The list was PL appearances, he only breaks the 300 if you count the 2 seasons in the championship. Seems general consensus matches my own, 3 years is a decent stint nowadays, anything longer shows good club loyalty (or no-one else wants them lol )

Once again, with Wanyama's imminent departure, questions are being asked as to why can't we keep our top players? This begs the question in the title, how long do we expect them to stay? . Clearly certain players can be very influential to the team and we'd want to keep them forever. Conversely if we started a season without making any changes over the summer we'd be complaining about no ambition / treading water. As a point of reference the list below are the only players (in order) that have played over 300 times in the PL for just one club. It's a surprisingly short list. Seems nobody stays around anywhere very long. First game was 67/8 with Ted Bates in charge, so McMenemey was first appointment. If I recall correctly he had already been taken on as Ted's assistant months beforehand - with a plan to take over when Ted was good and ready - to ensure continuity. That's a practice I'd like to see us continue today, although I guess only a young up and coming manager would be willing to play that waiting game. As for who I wanted, in a pre-internet, pre-clubcall, pre-pretty much everything era it never even crossed my mind there was a choice.

As much as Pelle, Tadic, Mane and Wanyama have been good players for us, I can't help thinking that if they all played for other teams this season none of them would be top of our HCDAJFU list.

If it's Virgin Media could the deal include our own channel?

Since 1958, when regionalistion of the old 3rd division ended Saints have NEVER been in the lowest division of the Football League . (some teams are still there now )

My thoughts exactly as soon as i saw it. There seems a genuine warmth there. could have been a picture of a mum* and her 3 sons, really sums up the "family club" spirit. *Even though Katerina is possibly the youngest of all of them, I have no idea of her age or even if she's married. She has managed to keep her private life just that.

Not bothered reading the linked article but MotD running order generally always appears to me (without any scientific data to back it up), 1st - match involving highest placed team playing that day based on that mornings table, 2nd -match involving next highest placed team, 3rd - match involving next highest placed team and so on, with the odd late change for exceptional matches such as our 8-0 against Sunderland or the relegation of last place for a boring 0-0 or 1-0 with few incidents (ManUre seemed to be well down the order on several occasions this season). Never once have I considered they show any anti_saints (or anti-anyone come to that) bias.

Keep it simple "Ryan Bertrand" is the same number of syllables as "Champione". See if anyone can come up with something based on that

At the end of the day the answer to those two questions is irrelevant (and not one you're ever going to reach agreement on as there's no definitive way of measuring it). The point many are making is could ours be better. Doesn't really matter how good or bad anyone else's is. Back in the pre-relegation era I used to have ST in the Chapel. Standing joke then was the same as it is now, that the Chapel never made a sound. Anyone at that end at the time knew that was rubbish. There was probably just as many singers in the Chapel as there was in the Northam. Difference was those in the Northam were all squeezed into 3 blocks, those in the Chapel were spread around 8 blocks. The gaps made it much harder for songs to spread. The larger the concentration of singers in one place the louder it's going to be (stating the bleeding obvious there) . ATM if the Northam starts a song it can only spread one way, around the corner into the Kingsland. If singing started in the Chapel it can then spread around both sides of the ground. Simple logic says that's where the "home end" should be but with so many ST holders at both ends I don't know how changing it could be achieved. Genuine question, you mention you've been to many grounds, how many of them have the main singing section (not just a few lads gobbing off ) along side the away fans? And in any that are , does it have any effect on shutting up our away fans?

I've admitted I rarely go to games these days so I'm judging grounds as to how they come across on live tv, and comparing them with how SMS comes across on live tv (and tv often actually sounds better than when I'm actually there, I sit in block2 when I do go) But it also seems many on here are relating "atmosphere" to "how many songs are sung". For me a rendition of "shoot the pompey scum" when the team's backs are against the wall does nothing to help them. For me atmosphere is all about intimidating the opposition team, making sure the ref knows he's wrong for every 50-50 decision that goes against us, and roaring our team on with encouragement as we break forward / take a corner / make yet another defensive clearance as we hang on for 3 points. I get some people not wanting to sing but the kind of atmosphere I'm talking about should be coming for all areas of the ground. That's where - apart from the odd out of the blue performance like the Liverpool game - we seem to be lacking compared with many other grounds IMO.

No, I rarely even go to home games nowadays let alone away games due to a combination of work commitments, cost and general lack of enjoyment due to the lack of atmosphere nowadays. But I watch 1 or 2 live tv games every week and unless by some weird quirk of fate the tv microphones are deliberately muted around the home sections of SMS (and for some even weirder reason turned up a few notches in front of the away section) but not at any other ground in the country then I'd stand by my list. Claiming any ground is silent is simple nonsense. But for every team that you claim only sung about twice when you were there I'd hazard a bet you'd find some of their fans go home saying exactly the same after a trip to SMS .

If you read that last bit in italics as constructive criticism there is still hope. If you automatically sung it in your head to the tune of Cwm Rhondda then you're part of the problem.

I'd offer him a 5 year deal NOW with a get out clause that if either of 2 jobs of his choosing to be named now (I'd also assume the Holland or Barcelona jobs but maybe he has other ideas) become available in that time he can apply with our blessing. Anything else he's ours.
