Good plan, but didn't some of the banks want to do this instead of the whole takeover thingy and it actually takes a long time to put together? No expert, just something I read

Ah bless, thanks for finding that FF. Oh how young and naive we all were in those days when we had our own hair, teeth and hopes....

Before the thread fell into the old admin relegation issue, you raised a point about Davies and Forest. Don't be so sure.... Forest fans have two really big issues with his appointment, firstly he managed the hated Derby, and secondly, Forest have a footballing culture which like us is alien to "hoofball" It may actually have hastened their demise unless he gets them playing football really quickly Good Blog on the Telegraph about it. http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/mikenorrish/blog/2008/12/31/billy_davies_already_fighting_on_two_fronts_at_nottingham_forest

Once upon a time we had a clearly stated policy that we would ONLY buy a player IF he was BETTER than the player we currently had in a particular position. Oh how we long for those days now. Who exactly is Smith better than? So yes the OP is right, our recruitment strategy is not clear at the moment. We did the quantity instead of quality thing back in WGS's days and look where that eventually got us to.....

Think Pekhart has gone back. Dear socuting teams PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE find a proper CCC centre half

Medium sized Steak & Guinness Pie for dinner (8pm kick off here) 4 pints of Guinness 2 large Bacardi & Cokes 3 Bullfrogs after to numb the pain of the abuse in the pub. EoA will probably manage 6 pints without bursting and insist on a Jaeger Bomb or two

Was it just me who noticed that this chap seemed to live in an awfully big house? So man in big house tells the poor under-privileged kids how to run their short lives and become suicide bombers....... As for the rest of it. Hezbollah don't seem to have the same amount of problems in the "other part" of Palestine. What the Israeli's are doing is VERY not right, but as others have said, when living next to Lion, don't poke it with a stick, but WHY are they doing the poking still? Oh and where did Hamas come from? Yep they got ELECTED! So in REALITY it is actually the fault of those who insisted that the ME region held ELECTIONS and had DEMOCRACY, because they demanded elections, the public elected Hamas. Nice work guys, leave this place the fook alone the lot of you. Of course, no mention in the press as to who pulls the puppet strings of Hamas and are equally responsible for the loss of lives..... Iranians, Syrians and the Yanks all having a dig at each other by proxy and poor bl**dy civilians get killed AS USUAL

I think providing outdoor heating for smokers is a disgrace. Just think of all those patio heaters around the UK burning up fossil fuels and adding to the demise of the global climate and of course diminishing the reservoirs of fuel for all our poor children and grandchildren. Just let us have a CHOICE between a smoking pub or a non-smoking pub and save the world! winky irony thingy

Taking out the padding, I agree we need a centre back and have done ALL season Sort of a 6ft 5in version of Perry with pace, brains, massive upper body strength, impeccable fitness record, never gets injured and never gets suspended, of and of course, CCC experience and strong leadership qualities. As I don't play CM 09, anyone got any ideas?

Oh to dream.... But in reality, it's another televised game and we ALL know what happens with them. Perhaps the worrying thing this time is that instead of us lot down here sitting quietly in our little corner of sorrow with our small screen, un-noticed by the masses in the pub, this time we'll be on the big screen with commentary and surrounded by Mancs and will get all the jibes as well. It's a lousy job, but I guess we're all going to do it.

Right, we had our "sombre New Year celebrations" here in Dubai and may that be the last time this year that such a mood prevails. (Mind you was still a good night out!) Let's hope we get through January without too much devastation in both the club and the world economy and have a good 2009. Happy New Year one and all

Although I heard a rumour that we didn't put a sell-on clause on our only big sale while he was out - namely Kenwyne Jones - who could be worth some money one day... But it was only a rumour, probably from a Scooby type. But if we sold Bridge for 8mil and Chelsea get the same for him I guess no profit on the deal means nothing for us.. Googlers?
-
Rumoured to be subject of a bid from Man City for around 8mil. Can't remember what we sold him for or if we may get a week's worth of cash-flow in as a share of the profit. Anyone know?

