CLUB, FFS oh hell. OK for Turkish. Investment to reach Europa League level from where we are today. At a crazy guess 200million quid. How to do that? Piece of cake. TV income per year approx 60mil. Ergo Stay in PL for 10 years income = 600mil. Then ensure that 1/3rd of income is NOT blown on salaries etc so you have an investment fund of? Bingo 200 mil. It is NOT about believing it can happen, it is just about thinking forwards in a way that Rupert never did

On trial. He'll fit in well with the culture then.

OK just for you. Google Maps. Enter your postcode. Then go to get directions (Driving) to somewhere exotic or obscure such as Mumbai. It is a ridiculous and long journey and will calculate to take bleedin' ages. However Google Maps will divide it down into a zillion pieces. Each road junction/turning etc. If you get to one junction successfully you have to then get to the next. All sorts of weird sh1t can happen on the road, car wrecks, breakdowns, credit card running out. Thing is if you just read the 2,000 pages of directions once on your home computer you'd get hopelessly lost before you got to Dover AND you would look INCREDIBLY stupid stopping at theM25 services and asking for directions to Mumbai. But NC was "clever", (or IMHO believes he was clever)he bought a GPS. All it is about now is whether he has enough spare batteries and whether he actually managed to download all the maps he will need. Being daft enough to think you could do the drive and buying the GPS still doesn't mean you would actually complete the journey. Also, understanding that he has a GPS and wants to make the journey doesn't stop me from thinking why bother? Thing is HE thinks it can be done and so his decisions (eg flog Luke Shaw for a quick 4mil or not) will be based on what he thinks he needs to make the journey. HOPEFULLY it means we WILL start to retain our best players ass we get to each junction. Time for a lie down

Why not? Why not challenge Man City? I think what we MISS here in this key argument is that the Swiss do things carefully and over time. Abu Dhabi do things NOW. Even professional commentators ask "Is this sustainable?" and historically we saw the Emirates in general catch an enormous dose of the Klap from the financial meltdown 4 years ago. Spend today is great BUT is it SUSTAINABLE? Could they keep going IF the world economy falters? Oil Price falls? The key question to ask is not can we catch Citeh next year it should be "Is there a way to eventually catch them?" Now the answer to that would interest any investor or businessman. I think there is a way, I think NC has seen that and so have the family or they would have bailed. It took Citeh 3 years to win the PL, not 1 after the takeover. More importantly it is FIVE years since Thaksin took them over and started their real journey. There MAY be another way, it MAY take 10 years it may fail but THANK GOD we are at least thinking about THAT instead of Dividends & Board Level bonuses

Good post. IMHO we should stop the bickering and simply accept the fact that just for now, in this moment of time, we have the Leadership of our club who are saying that they want us to continually improve and to aim to be the best. How much farking better is that compared to "aspiring to improve the return on Investment to Shareholders"? Or how much better is it to learn snippets potentially attributed to players who could sign for the club rather than having some Churchillian speech from an Exec/Non Exec pro/Con. Turkish is right, the OP could have been a tad more selective in his choice of words. eg How amazing it is to hear that THE CLUB is saying these things to players. I understand what he intended, he just gave ammunition and got shot down, despite all his attempts to don a Kevlar vest after the initial "Hey guys come shoot at me statement"

Is it just me, or did the way Spain play remind you of anyone...?

