgusting to see. Let's just hope it was nothing more than frustrastion and that AP has some strong words with him about it and we don't see it again.

First goal scored last night by Puncheon skinning his man, getting to the by line and standing a cross up for Lambert with his right foot. Second goal came from a fantastic outswinging cross from the touchline. The difference is that neither Lallana or Puncheon are predictable, they can go either way and the full back can't usher them down one side for fear of them skinning them on the other. And in the case of Puncheon he has a yard of acceleration to get him away from the full back. We also saw the heading ability of Lambert. Both players should be encouraged to go past the outside of players and swing crosses in as we have the strikers to finish them off. Last night proved why genuine old fashioned wing play is still very effective in the modern game

The playoffs are gone now, and we aren't going to be relegated. But this next few months are crucial for AP and the team. For the first time in a while, i'm going to be more concerned about performances than results. I want to see us dominating games, particularly in the middle of the park where i think we have looked gutless and weak. I want to see us showing signs of being able to keep a few clean sheets (5 out of 28 in the league so far tells it's own story). I want to see us providing Lambert with some proper chances rather than having to create them himself. I want to see AP finding a formation that allows us to get the best out of our creative players (Lallana in particular). If at the end of this season AP hasn't done that then i think it's fair to start asking some serious questions of whether he's the right man for the job next year. We've spent a lot of money for this league, and AP needs to get this team showing some signs that it has the potential to challenge for the league next year. So far it hasn't even come close. We all have opinions on the best team, formations etc, but AP is the man paid to get it right. Time for him to show that he's capable of it

Paulllllll Wotttttttt-ton-ton-ton he's our midfield magician Paul wot-ton-ton-ton he'll give you a concussion To the left to the right he'll take you all on in a fight In his town, you'll bow down AND HE SH!TS ON MICHAEL BROWN!! Paullll Wotttttttton ton ton...

Couldn't disagree more. His crosses are nearly always from far too deep and he isn't able to get enough pace on them. Once in a while he can put in a cracker but 90% of the time they are easy moppings for the opposition centre halves. His corners as well are never whipped in with enough pace, just floated aimlessly into the box for the keeper to come and collect
-
Absolutely spot on in my opinion
-
I guess it really is a game of opinions. I thought he was absolutely hopeless against exeter. His crossing from open play and his corners were absolutely abysmal, as they have been every other time i've seen us this season. Couple that with the fact he's painfully slow and isn't a natural defender i really don't see how he's a regular in the side. But maybe i'm missing something?
-
He plays on the left, He plays on the riiiiiiiiiight, That boy lallana, Makes Ronaldo look sh!te. At least it might make a few fans smile...
-
Stopped reading there as that's clearly ******
-
Drew has the vision and football brain to see passes and spaces that other players don't. Unfortunately he lacks the ability to carry them out. Coupled that with his staggering lack of pace and inability to tackle and he's never going to be a premier league player. Always gave his all though and you can never ask for more than that. Hope he gets a run of games at Wolves soon when he's fit again
-
You are unbelievable... Shall we talk about Lallana?
-
Have a look at his record at club level as a whole and i think it's hard to argue that the man has huge ability as a manager. Whether people say he's a quitter or just past it as a manager is a different debate, but i really don't see how anyone can say he's a crap manager (which a few seem to be hinting at)

Newcastle: 1st full season: Champions of old 2nd division 2nd: 3rd in Premier league and qulaified for UEFA cup 3rd: Challenging for title before fading to finish 6th 4th: 2nd Fulham: 1st: Champions of old 3rd division Man City: 1st: Champions of 1st division to premier league 2nd: 9th 3rd: 16th I don't think it's too shabby a record to be honest...

He's been played out of position. Personally, i'd like to see him alongside Hammond in the middle with two natural wide players. Let's how he does then when he has the chance to really stamp his authority on games. I think Alpine and co might be pleasantly surprised
-
I couldn't agree more about tactical side of things. We haven't discovered his best position yet. However. I find it totally ridiculous to call a very talented footballer, born and raised in southampton, a life long fan to boot, a "****wit" and "complacent b!tch" who has always, despite being played out of position, given 100% for the side. I'm glad you don't attend many games if that is your attitude.
-
No not difficult when the vast majority of your posts the last couple of days have been about lallana and morgan.

"Facing another 38 games of Lallana running round like a headless chicken and giving the opposing goalkeeper practice at catching from crosses and corners does not exactly fill me with anticipation..." "It particularly refers to the younger players. So its got to mean the likes of Lallana and Schneiderlin, in my opinion.... Pardew plays his young complaicent b*tches again, then" "Saganowski will score if the incompetent f**kwits like Lallana and Schneiderlin give him service" I'd say calling him a ****wit and a complacent ***** was an attack of sorts yes...
