Basic maths? Academy costs was less than it costs for someone to buy the players from us? From a business sense - profit. From a footballing sense, proud to see these players come through at OUR club. If we get 2/3/4 years out of them as well then they've given us a good service as well. Would you rather we signed a 28 year old for 5m who is average (thats how much it costs to buy a very average prem player these days), or bring a 18 yr old through who basically costs the club nothing who is a great talent.

I think if there is a good chance to give Gaston an opportunity, it's against a side who we're going to have a lot of the ball against. But I do think Davis is underrated on here. He's very important to us when we don't have the ball and pressing. Palace will attack us down the wings with pace and power in Ince and Bolasie, so I do worry a bit about our defensive frailties down the wings with Gaston and JRod either side.

Lambert is our talisman and is coming towards the end of his career. Personally I'm not sure there should be any players who are still playing on the banner, but Morgan and Lallana could be argued to go up there. If Lallana sticks with us for the whole of his career, then he's up there with Le Tiss for me.

It plausible as a plan B, however if I was picking it would be Davis in for Wanyama and Cork and Morgan in DM. Wholeheartedly agree with the comment that he is a great ambassador for the club. You can see why he was given the captains armband, despite him not really being stereotypically 'captain material'. Speaks well, isn't an arrogant to55er. Credit to the club. Our players always seem to have had good training in regards to interviews etc. JWP, Shaw, Lallana, Chambers all speak very well.

Surely there is no reason why they can't both play and have free roles in attack, they just need to have positions when we defend,
