I remember Adkins saying pre-season that Shaw and Ward-prowse were getting burnt out quicker than anyone else (using those sport science bra thingys) and that after giving them a morning off they came back and were the best performers. So it may well be we are trying to just keep him 100% for Wigan.

Indeed. It's all very well saying he isn't match fit...but that isn't going to change leaving him out. Funnily enough you need to play matches to get match fit.
I understand he may be unfit, but for me not having a recognised centreback on the bench is asking for trouble. The only option we have now is sticking Fox in there should Yoshida or Hooiveld pick up an injury.
