  1. @pn_Rory_McKeown: Former Pompey owner Vladimir Antonov re-bailed over alleged fraud at Snoras bank.
  2. The newspaper has now been largely replaced by the smart phone and/or tablet. As this post proves....
  3. "Stuffed"? Remind me how much your average well off 61 year old stands to 'lose' per annum exactly?
  4. trousers

    Festivals

Stevie Wonder to headline Bestival on the Sunday apparently.
  5. No. Of course governments need to take money from citizens to finance the running of the country. I'm simply trying to understand why some people think its best to give said government as much money as possible. The more money governments collect the worse they seem to be at spending it wisely.
  6. What I've never quite understood is why some people think politicians and civil servants are better at spending people's money than the people themselves.
  7. Yeah, but rationale like that doesn't sell newspapers does it?
  8. Keep up pap me old' mucka....that pant wetting montage was posted on page 1 :-)
  9. @pn_neil_allen: There's a new face out there at #Pompey training - along with Gyepes. Outfield player but don't recognise him.
  10. Yeah, but he'll give them back 4p in the £1 when they finally catch up with him. Works every time....
  11. I'm pretty sure Osbourne and Cameron would have foreseen the media reaction to adjusting the top end tax rate to 5% above what labour maintained it at for 10+ years, but an election is still a relatively long way off and the British public have short memories (when it suits them). Yes, it's a gamble but as long as there are a few of the usual political sweeteners nearer the time of the election the papers will start fawning in the direction that best suits their circulation figures.
  12. My figure wasn't just based on "frivolities" though....it was a figure I plucked off the top of my head before Gemmel clarified what was "essential" and "non-essential" for the purposes of this 'survey'. Another factor for me is that I pay school fees for my daughter. Some might class that as a "frivolity" (i.e. it's something I do that is optional)
  13. Isn't the counter argument to that viewpoint equally valid? i.e. when the country's finances are bouyant raise the high end tax rate to get a greater share of the hay that the wealthy are raking in? I think it's known in the trade as "fixing the roof while the sun is shining"....
  14. Agree with that
  15. No further questions your honour
  16. Haven't Celtic made an official statement denying this? (which, of course, is something they would do even if they were thinking about it)
  17. So a Southampton season ticket would be classed as non-essential?
  18. Source?
  19. Is that second bit official yet? Don't recall seeing anything about a date for unlinked sales yet. Might have missed it.
  20. I don't know a huge amount about the Reading side as a whole but, to draw comparison, I assume them losing Roberts is akin to us losing Lambert?
  21. Gordon Brown was quite adept at it too :-)
  22. Good question. Would have to go away and number crunch for a while to come up with an accurate figure. Also, what do you count as "essential" outgoings? Would something like an optional critical illness insurance policy count as "essential" for example? Things like petrol fall in both the essential and non-essential camp. Anyway, I'm possibly thinking too hard about it so, my extremely rough top of head guess would be somewhere between £1k - £2k per month on "lifestyle" expenditure. (for a family of four).
  23. Go for it.... :-) Report back soon with screen shots of the exchange of words.....