Iniesta? Hammond? No contest. Ottery has told us Hammo wins hands down. In fact Hammo's been lined up as a replacement for Iniesta when NC buys him to spearhead our CL challenge in 2013 after we qualify this year -

Agree with a lot of this. The OP would have been more valid if it had said "Why don't England play the Saints way?" Watch the Italy game again and EVERY time Hart received the ball he hoofed it. Yet very few PL teams (or us) actually play that way these days. The first time I really noticed the difference was in SA 2010, and could see that much of what NA was building style wise was similar to the basics of keep the ball. We can only hope that as we bring in better players we are able to become more Spanish and less prone to hoofball when under real pressure -
Bloody Hell. Dune is Alistair Cook. Great job yesterday at the Oval man

Great film Just wrote a review of The Kingdom And the innernet lost it. Arrg It was on the telly, hadn't seen it for a while. Filmed in Abu Dhabi. What a cracking film it is. Not just the story & the incredibly tense finale but the depth to the relationships/suspicion between the two cultures. The location shooting is superb, I don't think global audiences could ever understand how much WORK went on behind the scenes to get all the permissions to film that. To have a shoot out in a Hollywood movie between Gulf Nationals & Americans filmed HERE??!! Also one scene where they closed down the biggest highway for a short shot of a convoy on scabby dhabi Corniche with an Army Apache flying about 50 feet above the road... Superb. Because it hits so many cultural home runs and balances them so well it has to be up there amongst the "most intelligently made" thrillers. Whether it is a long term classic is doubtful. I doubt people will really get it the way we could. Personally? it's an 8.5/10 Well written, well directed and well acted Thriller with a crackingly tense finale

Fine for UK (except maybe a couple of weeks in the summer), but if you are going somewhere for hols with daytime temps in the low 30's? You need a good pair of all leather shoes with them or else ......

Decent parking at Heathrow airport T5 - Any suggestions?
dubai_phil replied to Spudders's topic in The Lounge
You can get one way car rental on line from people like Car Hire 3000 from Southampton to LHR for around 50 quid each way for a Fiat Panda May be cheaper than a hotel stay & their parking fees Pap is the TSW forum Car Rental expert -
Damn, I've seen some weird sh1t in my travels but that's one image that's gonna haunt me for decades

Oh and WHY have M&S stopped selling their Cotton socks? The ONLY standard stuff these days is Cotton Rich. You have to go for those thin (last 2 months) Italian Cotton single packs these days. (Note - never wear Cotton Rich socks (ie those with Polyester) on holiday. The fashion angle is totally outdone by the stench of sweaty feet) HTH

Excellent. That's the looking good side sorted. Now one suggestion is to look for some equally good quality Dryfit Polo's for Daytime wear (assume you are going somewhere warm) Dryfit technology in Golf Shirts these days is superb and for day time wear avoids the walking around all wet issues that the Cotton has (but you need Cotton for looking good in the air-con'd bars/restaurants). Giordano do good cheap and technically almost OK kit, but Cutter & Buck, Ashworth, Nike & occassionally Adidas have good Dry Fit Polos without much in the way of annoying logos. The Greg Norman range is a bit too golfy and the IPS range (Ian Poulter) is just too ghey

Yes but depends if you join a class action in the US quickly enough (see that blog post link) more than UK libor was affected according to that hence class actions already starting in the US

Abu Dhabi Sovereign Wealth fun. Oh how us Dubaieans are lol'ing at them now... Ok well actually we're checking the local Government deposit guarantee scheme to see if it's any safer moving our Company account from Barclays & mine from HSBC into local accounts But in other news the 50% plunge in Barclays share price in the last year could mean they are more careful about what they pump into Citeh. Perhaps we (Saints) will overtake them this season after all....
-
Woosh. I had meant we could have Cork & Butland.....
-
Hmm I suppose by the time the season starts we could have two Team GB players in our squad at SMS

As the blog says. Potentially in dodgy priced loans. The claims for damages on that could ruin any of the banks. IF you were fraudulently overcharged for something and were liable to claim compensation I assume like everyone else on the planet you would. And while bored if they ALL go down at the same time over the damages claims, ain't no way UK Gov can guarantee ALL of the cash deposited in ALL of the banks - so yeah be bored but you could also be broke. A LOT of loans in the US were based on these rates. So they are liable for claims in the US. We all know that their courts don't award ambulance chaser amounts when it comes to punitive damages
