Even if Portpin "agreed" a League One busting budget (before they knew the Football League conditions for taking over ownerhip of the club, don't forget), why on Earth didn't the highly intelligent Appleton or Allen question this at the time? Rather than lap up a statement from someone they know is adept at moving goalposts, why didn't they go back to him and say "£4m? Ha! Yeah right, nice try Mr Chainrai. No way do we want to start splashing out above average wages on players again. Please come back with a more realistic budget"... I don't know what's more laughable....Chainrai for suggesting a £4m budget in the first place or the likes of Allen and Appleton lapping it up without question...
