Why does that "reassure you"? You were badly wrong about the 2011/12 season and so was anyone on the first page that agreed with you! What about when Saints won 6 of their opening 7 league games of the 2011/12 season? Or being in the top 2 for the entire 2011/12 Championship season as a newly promoted club and being promoted to the Premier League despite only signing Fox, De Ridder and Cork in the summer?

SFC still run like a crappy seaside B & B
Matthew Le God replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
So you say there is no evidence of Saints doing anything on the transfer front. Then when someone mentions we've been linked to numerous players you claim it is "journalists clutching at straws". Do you have any evidence to back up such a claim? You are just twisting everything to suit your negative agenda! Cheer up Alpine ffs! 4 years ago we were on -10 points and 68th in the English football pyramid. The owners/Cortese clearly know what they are doing. -
Can Southampton break the top four next season?

Have you forgotten that Ramirez played an important role in a number of games helping us gain points? He really didn't do as badly as lots on here make out. I still maintain he is our best player. -

Why do you disagree with that? Last time I checked Saints were in the Premier League for 2013/14 and Boruc, Clyne, Yoshida, Rodriguez, Davis and Ramirez all played a big part in that. Gazzaniga, Mayuka and Forren less so, but they are all young and can play a role in future seasons. So yes, objective achieved! -

We signed 8 players last summer and as a newly promoted club those 8 players (including Ramirez) helped Saints finish 14th and be part of the most lucrative domestic season in world football in 2013/14 = a successful summer 2012 transfer window with the objective achieved. -

No they aren't! I asked you a number of questions, that isn't subjective I wanted an answer from you. Just respond to every point and question I posed like I did for you. You said to Colinjb that you want a discussion, then when someone does try to counter you refuse to back up your points. -

I addressed all your points and you ignored my post! I can see why others might not bother if you won't bother responding to the counters to your argument. -

Or a mod could close it and remove Alpine's thread starting rights. -

Care to answer all my questions and points in post #29 please Mr Alpine? -

You say that to dismiss adriansfc's point as if it isn't valid. It is valid, you don't know what the club is doing behind closed doors, to assume they are doing nothing on the transfer front is a bizarre logical step to take and one you are rightly ridiculed for. -

How do you know what they are doing behind closed doors? Just because they don't announced every last detail of summer activity it is a bizarre step to assume they are doing nothing. Does it really matter? Adidas have said there'll be news about it in June, it'll be on sale in July at the latest. Where is the issue? What "indicators" are you expecting? The club would be daft to announce in detail their summer transfer strategy to the world. Do you honestly think that because we haven't announced a deal by the 11th June nothing is going on behind the scenes. Come on Alpine, can you not see why you'd be ridiculed for such a viewpoint. So what? Most of them were deadwood caused by the club progressing quickly through the leagues. Which of them are you suggesting we should have kept? We still have other under contract that are also below the quality we need to be a top half Premier League side. Chaplow, Sharp, Hammond, De Ridder, Tadanari Lee etc and I expect the club to try and sell/loan them out this season. Not sure why this is relevant. As usual Alpine you have had a rant about numerous things that have little foundation. You say it is run "like a crappy seaside B&B", yet under the current ownership we have seen the club rise from 68th in England to 14th in England in 4 years! I don't think I've ever seen a post from you that has had a positive slant towards the club! Why is that? -

Really? That was in 2007!

Lots of conflicting sources for this. This article on the Premier League website says... http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/news/news/2013-14/jun/summer-transfers-2013-ins-and-outs.html BUT... The actual rules state on page 180 of the Premier League rulebook... http://www.premierleague.com/content/dam/premierleague/site-content/News/publications/handbooks/premier-league-handbook-2012-2013.pdf

What would Adidas have to do to a red and white striped shirt for it to be a "Southampton kit" and not "Stoke kit"? Putting a Southampton badge on it is about it.

My point was that even though it was the last game of season it still had something significant riding on it. Not that it was the only game we played with something significant riding on it.

Hard to take Simon Jones seriously as a journalist when he spells Seaborne incorrectly as Seabourne.

I thought Di Canio left Swindon?

Concerning "half our catchment area is in the sea", that can apply to a large number of English clubs. Saints are hardly unique for that.

In action for Saints...

I was actually told about this in January by the Chelsea researcher for Football Manager who has very good connections, but forgot to put it on here. I was ITK again, but let it pass me by!
