My take on it is the club were happy to have him for one more year because we didn't get promoted, the implication being that we wouldn't have exercised the contract extension has we been promoted. Ergo, now getting him to sign anything longer than a one year contract would somewhat contradict that stance... That said, if we were to offer him a 2 - 3 year contract and were confident we could get our money back by selling him next summer, if we were to be promoted, then nothing to lose I guess...

To me, it seems bizarre that there's not been a whiff of news from either within the FA or via journalists peering in. Why is it seemingly beyond the bounds of possibility that the FA can't come up with an interim update along the lines of: "The investigation into the conduct of Southampton FC staff formally began on <insert date>. The investigatory panel, consisting of <insert names>, are targeting <insert date> to conclude their investigations. Instead... Nothing... Not a sausage... Whilst the EFL investigation was a bumbling circus, at least they were relatively transparent with what was occurring and when...
