  1. Is anyone else watching the current series of The missing on BBC1? Two parents dealing with the aftermath of a child (boy) going missing abroad (France). Ring any bells.? IMO the appearance of the parents bears more than a coincidental resemblance to Kate and Gerry. Wonder if it was deliberate?
  2. Some good memories there, in some ways a perfect example of less being better. Solent was great if you were at home/work but if you were at the game it just wasn't cool to be seen clutching a transistor radio to your ear to check on other scores. (Smartphones with internet access? Not even a dot on the imagination horizon, we'd only recently got rid of B&W tv). So on the walk from the ground after the match the trick was to try and position yourself within hearing distance of one of the "uncool" with his radio tuned to Solent, as they would always be guaranteed to pass on the scores as they came in to loudly all around them (whilst strangely always seeming to be walking on their own). Failing that it was a race to get to the Radio Rentals shop, somewhere between where Cafe Parfait is now and the old Tyrell & Green, to watch the teleprinter and Final Score on the tvs in the window.
  3. No, It's not just you.
  4. And there it is
  5. Thanks for taking the time to post that. Informative and well written. I've now added your blog to my subscription feed service so plenty more like that please.
  6. Amended it a bit for you, although it may need changing again after the next international. Woke up this morning feeling fine Knowing our right back is Nathan Clyne Doesn't play for England, we all know that he should Someone tell them Clyney is bloody good..

    Update:

  9. One of my favourite books is Simon Inglis' The Football grounds of Great Britain. He uses a real passion when describing each ground. Amazing how many have disappeared in the 30 years since it was written, including many I had been to. Makes me wonder how he would describe some of the soulless kit form stadia of today.
  10. I've been lucky enough to get amongst the stones at Stonehenge. You can pre-book an after hours visit for when all the other visitors have gone home - no idea how often and numbers are very limited. Gives you a totally different "feel" for them than simply gawping at them from behind the rope. Woe betide anyone who touches them though, I absent-mindedly leant against one whilst taking a photo and you'd think I was attempting to steal the crown jewels from the reaction of security. Agree with you about Avebury Ring and the West Kennet Long Barrow, along with the nearby Silbury Hill. Despite being less well known far more interesting - and accessible - than Stonehenge.
  11. On a not unrelated subject, is there anything more scary than getting up for a **** in the middle of the night, leaving the light off so as not to wake anyone, starting the steady stream and NOT hearing that oh so familiar tinkling splashing sound? You know it's landing somewhere but no idea where. The only clue is whether you're feet are getting wet or not. Do you need to go up? down? left? right? What's the best technique for getting yourself back "on target"? I favour the spiral approach but this can quickly get out of control if the target isn't located quickly.
  12. Those are fine morals Tokes, spitting is far worse than peeing. Any contact wearer will tell you that there are times your lens is either dirty and/or dry and needs a bit of added "moisture", which might not be readily available from the usual sources. As my optician - a very conservative looking woman in, I would guess, her mid sixties - once said to me " Never ever take the lens out and spit on it, spit contains so many germs you risk an eye infection. You'd be better off ****ing on it, at least thatt's sterile". I was unsure if she meant whilst the lens was in or out of the eye, she declined my request for a demonstration but I did gain a free bottle of wetting solution. As for the shower, doesn't everyone? But only whilst taking a shower, I wouldn't go in there specifically to have a **** (unless there was a queue)
  13. He paid money from his own pocket to prevent them being hit with a transfer embargo. Doesn't necessarily make him a good manager but shows he has the commitment needed to become one. He was doing everything there from changing players diets to picking up dog **** from the training ground (which I must admit seems a total change of character from his. seemingly, arrogant playing days.) Definitely deserves a chance of another job somewhere sometime. http://www.just-football.com/2014/09/death-of-a-love-affair-how-james-beattie-charmed-accrington-stanley/
  14. I think it depends on how you look at it. The person on benefits will receive more by working. The high earner will have more taken from him by working harder .
  15. I vaguely a quick chorus of "I'm singing in the rain" which would morph into some weird dance routine always resulted in someone finding themselves dangling at the end of a long arm of the law. Can't remember exactly how it went, or the relevance. Clockwork Orange reference possibly?
  16. If you can't see the irony in that yourself I'll point it out for you. "Sorry little boy but you can't wear that monkey suit because you are black. "
  17. Christ you talk some nonsense at times What could possibly go wrong? Nothing except narrow minded people trying to "see" a problem where none exists. Next someone will be pointing out the boys are shown in the costumes that appeal to boys and the girls in the ones that appeal to girls Should they have insisted on some cross dressing as well for the photo? Or maybe no children at all, just dummies of indeterminate sex and a neutral colour?
  18. Interview with Lou Macari about the programme here (includes a few spoilers if you intend watching it) . Always thought of him as a bit of a **** but he came across as a really nice guy in the film.
  19. Excellent. One of the best tv programmes (although seemed to be classed as a film in listings) I've seen for a long long time. Defy anyone not to enjoy it. Deserves to win multiple BAFTAs .
  20. Go to go with that one. Was singing exactly that to myself last night, couldn't remember what the original was for the life of me.
  21. There's one thing none of us know except those in possession of club's data, how many different casual fans attend and how often. Keeping figures simple let's say for arguments sake a 30k crowd consists of 20k ST holders 5k regulars who attend all games but for whatever reason won't/can't buy an ST and 5K "casuals". How many games do those casuals attend per season?. If it was just one game each per season then that's 95k different casual fans over the season. If it's (more realistically) 5 games per season on average that's 19k casual fans. Those casuals are the ones the club should be aiming at if they want to increase attendances. Increase the casual fans average attendance from 5 games to just 8 per season and suddenly the stadium isn't big enough.
  22. Trying to get my head round how we have approx 15% more accurate passes whilst having around 10% less possession. Must have spent a lot of time last season with defenders aimlessly wandering about the edge of our own area with the ball at their feet. Or a lot of Lallana dribbles running into dead ends.
  23. Masturbation for 30 years ?!? That deserves some kind of medal not locking up.
  24. 8th again. With one more CB signing which looks almost done and assuming one more striker I don't think we are much worse (if at all) than last year as a squad and don't see anyone that finished below us strengthening sufficiently to think they'll do any better.
  25. I can only remember a first half post hitting as well. Although standing under West Stand Archers corner spent most of the second half watching Doc Martens coming through our brand new security fence so may have missed one near the end. Guess we'll never know if it was a genuine fix but definitely neither side seemed interested in winning. If memory serves me right even if we had won Brighton still had to win 5-0 to go up .
