I agree that confidence is an issue but also complacency. On lower league teams we often don't approach them with the intensity that we should. However, I take confidence from say Sheff Wed where they came and parked the bus in front of the goal and we managed to break them down. That is a tactic that previously we have struggled with. PS. I don't think an average over two games has much credability.

Are you some kind of sicko?

For automatic, at least one more (or equal and a better gd) than the 3rd placed team. HTH

Because he's a bigger and better fan than most of the posters on here tonight. At least he bothers to go to games.....

People need to be a realistic. We're asking for someone to provide short term cover whilst one of our first choice three recover (two of Morgan, Hammond and Chaplow). As a result our options are limited. Howard would have been interested but, I suspect, only with guaranteed playing time. Other than that it is ageing players looking for a last hurrah, untried youngsters or recovering cripples. We may not have a premier league winning midfield pair, but our options for our league position are pretty good. With Gobern and Morgan out, you can understand why we were looking but if there's no one worth having / who wants to warm the bench, there's no point.

Perhaps they're not wanting to tempt fate

Mods - as the starter of the thread I know this sounds strange, but please delete it. Far too many predictions in here. It'll curse us I tell ye! -
Good article here from the Peterborough's local paper contrasting the run in's for League 1 contenders. Worth a read ( http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/football/peterborough-united/posh_promotion_prediction_posh_to_just_miss_out_on_automatic_promotion_1_2513109 ) I always worry when people start threads predicting our next X results - invariably we end up underperforming against the prediction. I wonder if he is trying to curse us!! I do agree that Bournmouth may struggle though. Too close to call otherwise between Saints / Posh and Hudders in my opinion. --------------- SOUTHAMPTON Current position: 4th Current points: 61 Matches remaining: 12 v Sheff Wed (h) W v Charlton (a) W v Plymouth (a) W v Mk Dons (h) W v Charlton (h) W v Leyton O (a) D v Rochdale (a) D v Bristol R (h) W v Brighton (a) D v Hartlepool (h) W v Brentford (a) D v Walsall (h) W Predicted points: 89 Predicted finish: 2nd Summary: The Saints have the quality and depth in their squad to cope with a busy end-of-season schedule. They also have the experience to cope with the pressure and expectation of being the favourites for automatic promotion. Posh will need ‘favours’ from Charlton, MK Dons and Brighton if they are to pip Southampton to second place. It could well boil down to goal difference and Saints currently lead Posh by seven goals.

Peterborough will win the league. Saints second. Brighton third. B'mouth 6th or 7th (not certain but it will be goal difference) I am sharing this with you now so that you can marvel at my greatness come May. Kind Regards, Alain.

It's not, more a debunking of a statement that Martin was assured on Tuesday. He wasn't - he won hardly anything in the air (after the first 10 minutes) and was caught out of position a number of times (fortunately unpunished). Don't get me wrong he has the ability and physical stature to be a good CB - Tuesday however wasn't a shining example of what he can offer.

Horses for courses. If Fletcher plays for Bournmouth, Jaidi would counteract him. If Symes is fit, then perhaps Martin would be better for pace. Is Seabourne injured?

Who do we have who is really comfortable...
Alain Perrin replied to Legod Third Coming's topic in The Saints
Morgan Schneiderlin is that player. Several games where we've been panicky and he's been brought on and calms things down. He always seems like he has a lot of time on the ball I'd personally prefer him to Chaplow in many circumstances. Chaplow frustrates me - he'll do the hard things well (like a ballsy intercept, or winning a ball he's no right to), then he mucks up the 10 yard pass that follows it. Last night for example, suicidal pass straight to one of their players - better opposition would have punished us - Richard Cr@plow more like. -
I texted Solent to say that "I Disagree about Deano. There can be too many one minute applauses but more in the programme would have been nice." .... And they read it out as DISGRACE about Deano. Kind of missed the point as they sped by on their bandwagon.
-
Pity the death of someone so young is being used as a reason to ***** and moan. Personally I think there are too many one minute applauses, there was a high profile (televised) applause at which Beats and Claus were present. Deano didn't play with any of the current squad, so I think (especially after 10 days) it's better not to jump on the bandwagon. Those who saw him play and chanted Deano, Deano to one of his towering headers should be able to pay their respects without the need for anything organised. RIP Deano

how serious do you need to be as a saints Fan?
Alain Perrin replied to sotonian's topic in The Saints
Simple. Don't pick up rentboys after a disappointing result. Saves the catholic guilt too. -
Colchester 0 - 2 Saints - Post Match Reaction
Alain Perrin replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
Ceteris paribus. Colcester have only lost at home in the league twice this season. It's a very good result. It's that kind of attitude (i.e. "we will walk this league") that leads to a) other teams thinking we're ****ers and b) leads to complacency in the team. There's no such thing as an easy win in League 1, today's result was a good one AWAY from home -

