CONFIRMED - Mane joins Liverpool for £34m + £2m addons
Wurzel replied to toe_punt's topic in The Saints
Nobody came out of that game with any honours but it looked like we were playing with 10 men. I can't recall a single constructive contribution from Mane in the whole 90 minutes. He has pace, but if he can't use it in the right areas, control a ball, pass it to one of his one team or shoot on target then that pace is pretty irrelevant. -
Start throwing tables and chairs around (or worse) in a pub in town on a Friday night you'll find yourself refused entry to that and every other pub in Southampton in the future. Might not be a legal banning order issued by a court but it would have the same effect.

Just bite the bullet and ask for somewhere to watch the Chelsea game, they'll probably come up with plenty of options.

BIB Only at their discretion and in certain circumstances. When you say your mate made hundreds has he simply seen the value of his holding increase or has he actually received back cash more than he put in? They're not the same thing. Sounds a fun game but not something I'd want to be risking real money in. But good luck with it, I'd be happy for you if you prove me wrong.

After taking a quick look at the site: 1) It's NOT a pyramid scheme as some above are suggesting, nothing like one. 2) You're explanation above about trending in the media is how players win the Daily Buzz, for which the daily winner receives a 20p "dividend". It has no effect on the players price which is solely based on supp;ly and demand for tat player. 3) It uses EBay as an example to clearly explain that when you want to sell a player you have to wait till another player wants to buy him (as in an EBay sale, simply listing him for sale gets you nothing till a buyer comes along) . You can't simply decide to "cash out" and guarantee getting funds at any given moment. So in true Dragons Den stylee " ... so for that reason , I'm out"

To be fair how many of us would jump at the chance to take in a Barcelona/Madrid game whilst in Spain or Dortmund/Bayern if in Germany. The half and half scarfs are just wrong though.

Don't get me wrong, I quite agree with that. What I meant was the people that make these decisions probably only ever attend games in the best best seats and/or executive boxes and probably as neutrals. I'm betting they are aware of the atmosphere as background noise but have no perception of who is creating it or how. They've probably witnessed La Liga and Seria A games with 99% home support and think it could be replicated here. You're right, it wouldn't work here (maybe Palace and Middlesbrough would give it a go), the crowd culture is still significantly different here (if not as much as it used to be)
-
The powers that be have probably been watching games from La Liga where away fans are minimal if not non existent in most matches, yet don't seem to have any worse an atmosphere than most PL games.

Try this ...... yes it worked. think it's a "fan fiction" effort but I like it, very 70s retro. WIll we have new sponsor next year?

Would Mané be that big a loss?. His quickfire hat trick apart again how many has he scored and how many assists? He's exciting when he's on the ball but little end product ever seems to come from it. His "dribbling" skills remind of Woody's quote about Buzz Lightyear, "that's not flying that's falling with style". To me he has the appearance of someone almost tripping over the ball but somehow still managing to propel it in the direction he's running, whilst not having the slightest clue what he intends to do with it. If anyone offers silly money I'm sure he could be replaced with someone far more consistent.

When he was just a little boy Charlie said " Mother what will I be?" Will I be Thatcham? will I be Poole? Here's what she said to him Wash your mouth out son You'll play for Southampton Then they'll sell you to Liverpool For twenty million pounds

Good article (as always). Think the question in Q7, re Stekelenburg's conceded goals should not be would Forster have saved them, but would Gazzaniga have done so. With FF out for a while what a confidence booster it would have been for PG to have an extended run in the side, and even allowing for an early spell of nerves I doubt we'd have seen much difference between him and MS over a long period. Plus we'd have improved one of our own (i.e. not a loanee) for the future, maybe creating a healthy in-club competition for the #1 spot.

