It is a very long season. Many a poor decision have been made in haste.
-
Am I right in thinking that he played for Saints at some point in his career? He has done astonishingly well at Bury, their fans think he is a God. Think he also did pretty well at Rotherham after they went into admin a couple of years ago. There will come a point when he will get a move to a biggish club. Problem is, after all the fanfare of the last 10 days or so, most Saints fans would be very underwhelmed by him. However, I'd take him over the frankly insane Boothroyd any day. I am hoping we get Strachan or Pearson, our two best managers of the last 10 years (including Hoddle) but Knill is probably a far more realistic possibility.

Much LOLage. Rupert boasted that his young Saints were going to storm the League. And still some people defend the clown.

Sol Campbell is on about £100,000 a week at Portsmouth. Dean Windass isn't a bad shout though.

Bookies odds on next Southampton manager

Keegan picked Wise for England in Euro 2000, if memory serves. Think I saw him play against the Germans in Charleroi and possibly also Romania. I too think Wise is an extraordinarily good bet at 33-1. Oldknow wants somebody who knows League 1, Wise knows it very well through his experience at Leeds (not sure if Millwall were in this League or CCC when he was there). -
I sense one or two people would have taken a perverse pleasure from the club ceasing to exist. Nineteen Canteen also suffers from this affliction. Just move on, and look forward to hopefully better times. I didn't go all season last season, partly due to Lowe, partly due to personal circumstances, but admire those who did continue going despite our inevitable relegation. All this sniping doesn't help anybody, I had hoped that a new broom would help to bring unity amongst us.

Post of the month.

Roy Keane is a spineless quitter who made a career out of kicking people. He deserves to be in prison for some of his heinous deeds on a football pitch. He's also an utter utter gobsh1te.

Not so sure. BBC South (inclding Solent) are pretty ITK, Oldknow gave Solent an exclusive interview earlier in the week. They do have some naff commentators (step forward Tony Husband) but in terms of gathering actual facts, they are unrivalled for finding out the truth. We'd better hope for Coppell then.

Draper was a better signing than Rosler. -
I think it's dangerous to assume he'll be gone forever given Oldknow's involvement. Have to hope this Nicola dude cuts the mustard.

Kelvin Davis, 9th July 2009. Faith Restored and History?
Pat from Poole replied to SaintRobbie's topic in The Saints
Yup, 3 seasons. Has to be said, he was pretty shaky in the first season and he did cost us points with some real blunders, but he has improved the longer he has been with us. If we can get a big commanding centre-half to make up for Davis' tendency not to command his penalty area we'll be looking a lot stronger. -
Not good business, but I'll be surprised if it cost more than £50K in compo. It probably would have cost us a lot more to get a goalkeeper.
-
Very interesting shout. Could tie in with this continental style set up which Tony Husband was hinting at on South Today tonight. I have a feeling this appointment will be one which will surprise virtually everybody.
-
There's another club about 15 miles away from his home who are after a manager. I don't think WGS would be too put off by most of their fans viewing him sceptically due to his association with us.

Completely agree. Tony Husband on South Today (who is normally ITK) was tonight hinting at a continental set-up with a director of football. I would be expecting a foreign manager as English managers aren't normally too keen on that. FWIW I would love Strachan but really can't see it. I suspect he'll end up at Fratton if he's living in Hants. -
I'm really hoping that Wright-Phillips doesn't stay. The fact we will be playing at a lower level does not change the fact that his touch is appalling.
-
Would love to agree, but I think it's too big an ask. Even if we weren't starting on -10, it's going to be a tough League and the squad really needs an overhaul. Wotte has started well by looking at Murty from Reading, we need at least another half-a-dozen or so experienced players to make us competitive. I'm far from convinced about Wotte, the next few weeks will be very interesting in terms of which players he tries to sign. He really doesn't need to spend much at all, there's a lot of good experienced players in the lower Leagues who are not expensive. I'd rather put a bet on none of Saints, Charlton or Norwich going back up. Leeds and MK Dons are sound bets for being first and second, they've had a few seasons in League 1 and know what's required.

Question for Alpine and other morons......
Pat from Poole replied to washsaint's topic in The Saints
Burley's management WAS a total failure. We were 15 minutes from relegation with the legacy he left, scandalous given the money he spent. -
It's quite simple. Just get 8 or 9 players in who have decent experience in League 1 or League 2 and aren't ponces who will go missing on an icy pitch in February. It needn't cost much at all. The problem with Wotte is that he keeps going for nonentities from abroad who invariably have one good game and then do nothing. I fear we're going to need a whole new team to even contemplating competing at the higher end of the league (not least a goalkeeper and two players who can regularly score). Do I trust Wotte to get the right players in? Not a chance.
-
Completely agree. We should get rid of all the Dutch set-up. We are destined for a second successive relegation otherwise. Totally underwhelmed after all the hope of the last fortnight.
-
Isn't it -25? Take your point though. Bournemouth only managed to stay up starting on -17 as only two teams went down, and there were truly sh1te teams at the bottom of their League. League 1 looks on the strong side this season.
-
Yup, me too. Window Cleaner, you are an utter turd.
-
Eyal Berkovic? Surely he'd be looking to invest his ill-gotten gains from walking out on us as a gesture of goodwill?
-
What's wrong with Nigel Pearson? Our only decent manager since Strachan. We'd be as lucky as anything if we could get him back, plus it would really annoy Mandaric. Zero chance of it happening though, sadly.
