Didn't they hack Scotland to bits in 86? Seem to remember Strachan getting some particularly harsh treatment. Comically Uruguay had a guy sent off very early in that game but with the tactical anus that is Alex Ferguson in charge for that World Cup, the Sweats couldn't get a goal. When people harp on about what a supposedly great manager Ferguson is, they should remember the 86 World Cup; he was hopeless for the Sweats in that.

I don't understand why people pay on the day for away games. Doesn't this prevent them from getting it logged with the Saints ticket office that they've been to various away games, therefore potentially preventing them from getting tickets for future away games where demand may exceed supply?

I quite like Gough, he seems a pretty genuine guy. Ronnie Irani is the worst radio presenter I have heard in my life.

That last sentence is a very good point. Added to Lallana showing signs of coming good, we ought to be a major threat in this League.

Ah yes of course, I stupidly forgot about Steaua fans. They showed that you can make a deafening racket without a roof and also whilst getting wet. They were something else. There was a stunning female local copper in the away end as well. I can't do a Rule 1 unfortunately though.

I have not seen Pulis play, but The9 has on a number of occasions and I trust his judgment sufficiently to conclude that Pulis is nowhere near to the standard we require.

Eh? I was at that game (Dowie's first for Cov?) and their support was appalling all game. As Coventry's always has been.

Oh, is it a game of Guess Rattlehead's Nationality? I'll go for Uzbekistan.

Saints are massive.

Eh? But the Milton End at the Dell was just as quiet as the Chapel at St. Mary's. The Archers and East Stands were the only stands making any noise at the Dell.

At the risk of being a nerd, is that average crowd for 1992/93 correct? I remember being a student at Southampton Uni at the time and went to 3 or 4 games at Fratton in the away end to support the opposition, and vaguely recall it being the season that Corporal Guy got about 50 goals and they did get a few 20,000 plus crowds as they pushed for automatic promotion to the Prem but comically farked it up after getting a thrashing at Roker Park at the end of the season. Would have expected their average that season to be nearer 15,000; if I'm wrong then fair do's and apologies.

Walk across to Waterloo East, get a quick train to London Bridge, go and frequent one of the many boozers there for a few hours, then a shortish train trip from London Bridge to Charlton (20 minutes or so). Easy as pie.

At the risk of having a dodgy memory, apart from a couple of half-decent games for us, wasn't Henri Camara overall a bit sh1t?

And the fact that the helpful doorman told us we could go to the local Co-op shop a minute's walk away from the Merlin and then come back and drink our cans of beer outside the front entrance to the Merlin. Good work fella. Sadly as driver I didn't benefit, but decided to get in the longest queue for a chip shop i have ever seen in my life (the chippie by the ground); took half-an-hour to get served in there, about the same as the Merlin, truth be told. Clearly neither establishment was prepared for 3,000 of us turning up.

Does anybody know if we've got the whole away end? Tickets have arrived in the post and they're for Row G, a bit low down for my liking, wouldn't mind being able to move further back, which would obviously be easier if we've got the whole end and don't sell it out.

Think I'll be frequenting boozers near London Bridge.

Why oh why do you travel all that way to sit with your arms folded and try to prevent fans from trying to create an atmosphere? It's all well and good to say that there's plenty of room at the sides but it's an awful lot easier to get some noise going if you're in the middle, not least when therer's no roof on the away end.

What is it with Bournemouth fans?
Pat from Poole replied to Thorpe-le-Saint's topic in The Muppet Show
When Saints were in the Prem, for Saints home games the trains from Weymouth would be half-full with Saints fans by the time the trains got to Bournemouth. You'd have quite a few coming from Charmouth, Weymouth, Dorchester and particularly Poole. If any Bournemouth fans happened to be on the train for their home games they'd be really bitter about the number of Saints fans living nearer Bournemouth than Southampton being on the train. Despite our demise, we are still massively more well-supported than them, even though they said we would get creowds of 5,000 in Div 3. They are a bunch of bitters. -

Why would we sell the new Arjen Robben to Bristol Rovers?
