The Spending Review (tackling the Socialists debt mountain)
trousers replied to dune's topic in The Lounge
The same core voters who will be shafted for said 4 years to clear up Labour's "spend and borrow without thinking about the long term consequences". I think in 4 years time a tax cut or two will have been well deserved by those on modest incomes. -
Question: do I need to pay line rental if I only use the line for broadband? In other words, given I use my landline very little, I don't need the phone anymore, just Internet. So, can I get a package that excludes landline telephone rental? Cheers

I asked my question first. You go first with the answer to mine then I'll answer yours. ;-) -

Genuine question: what skills do the heads of britain's blue chip companies lack which are required for running an economy? As I say, not a wind up question. -

How long does it take to build an aircraft carrier compared to the aircraft one places on it? (serious question. If, say, it takes 10 years to build the carrier but only 5 to build the aircraft then maybe we buy the aircraft a bit later when the money situation is better?)

Can't we just pretend to have one? You know, like those false alarm boxes on houses? How would Iran etc know whether we actually have one or not? As long as we tell them we've got a big weapon then they will be none the wiser. We could even get the Americans to print a false receipt in case they ask to see proof of purchase. -
'whooosh' count on this thread thus far = 4

You gotta love those really witty facebook groups... I trust there's an equally amusing "we hate the ConDems" page too? ;-)

My underpants. I had pledged not to change them until we'd gone 5 games on the trot unbeaten.

Seems like a reasonable article to me. Most Saints fans will I'm sure take it with a pinch of salt and I can't see anything wrong with a local paper re-reporting news and/or speculation from a national paper. Look at it another way......There is a train of thought that says the more speculation there is the better, because (a) it will inflate the 'bid price' and (b) it is likely to strengthen Cortese's resolve to keep hold of him (if indeed he wants to)

Devil's advocate alert.... Why do we need a forum for the customers of a private company....?

I'm taking the missus to Bath for our wedding anniversary in November. Hotel booked, dinner options shortlisted and usual tourist traps on the radar (Roman stuff). Funny play-on-words with the word 'Bath' aside, any recommendations for some not so obvious attractions? (within walking distance of the city centre)? cheers

The clues and questions are there.... - billionaire president in need of popularity boost. (and, coincidently a week before a planned 'promo' trip to Europe) - miners looking remarkably well upon emerging - how did the capsule negotiate the existing tunnels and caverns it supposedly drilled through? The shaft was drilled at an angle, thus gravity would have swung the base away from the next opening - ironically, in an attempt to avoid conspiracy theories, dozens of cameras were used to capture 'every' moment. The theory being: "the more we show the more people will believe it". And, perhaps they simply forgot to put a camera in one of the aforementioned existing accessible tunnels half way down so we could see the gravity defying capsule passing through? - the release date was purposely timed so that it coincided with Lady Thatcher's 85th Birthday as a token of revenge for her treatment of Arthur Scargill and his fellow miners Not that I believe in any of this twaddle of course.

The miners are actually only 20 feet below the ground and for the last 69 days have been on a film set to give the impression of being trapped underground. It was all set up by the Chilean government to boost their popularity.

Was just about to recommend the same part of London. Borough Market is a must on a friday or a Saturday. Don't forget to pop into the Market Porter for one of a dozen real ales. Yum.

Wednesday afternoons off?! No wonder higher education costs so much! ;-)

How will that work? Won't all students be hard at work in their respective universities on a Wednesday.....?

What time? Used to be 12pm didn't it? Edit: just read the time of the first post. Doh....

Possibly a "whooosh" moment coming up but I assume he meant "needed by the public" rather than "needed by the state" Although ultimately the same difference I guess..... Possibly.