Is the Saturday morning team meeting not the one where the team is announced, tactics discussed etc? Difficult to plan for the game when one of those involved isn't there to listen and/or have an input. Guess they could have sent someone up to his room to fetch him but a) he's done it before and b) what message does that send to the rest of the squad who do take the responsibility to be there on time. Think if I were in RK's shoes I'd have done the same and gone ahead and pick/plan from those in front of me, that line-up in all reality should still have been strong enough to win the game. Agree about Wanyama, I'd love to see a Billy Big ******** dumped in the reserves, not just in his case but at any club, just to send a message to the highly paid prima donnas that a contract is a contract.

Wonderful. Perfect viewing for a quiet afternoon at work. Thanks for sharing.

Wasn't there a birds/animals link to every opponent in the 2003 cup run as well? So we start this time with Eagles ....

I'd say it's a mixture of both. Doesn't matter if half the ground want to sing it's hard to for them all to join in with a fast song as it's over before it reaches them (how many times are Blocks 38/39 and 1/2/3 singing together?). BUT you're right as well, too many nowadays just can't be arsed. BTW even the demographics don't always fit. My wife was sat with me on Wednesday. Female, old(ish) - she won't be reading this I hope - occasional visits. She joined in with loads of songs, seemed to be loving Lovren You're a ****, she had no idea who Lovren was but was joining in anyway

Said it before and I'll say it again. For a song to spread it has to be relatively slow with at least one longish note for people to latch on to. How many of ours spread more than a couple of blocks. If we're lucky (and including a few old ones) OWTSGMI Slow version We're by far the greatest team When I was just a little boy Lallana Song (or anything to Sloop John B) Marion Pahars (or anything to that tune) Dusan Tadic All fit the above criteria. Chants or fast songs simply can't spread, acoustic effects make it near impossible to get in time if more than a couple of blocks away. Wembley for th JPT was weird, the same song seemed to come from two different directions and got killed before it got going. Same with other clubs, thinking of some of the classic football songs YNWA Blowing bubbles Delilah (Stoke, what's that all about?) Blue Moon Take your pick from a dozen ManU songs Hate to say it but PUP Was good to hear We Nottingham Forest..... on Wednesday even it wasn't coming from us All slowish, at least one longish note to latch onto and tend to spread around the grounds. The only fast song I can think of, (which shouldn't have been a fast one anyway but the backboarders made it so) that spread was the Ricki Lambert one, and even that most were just la-la-la-ing to the tune. Don't ask me for suggestions, i haven't got any, but if we want to hear singing around the ground slow with long held note9s) are what's required. Oh, and easy to remember words.

This. This. This. Singing the same song over and over when 6-1 down is not atmosphere it's gallows humour. Atmosphere should encourage the team and intimidate the opposition. Fortress St Mary's ? it's more like a rest home with the inmates having the occasional singalong for old times sake nowadays.
-
Obviously already singing it but if got louder and longer because of their "encouragement". To be fair, different kind of game altogether that one with regard to atmosphere.
-
The Vitesse Arnhem fans loved it. En masse. all turning and pointing to the Itchen or Northam when it was that section's turn to respond. Comes to something when the way fans conduct the home fans singing for them.

Remember the 79 League Cup Final? Left the sunny south coast in the morning wearing just a t-shirt only to arrive at Wembley whilst they were still shoveling snow from the approaches to the turnstiles. Cold? No, well maybe it was, but you just had an extra whisky with your beer and got on with creating an atmosphere. #GoodOldDays

Security at St Mary's in light of the Paris attacks

So you DID phone before hand to check shoes and underwear are ok then? Or did you just assume? -

Think your "logic" is flawed there. The only reason for the situation to have changed is security concerns. Why is a laptop a risk but not a tablet or mobile?. Attempts have been made to blow up planes using explosives in a shoe and in underwear, So by your own "logic" it would be sensible if the club banned those too, no doubt you checked to make sure it was ok to be wearing both of those before you left home for the ground on Saturday, and wouldn't have been surprised if you'd been told barefoot commando was the only way to get in .
