You so sometimes wonder what it is all about these days, more big business than sport. Just so that people on the other side of the world can jump up and down with excitement and identify with 'their" team (one of the big four) sweeping all before them. The predictions bit is the easy part these days. Most people on here have got a pretty good idea of how the final table will look come next March, the only excitement maybe someone like Wham struggling.

I wonder what Scousehampton got in the way of a transfer fee from him? Knowing them they probably made a profit, got the £7m we should have got for him last year.

Indeed, if Carlsberg did Premier Leagues it would be Southampton as Champions and Liverpool, Tottenham and Wham for relegation(not really bothered which of the three to be bottom) Unfortunately I think it will be Watford, Bournemouth and Leicester for the drop, with Middlesbrough, Burnley( if they keep hold of the manager) and Forest promoted.

I would have thought there is still a sizeable surplus from last seasons trading in the transfer market.......

Look at the price Liverpool held out for for Sterling. I would say about double what he is worth. At that rate we should have got £60m for Schneiderlin or Shaw.......

How desperate are we?

You would think agreeing compensation in this case would be down to the lawyers and financial gurus.......

At least will then get nearly 14m in transfer fee + the original £1.5 -

But if Southampton have a contract saying we have an option to buy at last years value, why should we pay more if we have exercised our option to buy. With millions of pounds involved, lawyers are bound to be all over it at every stage. It may well be that the players registration automatically passed to Southampton if AM failed to buy out the buy back clause. Only problem Saints do not have a contract with TA.

If that was true, Liverpool would simply negotiate the transfer fee down!

The £12.5m doesn't seem to compare well with the £11m being bandied about as the fee to Toby. If it works out we get £12.5m for Clyne and get Toby for £11m, that would be good business in my book.

Surely Athletico have already bought out Saints option to buy, so now it's a level playing field. Apart from what some are saying that Southampton will get a percentage of any transfer fee, regardless of who the buyer is including Saints.

I really don't get the idea that rebuilding St Mary's one side at a time, would cost more than developing a brand new stadium on a green field site. A recent example of a fairly new stadium is the Amex. I think the Amex cost around £100m to build, and that stadium is smaller than SMS......

I don't think it makes any difference who the bid comes from (including Southampton). If that story about the percentage is true, it just means a percentage comes back to Southampton............

I remember worrying after the semi final draw we might have to play poopey in the final that year!

It must really put doubt in the mind of players like Schneiderlin and Clyne if players like Bertrand and Toby want to stay at Southampton. They know they could be pipped at the post for Champions League football at Liverpool and Spurs by Saints......
