I'm probably wrong, but I always understood it to be nothing more than a formal request to the employer to be allowed to talk to other clubs about a move, and as the move would be self imposed that certain bonuses etc are lost. Papers today seem to think it's an indication that a player will now refuse to play for the club again. Which is of course crap as the selling club still holds the contract of the player.

The obvious storm kicked up and they backtracked saying "oh, we meant miss him now he has left for World Cup duties of course". Yeah, right...

This. That whole episode looked dodgy at the time, the backtracking about "oh, we meant the World Cup lolz" was paper thin.

I believe the point was, that all they have done is vomit up a facsimile of the Mail article with a claim that they have a source close to Lovren. If that's the case, why didn't the break the story? It's just sloppy churnalism. Not asking for positive spin at all, just proper research into is and not blatant fronting of stories from other agencies without legwork or proof of correctness.
