  1. Interesting The article states it is a hostile takeover People down here like to run their own publicity machines at their own time The "investors" did not want a replacement for Jewell appointed And they appoint Clough today I have to say that is one of the most eloquent ways of saying fook you that I have seen for some time...
  2. A nice whimsical post GM, of course totally unsuited to this environment on TSW. I like others felt we were just never at the races, they let us make some pretty passing patterns for the first ten minutes and then that was it, game over. For it to be enjoyable for ALL spectators, there has to be some chance that "the two sides make a game of it" BUT, I was watching the game with a Rangers supporting mate who actually enjoyed the game as he said although we had no idea what we were doing, he enjoyed the game and in his words "it actually sped by" The repsonses on here though show that the age gap is where the difference between appreciating the tribal aspects and the athletic performance is most seen. Unfortunately even though I'm an old f*rt these days, I'm still tribal enough to actually feel let down by our performance and naivety on Sunday (even if relieved that we kept it down to 3) and I feel that the only reason Man U showed you and others something to appreciate was that we were so bad at stopping them doing it... So do we REALLY ever give up the tribal aspect? No, disagree with that concept GM. In fact when you leave home and live so far away, maybe if anythingthat spirit of belonging or needing to belong becomes stronger with age
  3. Nice, romantic idea, but with the squad we have at the moment and the position we are in we need EXPERIENCE. Too many people in the football side of the club on a learning curve - could be a great idea medium/long term but right now if we do change we need somebody who already knows what to do and can help everyone else that we can't afford to get rid of.
  4. Think that sums it all up as to how we feel :smt012
  5. There is a fundamental flaw in the logic of LC buying out MW LC has money, but not an endless supply. The club is skint and needs money urgently LC would still have to fork out lots of money to buy out MW, leaving him less to put in to the club Changing the deckchairs and having no money hasn't worked 3 times now Still, if the pound keeps falling, the 15 dirhams EoA & I found down the back of our sofas might get us somewhere when we hit Blue Square
  6. Sorry, I was referring to my post back at the begiining of this whole mess which was generally supportive of the concept but worried about the balance. The bit about the experiment - I explain The Concept of creating an environment where you bring your own players through I agree with - BUT any team MUST have a backbone of experience on the pitch AND off it. So if I look back I guess I and maybe others naively thought that we would keep one striker.... Wotton would be the "midfield brains" Svennson & Perry would form the backbone with Davis behind them Obviously it hasn't worked and our eggs were in the wrong basket in regards to who we were relying on in that area LTG's comment is in line with my feelings on the type of players, Skacel is trying his best now but then we bring in another young LB... and have how many left sided midfielders in the squad now?
  7. Actually he was sitting above him.... There was a quick clip of him telling his boss what was happening on the pitch, right after the clip of LM & LC sitting in the roof looking gruntled.
  8. I go back to my feelings at the start of the season. In general I think the "experiment" is a good idea... BUT To allow the kids to develop the team needs BALANCE. We are in desperate need of leadership on the pitch and in the club, of experience and wise old heads who can change to a plan B when plan A does not work. Good footballing brains, experienced, canny players about to start their trade as a coach, to help the kids, we are crying out for them (and no, I don't class Euell & BWP in that category) A Teddy Sheringham type up front for DMG to feed off, a Dennis Wise type in midfield and a well, apart from Perry & James in spells today, a defence. A savvy wise old head manager with the up and coming total football head coach, and as CM says above, a simple transfer policy - we ONLY buy players who are better than what we have, we NEVER buy squad fillers - the youngsters can do that Let's hope that Chelsea feel they owe us morally after Cork turned us down and send us Terry or someone on loan..... We are in the "time for a serious hand on the tiller to adjust course" phase of the great experiment
  9. Glad that's over, useful that Riley can take some of the blame. Red card local commentary on tv say very hard, yes his studs were up when he went in BUT he touched the ball away AND turned his ankle & studs away before he made any contact, naive and stupid and not gonna win an apeeal but. Perry tackle of the season early on, KD superb, Lancashire not as bad as I feared but, and James got credit on telly for giving Nani a hard time. For the first 12 minutes we passed the ball around and probably had about 55% possession, then they decided to play and that was that. Laughable defending at the corner, Schneiderlin at least looked like a footballer when he came on, McLaggon is not a centre forward. Summary KD man of the match, not as embarrassing as previous tv games but no, this style of football is not going to do it. Losing Patterson anyone could see we would never outpass them and only hoofball and hope would get anything going. Glad I didn't pay 185 quid for a ticket. Did any Man U player actually break sweat?
