Morgan Schneiderlin comments in 'France Football' magazine
VectisSaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
And people say that the new board are not out of touch. I really don't believe that anyone would have considered burning down the stadium, but apparently the bosses thought so. -
We also haven't lost to Stoke since promotion (in the league) P 4 D 4.

Pelle plays well when Long plays.

Morgan? Did Shane Long get a call?

Saints captain José Fonte called up by Portugal!
VectisSaint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
So just Jack Cork to go now (OK I guess JWP as well although he is clearly part of the England setup already). Training at St Mary's will be interesting this week, Cork and Bertrand (who has played for England) playing keepy-uppy. -
Somewhere else. Read the comments on the tweet, I wouldn't know Spuds training ground from a waste recycling centre, but others who saw it clearly were more informed.
-
Except it wasn't Spuds training ground.

Was it luck? There was a reason why Koeman made himself available. I don't pretend to be ITK, but suspect he had been sounded out already, not just by us, and was determined to make himslef available for a new challenge at a higher level than his much-loved Feyenoord.

Nando Shaw is only an u21 player :-) Think Bertrand could be ahead of Mr Blobby.

Jose Fonte in new Portugal coach's thoughts - Gets first Call Up!

He's officially listed as 6' 2''. If his eyes are blue we could use the Jim Steele song. -

Perhaps one of Unbelievable school playground posters could dig the names out and shame them on here. Well done Jose, our best CB last season (and for previous seasons as well). Made Lovren look good at times, and helped us get silly money for headless one so that we could bring in better (Toby and maybe Florin). If I ever said anything negative about you then I was probably under the influence or something. -
The point is that a lot of what is written is based on what people saw last season, and they haven't noticed that things have changed significantly since then. Last season we regularly had 3 or 4 academy players in the 1st XI, plus one or two more on the bench (Lallana, Shaw, JWP & Chambers, Gallagher as well at times, but lets say 3 as a rough guide). Last Saturday we had none on the pitch until Targett came on as sub near the end. People don't seem to see that the trend of having a large number of Academy products in the 1st team squad has changed, and base all their analysis and reporting on old data. I'm not saying anything is badly broken since last season, but just be aware, the plaudits being thrown at the Club are out of date and do not necessarily reflect the here and now.

No, he was nearing 19 when he signed for us. You're getting confused with home-grown status.

They also need to abandon the idea that teams knocked out of the CL go into the last 32 knock-out stages. Europa League teams have to battle through interminable games to reach the last 32 then often get knocked out by a CL team.
-
Interesting article, however timing wise it is ironic that it comes just after we played a league match with no academy graduates in the first team. I know Targett, Reed and McCarthy were on the bench and of course JWP is injured. Not saying anything should be read into this, but its perhaps significant and an indication that there is not such a large pool of academy players currently in the queue.

United to sign Matt Radcliffe following Tottenham match
VectisSaint replied to Saint86's topic in The Saints
You mean he comes from Manchester and wants to work for Man Utd. Usually only Londoners are that way inclined. I would have thought his head would have been at the Etihad if he's a Manc. -
Is that a question? If I assume that your statement should in fact be a question, indicated by the addition of the correct terminating punctuation mark, then my response would be "yes" because I cocked up.
-
Jack Cork still not getting a look in.
-
Do you mean elligible? I think his reading skills and writing are probably not an issue Shame Gaston is barred from playing against us, would have made our lives a little easier, but he would probably have been injured anyway.

Southampton Partnership With Servette Could Be On Cards

Careful. If this works out in 10 years time one of the unbelievable school playground numpties on here will dig out this post and ridicule you for ridiculing the idea. -

I think you missed the point though. We wouldn't be sending players that already have work permits to Switzerland. The suggestion was we could bring in players from outside the EU to help get work permits in UK. But for me that doesn't really make sense given that Switzerland is not in the EU. Still think our only link with Servette must be through Chivers. -

Do EU work permits apply in Switzerland. I know Switzerland has some bilateral treaties with the EU, but not sure if someone working in Switzerland would be granted a WP in the UK as a result. Probably not the most simple, straightforward option to be honest, almost any other country in Europe would be more obvious. -
Its still a dump, but called IKEA these days.