Personally I think the wheels will come off at Bournmouth at some point. Perhaps next week? Fiar play to Brighton though, they keep digging out results. I am hopeful that the depth of our squad (which may not be fantastic but it is better than most in League 1) will pay off as we approach the tail end of the season. -
Ironic that mobile phones led to BWP joining the club and contributed to his leaving the club....

Hmmmm. I got infracted for writing a humorous comment: [importantly, within the context of a thread on libel / defamation] Dronkisaint: "Shouldn't this thread be elsewhere?" Alain Perrin: "The mods will never move this. They're too busy ****** ******" Reaction? Infraction. Deletion. Really? Seriously? You think that was an insult, it's not it's called comedy or irony (but I always get confused on that. Damn you Alanis). What I should have written was: "The mods will never move this. They're too busy looking for their sense of humour" Ridiculous over reaction. Free the Alain Perrin one etc.

Interesting given the libel position : http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/02/28/newspaper_anonymous_commenters/ Open season on [insert name here] defamation...

Perspective. Liebherr's estate is worth £2.5bn (that's 2500 . Saint's current asset value is maybe worth £40m and cost price would be less if you factored in running costs and investment required to move it to the oft mentioned 'next level'. So Saint's is 0.02% of the big man's estate - selling up wouldn't be worth the effort in my opinion.

You can't have it both ways. You either pick a team to counteract the oppositions strengths and exploit their weaknesses, or you pick the same 11 blindly. The way some people on this board go on is hypocritical - one of the biggest criticisms of Pardew was, "no Plan B"; when Adkins changes things, "he should have started like that". I like Barnard and would probably start with him more often, but I also think that his high energy style is helpful when the other team have tired a bit. Adkins also probably has one eye on an impending court case that may cause Barney to be unavailable.

Alain Perrin replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
Second that. There's one result that matters and that's the table at the end of the season. Comparing Pardew vs. Adkins is pointless. We played different players, some home some away, in different teams, under different conditions in a different sequence. So the fact that Pardew got X points after Y games vs. Adkins' Z points after Y games is as useless a stat mid-season as any of the others. We had **** results under Pardew and there were an equal number of wrist slitters on here comparing him to Pearson etc. (probably in some cases, the same people as now complain about Adkins) No one wants to see Adkins go (do they?), no one's got a time machine to recruit Poyet instead of Adkins (have they?) - so unless you've got any better ideas (fostered before the match, not with 20:20 hindsight), perhaps better to just accept the lot this season and hope (pray) we get promoted. Be a supporter, not a t0sser. PS. My opinion, is that one of the biggests causes of our early season problems has been our top goal scorer has looked off the pace - hence our failure to score in several key games. Hopefully there are signs of improvement there, but I want to see RL knocking in his 35 yard freekicks again. -

I chose my words carefully Minty. They are running a mini-business, fair enough, and I'm sure it takes up a fair bit of their time. However I feel that, as a former subscriber, when the subscription was put it place it was presented as necessary in order to keep the show on the road - altruism, rather than entrepreneurial. I'd just like there to have been more transparency. Subscription is just another revenue model (albeit guaranteed and upfront vs. ad revenue drip feed) and they're entitled to run their business the way they see fit, just as I am entitled to put up with Markus and his Plenty of Fish ads - which occasionally I click on to make an invisible contribution. I am surprised that for a vocal population who ***** about a 'ticket tax' that such a rogering was taken without complaint. I don't run a forum and I don't know how many active users (paying or not) this site has or the bandwidth or cycles it demands, but I do work in IT and have significant and relevant hosting experience. Like I say I don't object to money being made. They give up their time and that's capitalism baby. I'd just like honesty and transparency. -

And therein lies the fact that those that pay for this site are being taken for a ride by the admins. Advertising should be sufficient to fund a site of this size, so what is happening to the subscription dollars? Show me the money.