  10. Dammit, woke up with a buzz as well this morning. Haven't felt this way for a long time. I know what will happen, but still just for a moment we are back in a global spotlight and everyone expects us to get battered, but just for a moment for a few minutes it's all about that FA Cup magic. And after that reality can bite again Good luck lads COYR!
  11. He did Euell Oh.
  12. Sorry will re-phrase if it helps The club was in a mess financially..... Was NOT commenting on history though, just that the minute he sat down at his desk, the club was in a mess.. Either of which I think covers it.
  13. She didn't have to go off to London to get locked into a house with loonies for22 days..... I'd have locked her in here for 22 days AND let her watch the match......
  14. Strewth just heard LM on the radio over HERE! Sounded like it was a clip from BBC World but didn't talk much about the problems just '76. Didn't know Lawrie Sanchez was on our books as a schoolboy then either. Wonders will never cease
  15. Interesting point, forgetting the history for a moment, the club was in a mess and the coming season was looking horrific even before it started. So the idea of one person taking the brunt and hoping that it gave the rest of the club & playing staff time to sort out the mess is not a bad one. But in reality? No I don't think he was set up by the shareholders, and I think the possibility of his deliberately shouldering all the hatred and divisions to shield the club is one concept too far for me. But I think he probably knew coming back would be bad, just probably never realised HOW bad, both in terms of what he found when he came back in and how some of the decisions have worked out.
  16. Peter Osgood and Charlie George deserve mentions as being great players who played up front for us (allbeit occassionally in the case of Charlie) and so of course does the McDougall/Boyer partnership which was wonderful to watch but it has to be............ The nomination is Mick Channon - Right Side of a two, he was always better on that side which leaves Big Ron alongside in the next mnominations
  17. Oh come on, you know that is simply NOT true. There is no way that he would play CB. Centre Forward yes, CB no. (Didn't he play up front in a testimonial???)
  18. Ouch. The Yahoo headline to that interview hurts Ferguson challenges misfiring United to run riot at Southampton http://uk.news.yahoo.com/18/20090103/tuk-ferguson-challenges-misfiring-united-2c0ffe7.html Mind you a Man U manager said that sort of thing once before...... But we had experienced players then
  19. More like sanity has broken out. People were paying more money for an apartment or villa that wouldn't be built for 4 years than an empty new one. So no, Dubai hasn't gone bust, simply that a lot of very greedy and very stupid people have. Much the same as everywhere else on the planet. The total Government spending of the entire UAE is around 40bil a year, and yet a private developer announced a plan for an 18bil demolition and rebuild of about half of the entire city of Dubai - all on borrowed money - insane. Compare that same percentage into the UK it would mean a SPECULATIVE property development plan worth 225 BILLION pounds. Enough to improve even Liverpool We're a lot better down here than UK, but nobody is being stupid in spending their money on "insane projects" any more and are certainly not borrowing any more. Oh and for the Fulthorpe guys - Kuwait IS the place having real trouble at the moment

2 Things here Phil. 1. He knew his house was about to be missiled and chose to stay there with his family and die a martyr. Not very smart, and a tad selfish too some might say but no double standards as you suggest. and 2. Don't poke the Lion ! Please don't forget that Israel is ILLEGALLY occupying Palestinian land. In World War 2 do you think that the French Resistance should have lived alongside their Lion too or was that somehow different ? Come and live down here and you see the proper side of the whole story, not the neo-con US version, although the UK version is slightly more balanced. The two state solution is the way to go, but it won't as long as the Israeli's have the support of you know who to keep taking the p*ss and the factions in Palestine have the support of (mainly) the Iranians who like nothing better than to keep stirring things up. The mess is tragic, but it keeps being stirred by idiots from outside. One day it will all blow up in our faces
  21. Jack Cork is an excellent footballer. Better in midfield as he isn't quite "commanding" enough in defence We have a zillion midfielders If it wasn't on the OS I'd almost think somebody had a plan, but it was so it's probably spin Unless, just maybe, possibly, they found a bricksh*thouse CB who's 6ft 5in, does 100m in 11 seconds, leaps like a salmon and has a footballing brain Oh yeah he did = John Terry lol at the irony in your OP Nick
  22. IMHO If he goes it means we're in more trouble than just worrying about finding 11 players to fulfill a fixture
  23. Oi! Leave Camels out of this Meanwhile the next big let down, Paul Allen's yacht spotted in Southampton Parked up for a quick get away while he checks out their training ground before he buys the Skates
  24. Alpine in backing Rupert shocker (I know you weren't really but hey!)
  25. Pretty poor excuse to be honest, let the b*ggers land themselves for a change. Actually probably safer than a disgruntled EoA on the radio.... See you Sunday.