Correct in most ways. People should be able to have an environment where they are not subjected to other people's bad habits. But at the same time, IMHO there SHOULD be options for the smokers as we have here. A pub SHOULD be able to be Smoking only (and only employ smokers), (so I don't go to the non-smoking bars!) but it isn't that critical an issue in my life to get worked up about. Where it DOES become an issue is if like me you fly a lot on business is at airports. You have an 8 hour flight, then a 2 hour transfer at Heathrow - man THAT is an issue! Even here in Dubai you get people flying from Aus to the new terminal before going to Europe - 14 hours on a plane then 3 hour wait with no smoking and then 8 hours or so into Europe - no wonder you get air rage incidents! Anyway this is a weird thread, How come nobody has blamed Lowe for the legislation in the UK?
-
Good idea but for health and safety reasons, players could come into contact with the butts. So a much better idea at the moment would be the goal line which we attack in the second half........
-
Ah ha, so you've finally been outed - you obviously work for the Echo and do a test run on here with posts on issues the day before :yawinkle:

Another mail order horror story as the web description fails to meet reality. But he said he was a successful, well liked businessman exclaimed the duped bride

The trouble is WHERE do you put a secure smoking area? You have 4 sides to the ground, you can't have people walking round from the Northam to say the Chapel for a quick fag, so you end up having to build 2 or 3 secure "pens" out in the car park. Those of course will cost money which at the moment the club doesn't have. Cost for planning, health & safety approval, security/stewards to man it, emergency entrance etc. Then it gets in the way of an official "safety exit". So all in all it becomes something that costs us 50k or more and that's the salary of a couple of youngsters. Was lucky enough to go to a Test Match in Sydney once - there they had no smoking, but had built their turnstiles away from the main stadium leaving open areas where you could go for a smoke. SMS never had enough space (or thought). So yep, I found that a round of nicotine gum between the lads at half time is the only way. Mind you, may be why our players get so edgy towards the end of the second half - maybe they all need a fag as well!
-
An eloquent summary of just about everything that has been posted on here of late. The next 32 days are without a doubt THE most critical in the club's history. Survival mode time, not grand experiments And am I the only one who worries (amongst other things) that Saga didn't rattle in the goals in Denmark yet he is our big hope?

+1 oh except substitute bbq at home with mates for Bedes Lea -
:yawinkle: But apart from that Bush/Blair/Brown and what they have done for their "countries" vs Shk Mo Simply no contest even with Poo on the beaches and the labour camp stuff.....

Now that is not a wise thing to do or say, ever Overall he is a far wiser leader than the collection of numpties who've led the world into it's current mess!

For the organiser of an official event something like Revoking of Alcohol and Entertainment licence for a period of up to one year, (ie total destruction of your business), fine of a min of 6,000 quid, min one month jail and deportation..... Having a disrespectful house party with music too loud that offends the neighbours much the same potential fine and stuff. BUT having a sensible party with sensible music - no problem, quite normal during Ramadan Really depends on whether you understand and respect where you are or if you're an a*8hole. Plenty of them in UK get into trouble as well being too wild. Also plenty of other nationalities here have a**holes as well, not just a p*ssed Brits thing
-
lol Funnily enough back in the early minutes of 2000 I heard a tale of a mate.... Like I said parties there are, events there ain't....
-
For those at home it's no big deal. Around the millenium we had Ramadan clashing with NYE and so there was no entertainment - just posh dinners and "subdued music". So we all had house parties with mates. This one is different, the place had REALLY been behind the curve with the recession and all that with every hotel trying to outdo their competitors with BIGGER and BETTER events. So you have restaurants with "International DJ's@ charging 1000 Quid for a 5 course dinner (I swear) but of course now - no celeb. Lot's of places have flown bands and the likes in from Europe, spend thousands on fireworks and the like and everyone will sit around and go "oh, sombre New Year greetings to you". Them that have paid for "entertainement" including a meal will not get a refund, just a dead dull "International Buffet" The rest of us - we'll be at home doing what we had actually planned - a nice subdued bbq with mates, a shed load of booze and genteel celebrations at midnight, 3am (for our European mates) and 4am for us Brits. Wasn't the cancellation that hurt business it was the lack of notice and a lot of people have lost even MORE money in one night than they did all year... eg All those thousands who flew out of freezing Blighty et al for their dream party on a beach.... oops
