He must have so much dirt on Johnson that it's impossible to sack him. And if he doesn't want to resign then he'll stay in his job. I get the part about him staying in completely separate accommodation to his parents, but he was in a car with a small child, presumably for at least 5 hours, who could quite easily have caught the virus and passed it on to people in the risk group due to their age. Mind you even if he does leave he'll end up back in a job within 6 months or so. Priti Patel got sacked and now she has one of the most important roles in Government.

American scientists saying that introducing their lockdown a week earlier would have saved approximately 36000 deaths. Obviously there's different circumstances in each country but that's just over a third of their current total, so potentially we could be looking at 10000 less here if we'd introduced ours a week before. I wonder what difference that would have made here? The Cheltenham festival and other events going ahead that weekend may have made a pretty big difference considering the high rate of transmission at the time.

Agree with this. Ignore the media headlines about unions and militant teachers, most of them want to get back to proper work. My partner works in a special needs school and they have to carry out a risk assessment for each individual child. Then they have to ring every parent. It's taking absolutely ages. Once that's done they have to implement it all. It's not a case of reopening the school and rocking up on 1st June to see what happens!

Yes, there's quite some concern about the extremely low number of current referrals from schools and other early year providers. Often it's these places where information about abuse is initially disclosed. Without these, as you say, there will be a lot of sickos getting away with all sorts of disgusting abuse.
-
Exactly. My partner has been going in. Most of the teachers at her school have been fine. There's been a few who have come up with dubious reasons for not working, and some others who have legitimate health reasons for being off. I'm sure most places have the same mix of resilient staff and some who will say anything to not go in.

Does everyone who finds Mrs Brown's Boys funny need to be tested for a loss of taste?

Sack off the League Cup for a start, that will allow for more midweek league games. No FA Cup replays either. The main need for those is that the smaller clubs get a money spinning replay but if it's all behind closed doors that's less necessary.

I'm fully in favour of this approach: https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/fc-seoul-apologise-for-filling-empty-stands-with-sex-dolls-1.4256104?mode=amp&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

If the downward trend continues then in a couple of weeks the figures should start to dip below 100 on some days. We're obviously making progress in the right direction.

From my experience it's mainly groups of kids, probably aged 14-18 who are the worst culprits. Just walked back through the park and there about 30 of them on the skate ramps together or sat about in groups. If you drive 90 minutes to the beach, as the family on the news did last night, and then get annoyed that there are loads of people there you need to have a look at yourself really. It's like anything really, you'll always get people who stick to the rules and others who disobey them.

This Government has been in power for 10 years. Is that a short amount of time? It would be nice if all parties could work together. Believe it or not there are some sensible MP's out there on all sides who would probably quite like to do that, and in some cases (select committees being a good example) they do. Sadly a lot of the others are in it for their own self interest, to swell the coffers with consultancy jobs and look after their mates. Maybe they don't really care enough about the wider public to join forces and make the best decisions for society as a whole.

Now "below 1" that should have read.

I wouldn't actually be surprised if the Daily Mail now includes an article on Starmer's donkey sanctuary to make the MoS story look silly.
-
What's funny is you not realising the Mail on Sunday is a different newspaper to the Daily Mail. The current MoS editor is Ted Verity, a staunch Brexiteer and Labour hating Tory. Geordie Greig, as per the article above, was the previous MoS editor who is now in charge of the Daily Mail. Greig was a remainer, hence the MoS previous support for the UK to remain in Europe. He was still a Tory, but not an ardent Labour hating one. The MoS was well known for running stories which rubbished Daily Mail articles from earlier in the week. This was all mainly due to a power struggle between Greig and previous Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre. Hope that explains it for you.
-
You do realise the previous editor who was driving the Mail's remainer stance throughout Brexit has left don't you? It has a totally different editorial stance now.
-
The Mail on Sunday's article about Starmer owning land worth a load of money is straw clutching of the highest order. They must be desperate if this is the best they can come up with.

2 metres Footballers, and the rest of us mere mortals
The Cat replied to SaintRichmond's topic in The Saints
Here's the government advice for people working outside: "You must maintain social distancing in the workplace wherever possible. Where the social distancing guidelines cannot be followed in full in relation to a particular activity, businesses should consider whether that activity needs to continue for the business to operate, and, if so, take all the mitigating actions possible to reduce the risk of transmission between their staff." Footballers on the pitch cannot follow the guidance in "full relation" however subs, and staff on the side of the pitch can. Whether anyone agrees or disagrees that football should be played is irrelevant, because as long as the "activity needs to continue for the business to operate" then it can. -
Everyone knew about him from a young age. There was no way he'd have signed for us. Maybe we made enquiries, who knows. Wouldn't have made any difference though.

Where I work a whole bunch of people on one scale moaned they weren't getting paid enough. Their job role was reviewed and it was decided that in actual fact they were getting paid too much.

Weird double post. Didn't think the first one sent.

Our players would barely notice the difference from the normal atmosphere at St Mary's. At least they won't have to hear the sound of seats clacking up continuously from the 80th minute onwards. (Prepares for abuse)

He'll cost about £30000000000 whenever Dortmund sell him.
