1. Everyone knows it will be roughly £400. Just put it aside. It's not hard.
2. Sum that up in a Venn diagram like he asked.
3. Ajax friendly was 18th July so relatively early and 3 weeks before first league game on August 8th against Millwall. Played Hearts (25th July) and QPR (1st August) afterwards in friendlies.
4. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2053953,00.html Should be fun. Doesn't say it is the Ted Bates Trophy match, so hopefully a big Premiership team or European club will still be coming to St Mary's to start the 125th year celebrations.
5. Socks in photograph of 1885 team aren't white and probably black or red.
6. It is three days old and was the main story about Saints in the Southampton section of the BBC website. You can be pretty confident that stories like that find their way onto here in minutes, rather than three days. (He is a central midfielder not a defender btw)
7. Anyone that thinks Beattie would come to League One to be backup to Rickie Lambert is clearly insane!
8. Have you not seen how empty corporate has been for the last 5 years since the club left the Premiership? Of course they won't do any of what you suggest. As for corporate in the Kingsland, it is miles from any of the facilities required and would require a walk to the Itchen.
9. They were likely waiting for the summer to minimise impact to training and based on that quote I guess they will start soon. Videos of training on Saints Player show nothing had been done it terms of removing the existing buildings by the end of the season.
10. Beers + Fags = Lung and liver disease and premature death (and others passively inhaling) FACT
11. How do you know they aren't?
12. Pardew joins Saints 17th July 2009 22 days later.... First game of the season versus Millwall 8th August 2009 and Pardew was very much in charge and had by that point signed Dan Harding and also been in charge of friendlies against Hearts and QPR. I think you are confusing the Millwall game with the Ajax friendly on the 18th July (day after Pardew took charge) that Henderson was in charge. 22 days is of course not anywhere near a full preseason and is why I put Wotte/Pardew Summer 09.
13. And I was saying after Seaborne, Fonte and Martin signed Perry was only was needed for cup games due to players being cup tied. Next season Fonte and Seaborne won't be cup tied and you have Jaidi and Martin as well. How often do you think 5th and 6th choice centre backs play? You are setting your sights too low alpine. Saints only intend to be in this league one more year and Perry isn't good enough to play in the Championship in 2011/12 and are looking for players that can progress with them upwards through the leagues.
14. Since Ian Branfoot left 16 years ago in 1994, Saints have only had four occasions where the same manager has been in charge for consecutive pre seasons. Alan Ball - Summer 94 Dave Merrington - Summer 95 Graeme Souness - Summer 96 Dave Jones - Summer 97 One Summer 98 Two Summer 99 (Jones left in Jan 00) Glenn Hoddle - Summer 00 Stuart Gray - Summer 01 Gordon Strachan - Summer 02 Three Summer 03 (Strachan left in Feb 04) Steve Wigley - No pre seasons Paul Sturrock - Summer 04 Steve Wigley - No pre seasons Harry Redknapp - Summer 05 George Burley - Summer 06 Four Summer 07 (Burley left in Jan 07) John Gorman - No pre seasons Nigel Pearson - No pre seasons Jan Poortvliet - Summer 08 Mark Wotte/Alan Pardew - Summer 09 Five Summer 10 In all that time Man Utd have had one manager with 15 consecutive pre seasons and you could even take it back to 1986. Quite a telling record. Pardew only had 4 weeks of pre Season for the 09/10 season but as he now has the whole summer 2010, some stability is coming that has been lacking in the last 16 years
15. No, of course not! Why do you think it would?
16. ummm.... Chris Perry didn't play a league game in 2010! The only games he played in were cup games when Seaborne and Fonte were cup tied. Seaborne and Fonte won't be cup tied next season. Wayne Thomas played in only 5 League games in 2010 (4 since Fonte and Seaborne signed). These games at right back due to injuries to Murty & Otsemobor and were when Aaron Martin went to Salisbury on loan. Maybe Pardew doesn't plan to loan Martin again.
17. Exactly. Saints have Fonte, Jaidi, Seaborne and Martin. Perry and Thomas would be 5th and 6th. An expensive option to keep them and not even have them on the bench! If they stayed they wouldn't get a game. Their wages better used elsewhere.
18. Perry and Thomas are 5th and 6th choice centre backs. How often do you think 5th and 6th choice will be used next season? I'd wager not at all!. Is it worth paying them thousands to not even sit on the bench or is is not better to use the money saved from their wages elsewhere? James is a central midfielder. He is extremely average and most likely will end up at another League One side. Saints intend to be a Championship side in 12 months and will be looking for players that can play at that level to compete with Hammond/Schneiderlin. No point James not even making the bench at Saints if more central midfielders are brought this summer. Some people in this thread are setting their expectations too low and showing too much sentiment and not enough ambition!
19. Use the Bargate silhouette from the council logo.
20. Why have you quoted me saying something I didn't say?
21. Only one of the players released was in the starting 11 - Otsemobor. How does that require gelling time? All the rest were basically the deadwood of the squad. Perry and Thomas would have been 5th and 6th choice centre backs on high wages so them leaving has freed up wages to be used elsewhere. Calderon is coming in at right back, so no need for James/Thomas there and likely they'd be bringing in more cover in central midfield.
22. You'll bankrupt yourself!
23. A retained list is for those coming to the end of a contract and offered a new one. That doesn't apply to the players you mention.
24. You do realise Saints had 40 players over the age of 19 don't you? Losing 13 players now still leaves them with a huge squad even if they were a Premiership side let alone in League One!
25. Lallana and Puncheon will be first choice out wide again next season. Both are hardly slow! I also wouldn't rule out a return for Antonio (less chance with Papa Waigo).
