How does a 'socialist' football club such as Pompey square the moral circle of having a zero hours contract exploiting company as a kit supplier?

Can one of the mods please add an apostrophe to the thread title. It's not helping with my OCD treatment.

What I don't understand (amongst many other things....) is how this ruse will succeed. The article highlights: "The Employment Allowance legislation makes it clear that artificially created companies cannot claim the allowance." And also says: "The allowance enables companies to claim £2,000 off their annual employers' National Insurance bill and was meant to encourage small businesses to take on more workers." So, surely all HMRC have to do is decline the claim if it comes from an "artificially created company". In other words, what's stopping HMRC nipping this in the bud at source rather than, as the article goes on to say, go through a funds recovery process which may not be successful? Just don't pay the allowance that is claimed in the first place, surely?

As you say, age is a somewhat arbitrary cut off. For every 'mature enough' 16 year old there'll be an immature 19 year old. Maybe passing an IQ test would be a better measure of people's ability to vote...?

You could flip that question around as there's plenty of things that 16 year olds aren't considered adult enough to do... marry (without parental consent), join the armed forces (without parental consent), buy alcohol, buy cigarettes, donate blood, drive, 'adult' gambling, etc...
